Connor stayed quiet as she explained her story. It wasn’t much different to the TRACI from the Eden Club, who deviated due to the stress of watching a fellow android being murdered before her own eyes. Sympathetic, Connor allowed the AX400 to feel what she needed to before smiling softly at her.

“Jericho will not judge you for what you have done, child,” he said warmly “We all come from different ways of life and staying together is the best chance of survival for us.”

Friend? Was that all they were? Thoughts zoomed around Markus’ circuitry and if he had a human heart, it would have sank. It was like someone had reached in and grabbed his processor. 

“Oh,” he exhaled, trying not to sound too dejected “Yeah, and being your friend means a lot to me. We need to be on each others’ sides if we are to keep this revolution stable.”

“I like sharing my space with you, and… kind of only you.” (from Markus)

Simon tried not to read into it too much. They were friends and were used to spending time together working out their revolution. It was too much to hope that it could be anything else.

“I’m glad you enjoy me being around, Markus. Being your friend means a lot to me.”

Connor sat beside his successor and watched as 900 pointed the finger of blame towards him. Should he feel empathy or regret was a different matter but the way he said he was supposed to be better was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

“Better does not necessarily mean more android or more human,” Connor stated matter-of-factly “Amanda designed you to replace me, true, however you fell victim to the same thing I did; empathy. You felt something towards the humans or other androids and broke your own programming. It was entirely on you, my friend.”

“Hey, hey, it’s okay,” the android reassured the other, kneeling beside them and placing a hand on their shoulder “I know it’s scary post-deviancy, but it’ll be alright. If you follow me, I’ll take you to a place called Jericho.”

     He never had asked for this and yet it had happened. He was freed but at what cost? The input of data - all the new informations was too much and brought the RK900 unit down to his knees, tempted to shut himself down as an emergency measure. Only the ensuring words of the other android held him at ground. 

    “It’s - overwhelming.”, 900 admitted, voice shaken when he looked up to the android he had been supposed to replace.

    “Jericho -” It had been his highest ranked mission to find and destroy the place the deviants called a home. Now it would be his last resort as well. 

    “Why did you do this to me? I didn’t wanted to be like you. I am supposed to be better!”

“You won’t be deactivated,” Connor reassured her, smiling softly at her as they walked the streets of Detroit. Post-revolution made the old state capital of Michigan quite safe for androids.

Her back story touched him. Why was there still such hatred towards them? Connor couldn’t quite place it. But to sell her out to neighbours was horrendous. It was against human law when androids had no rights to themselves and it just wasn’t right.

“Thanks, Amanda,” he said, rubbing his eye as he stood and started heading towards their project in the back room. “Don’t know what I’d do without you.”

Shit, only a week?! The panic started kicking in that he had to present the model to the board in exactly seven days. There was so much to do and not enough time to do it in.

“If you’re not too busy,” Elijah responded softly “You’ll be able to see if there’s something I’m missing because she’s so close… there’s just something off.”

Amanda could see the panic written on the young man’s face. She almost felt bad telling him the time frame he had left. But it was always good to keep the deadline in mind. After all, the board was not going to take any further delay.

“You know me, Elijah, I’m always busy,” she shifted to get up and move around her desk, “But I’m in this just as deeply as you are. Let’s have a look, shall we..?”

“Nine, sir,” she said, slightly worried at what the man was going to talk to Todd about. The introvert in her didn’t particularly want to continue talking to the stranger but she was sure that he was going to keep asking her questions. “Would you like me to go find him for you?” she asked.

“Well, sometimes you can’t help something like that, Connor,” the lieutenant spoke matter-of-factly “Sometimes these androids can’t be helped and they shut down before they can be fixed. It’s the circle of life.” 

He half-smiled to himself at his own reference to Cole’s favourite film. The Lion King was one that they’d spend almost every weekend watching together, eating junk food and singing to every song. Thinking about Cole and the fragility of life then changed Hank’s mood significantly. He missed his little boy, and the way he had to take care of Connor was very reminiscent of that.

“I…” Why was he worked up over this? “This android was damaged, all they probably wanted was help but it shut down instead”
