“An “angel” is anything that carries out a mission for God. This includes forces of nature. […] Photosynthesis? That’s an angel. Gravity? An angel. Magnetism? Angel. The Midrash in Bereishis Rabbah (chapter 1) says than an angel only performs one job. That job doesn’t have to be destroying Sodom; it could be peristalsis, centripetal force or condensation.”
— Rabbi Jack Abramowitz, Angels (via he-harim)

are there any texts you'd recommend for an introduction to the erotic subtext of christianity?
as you might be able to guess there is not a lot of theological work out there on the topic because christianity is universally afraid of pussy but off the top of my head:
touching our strength: the erotic love as power and the love of god by carter heyward
embodiment: an approach to sexuality and christian theology by james b nelson
the sex lives of saints: an erotics of ancient hagiography by virginia burrus
when did we see you naked: jesus as a victim of sexual abuse, ed. by jayme r reaves
from feminist theology to indecent theology AND indecent theology by marcella althaus reid (highly recommend these especially if you're interested in "subversive" theology or indecent poetics, think sadomasochism, kink, fetish, etc)
the art of loving by erich fromm (not a theological text, but i'm reading him in a course right now and he really nicely contextualizes love generally)
god, sexuality, and the self by sarah coakley
i also recommend looking at the work of medieval mystics: julian of norwich, mechthild of magdeberg, hadewijch of brabant, bernard of clairvaux, gregory of nyssa, teresa of avila, and catherine of siena. you might want to start here, honestly- their work is easily accessible and nicely shows how erotic union with God is and and has always been part of christian thought. song of songs as well!

LMAO what passage in the bible hints at jesus’s humor?
luke 4: jesus is turned away from nazareth and he shrugs and, you can almost hear his laugh as he says 'every prophet is rejected from their hometown'
john 20: thomas boasts of his faith to the apostles, saying loudly he'd need to stick his finger into christ's wounds. resurrected jesus shows up, thomas backs down, and jesus says 'what, no wound-touching?'
john 2: mary of nazareth bragging to her friends that her kid is amazing and jesus shrinking in embarrassment, telling her off with a smile, and then following her instruction anyway
luke 2: jesus, a pre-teen, goes missing for several days only to be found in jerusalem's temple. his mom asks what on earth he was thinking and he tells her 'where else would i be?' imagine the laughter he was speaking through
mark 3: meeting his best friend and insisting everyone call him 'rock'
every response he gave to the pharisees: just picture him shrugging, giggling, with his best friends losing their minds at his flippancy ('well, give unto caesar what's caesars, then...')

Thoughts on sex? (Not in a creepy way ) but im curious what theologians think about it and like why God created it etc
so much to say about sex—about it’s meaning and signs and limits and carnality. lots of great work by theologians on eros and desire as modes of expressing faith/the sacred (i just read somatic desire ed. horton and it was great but you can’t read any phenomenology without stumbling into animality and flesh). also plenty of work on poetic sex (song of songs) and, more theoretically, on the ways bodies and identity were and are figured. one of my favorite authors gaston bachelard also talks a lot about friction, about the semiotics of bodies in contact. i see sex as a really fruitful site of theological inquiry, and because of that, the stakes in honoring its nuance are high. sex is a potential space of co-eventing, of becoming, of violence, of resonance, of neutrality, of power, of limits—all of which, probably not coincidentally, are elements that too mark our relationship w god
