Honestly I could write a whole blown essay about why we genuinely need to start seeing animated adaptations of stage musicals because when I was watching the Next to Normal proshot I kept imagining it as a 2D animated movie with a sketchy watercolor aesthetic where each scene feels like an independent vignette and they overlap with each other more and more as the story collapses in on itself and each character is represented by a specific color or color palette so that anytime parallels between Diana and Dan/Natalie and Henry are highlighted their colors correspond... Or Gabe is always illustrated in a more blurry and loose style and the more we become aware of the fact that he is dead over the course of act one, the blurrier his image becomes - that is until the very end when the characters either fully embrace his existence and stop shutting off their grief (Dan specifically) or move on (in the case of Diana). Or he's colored more "transparently" compared to everyone else and the more he "interacts" with his family the more of their colors his design picks up... Just saying that the bounds are limitless. Even a musical with more serious subject matter and with more grounded characters like N2N would deeply benefit being shown in this visual medium!! There's so much untapped potential it's driving me a bit crazy

Honestly I love Little Shop's soundtrack SO DEARLYY it truly is a no skips album from me and I'm a huge Ashman-Menken fan in general so choosing a true favorite song is hard as hell... But. I do have a song I usually call my favorite and with which I always answer when asked this question... It's Ya Never Know :))

Idk I CAN JUST LISTEN TO IT ON LOOP AND NEVER GET BORED Y'KNOW... the bouncy melody of it, the fun and satisfying lyrics + the choreography in the show itself?!?! Chef's kiss... The song has plant puppet head bopping FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. How can you say no to that come on now... /silly

I might be stretching it, but in a way, the song feels like a true predecessor to some of the duos more acclaimed musical numbers in their later ventures (like Under the Sea and Be Our Guest) so I wish it too was more loved by the fandom :( and for the record Some Fun Now is peak as well and I don't mind that it's replaced with it in the movie all that much...

I also love Seymour's Soliloquy in The Meek Shall Inherit so that too... it's my most played song just bc of how much I loop that part hehe

But again in general this whole musical is SO PEAK TO ME and it has exactly the kind of score and song line-up that perfectly aligns to my taste :3
