Shang Qinghua: Sure, he owes me a favor anyway

Liu Qingge: How does someone like you get a demon lord to owe you a favor?

Shang Qinghua: I tell him what Shen Qingqiu likes in bed

One of the reasons that an on-again-off-again relationship feels so natural for qijiu is that SJ cannot stand the idea of being the one most invested in the relationship, and yet he always feels like he is.

To be the one who loves and cares more is a massive vulnerability that SJ is terrified of. SJ doesn’t want to give anyone that kind of power over him, even or especially Qi-ge, who has already betrayed his trust before. As soon as SJ feels like he’s once again getting in too deep or has revealed too much of himself, he has to leave, disappearing from YQY’s life until he once more trusts himself to don the mask, or until the wanting gets so unbearable that he convinces himself he can.

And YQY’s part, he is certain he SJ to completely in a way he does not deserve to. He is afraid of stifling SJ, or crossing an unspoken line, and losing the man forever. He too holds himself at a distance because he is sure he loves too much, but he’s not afraid of burning up in that fire, only of scorching SJ should it become uncontrollable.

The longer they’re together, the more YQY pulls back because he is so afraid to make a mistake, and SJ sees YQY creeping away from him once more and wants to push but he can’t so he gets angrier about every little inconsequential thing, convincing YQY he’s done everything wrong and ruined things again, until SJ once again dumps YQY for the tiny grievance that came up right as SJ reached his breaking point, and both of them leave certain that the other never loved them that much, or at least that the other could never match the force of their own love. SJ tells himself he’ll never go back. YQY already knows he won’t be able to turn SJ down when he does.

So. AU when Shen Yuan transmigrates early, as an NPC and ends up as a disciple of the same generation as the PIDW peak lords… on Qing Jing. So of course, he’s been dreading the day when Shen Qingqiu shows up. Except… he doesn’t?

There’s Shen-shidi of course, but Shen Yuan is sure he can’t be Shen Qingqiu! He was so skinny when he joined the sect that Shen Yuan was really worried for his health! He gets embarrassed when accepting hugs! He even got bullied by some of the other disciples until Shen Yuan put a stop to it! No, Shen Jiu can’t possibly be Shen Qingqiu, it doesn’t make any sense. After all if he assumed anyone named ‘Shen’ was a candidate—

Shen Yuan considers it. Is it possible that he’s actually transmigrated as Shen Qingqiu and never realised it? He never had a system to tell him anything, after all. The original goods probably figured out whatever horrible thing Yue Qingyuan did to Shen Jiu that he keeps apologising for and used it to blackmail him!

(Shen Yuan doesn’t want to think what might have happened to Shen Jiu in PIDW if his theory is correct).

Give me Shen Twins with a complicated relationship.

I wanna see Shen Twins that viscerally cannot stand the way that the other copes with the bad things that've happened to them.

Give me SY who pleads with SJ to "just behave" while cleaning his wounds because he's scared his brother is going to get into bigger trouble than they can handle. Because he can't understand SJ's refusal to make himself smaller, can't understand why his brother feels the need to fight the world even at the expense of his own wellbeing.

Give me SJ yelling and shaking SY because he can't stand the way the SY just seems to accept their situation. Because where SY's response to fear and uncertainty is to avoid and hide, SJ's is to fight.

I wanna see SJ resent that he's the Only person that SY will actually fight and I wanna see SY being hurt that his brother just won't listen to him when he's Just trying to help.

And then give be post-Qui Shen Twins who learn to understand. Let SJ learn that SY's anger was only safe with him. Let SY understand SJ's violent need to be seen as a real person. Let them both understand that they Both did their best to keep each other alive.

I'm on a "give SJ a happy ending" agenda where kid SJ reverse transmigrated into the modern world and subsequently gets adopted by kid SY. In this au, SY happens to be an only child who desperately wanted a sibling. He found a feral skrunkly SJ and imprinted on him (right after SJ tried to pickpocket him).
