The funniest thing you can add to any piece of media is a boy detective. Breaking Bad needed a 13 year old child who goes around looking for clues to the caper and whatnot.

yes absolutely!! it drives me crazy when people generalize all of forensic science as being fake because they don’t understand that it’s made up of a million different fields with varying degrees of reliability and issues. i knew what you were trying to say i was just yapping because i have a lot to say about forensics
Things that work in fiction but not real life
torture getting reliable information out of people
knocking someone out to harmlessly incapacitate them for like an hour
jumping into water from staggering heights and surviving the fall completely intact
calling the police to deescalate a situation
rafting your way off a desert island
correctly profiling total strangers based on vibes
effectively operating every computer by typing and nothing else
ripping an IV out of your arm without consequences

bitemark analysis is also, i would argue, not “a full field of study” in forensics. the field of study would be forensic odontology, which has multiple different applications (such as disaster (or non-disaster) victim identification and age estimation) that ARE commonly used and backed by studies & data. bitemark analysis is just one concentration in odontology that is generally no longer seen as reliable.
i don’t think bitemarks really have a chance to develop into a widely applied reliable method anyways, they’re far less unique than fingerprints, and fingerprinting is already not as accurate as people think. if someone has a very unique dental pattern then a bitemark might be able to include/exclude suspects but i think in general they will continue to only be used as evidence of abuse occurring.

#again don’t mind me rambling about forensics#i’ve only taken one class on forensic odont so don’t take me as the arbiter of bitemarks#but my professor specialized in it and she was not very confident in the use of bitemarks period#their time has come and gone#but odont can be super helpful in other ways!!

i would also like to add that forensic anthropology (estimating sex/stature/age/ancestry based on skeletal elements) is generally real and pretty accurate if you are a trained professional and know how to apply the methods correctly
the problem with forensics (even the real parts!) is that tv shows just make up a bunch of shit and have no idea what’s real and what’s pseudoscience and then jurors/prosecutors/general society roll with it because people assume tv is real life. i even saw OSU promoting their new forensic anthropology program by saying something like “have you ever wanted to be in criminal minds? bones?”. OSU!!! forensics programs should be promptly teaching undergrads that their career will NOT be like CSI, because that isn’t how real life works. mine did.
forensic science will never get away from the association with profiling/bloodspatter/polygraphs/any fake thing that actual science doesn’t accept until cop shows stop misrepresenting it to look cool. but i doubt that will ever happen

#sorry to rant on your reblog#i have a deep hatred for the way forensics is portrayed on television#especially polygraphs and profiling

i want to reiterate i don't think israeli hostages have had the time of their lives and i don't think this ordeal was fun or easy for them but looking at how israeli hostages have been released by hamas and how palestinian hostages have been released by israel is a really dark-sided reality check on just how low the standards for israel have been to meet a basic threshold for humanity and yet it still failed

i watched the livestream of trump signing executive orders and answering questions from the press. here are some of the big ones + other things mentioned today:
trump declared a national emergency at the southern border + is getting the US military more involved in stopping "invasions including mass migration"
no one can declare asylum in the US
all existing appointments for people wanting to legally become US citizens are canceled
birthright citizenship (aka the 14th amendment) is now gone
ICE sweeps beginning "soon," not specifying when (though there are rumors it's starting tomorrow in sanctuary cities such as chicago)
mexican cartels are now designated "foreign terrorist organizations" and trump is not opposed to US troops entering mexico to eliminate them
he restored the death penalty for "crimes committed by illegal aliens"
biden had signed an executive order attempting to stop cops from using chokeholds or doing no-knock warrants. trump just revoked that order
25% tariffs on canada and mexico begin on feb 1 2025 — expect a lot of produce imported from mexico to get more expensive soon
tariffs on china will begin soon, not specified when
trump said he intends to take back the panama canal, did not specify when or how
january 6 insurrectionists are to be immediately released/pardoned
he pardoned the leader of the proud boys
tiktok has a 90 day extension, during which the US gov will try to buy 50% of tiktok. trump said he no longer cares that china is "spying on our young people," but he wants to buy half of tiktok so the US government "can police it a little bit, or a lot." if tiktok will not sell, it will be banned in the US again.
he claims the people of greenland want to become part of the US
he says the gulf of mexico is now to be called the "gulf of america" + denali is now to be called "mount mckinley"
alaska is to be mined and become the US' main source for fossil fuels
the green new deal and "electric vehicle" (green energy) mandates are over
the US has withdrawn from the paris climate agreement
the US has withdrawn from the world health organization
reproductiverights.gov is already gone
the US now "only recognizes two genders, male and female"
trans women prisoners are to be housed in male prisons; gender affirming care for prisoners is gone
self-identification for gender on passports, government IDs, and social security cards is gone
all federal employees are required to work in the office five days a week, no more working from home
trump said the US is going to "pursue our manifest destiny into the stars" and plant a US flag on mars
sources on what executive orders were signed: one two three
and lastly, some things that happened during the inauguration:
the pastor who blessed the inauguration during the swearing in ceremony has already announced a new meme coin/cryptocurrency
trump did not put his hand on the bible + there are rumors the pope is going to say trump is the antichrist
the wealthiest people on the planet — the CEOs of twitter/tesla, amazon, google, meta, and even the CEO of tiktok — who own almost all communication platforms used by westerners — stood directly behind trump as he was sworn in
elon musk, the wealthiest person alive, who has been given his own vaguely-defined US government agency, did a nazi salute on stage at the presidential podium. neo-nazis are already celebrating

If there's sexual abuse subtext no there isn't, if there's allusion to sexual abuse you're ruining it for everyone else by talking about it, if there's a metaphor for sexual abuse you're reading too far into it and it's actually a metaphor for anything more palatable, and if there's on-screen sexual abuse? Well that's exploitative torture porn, of course.
