HONGICE WEEK Day 5 (7) - Our Secret Place || Playing With The Other's Hair || Falling Asleep On The Other's Lap
(apology at the end but @hongiceweek ty sm for accepting late submissions <333)
disclaimer!!: this one-shot is historical (idk how it got there either ToT), specifically, it occurs in 1971 during the Vietnam War and I just wanted to put a disclaimer here saying that I don't mean to misrepresent the war-- I really tried my best, but I apologize if I did. But if I did, please tell me and how I should fix it with constructive crit!
one more thing (promise!) bc china, hk, and macau are all brothers here I js decided to make them all come from the same area, and have their common language be mandarin chinese bc making it so that they all came from different parts of china is too complicated ToT same for the nordics, den nor and ice js come from some southern part of norway I’m assuming
ok lets go--
The light, hesitating raindrops that fall on Emil’s back tell him it’s time to speed up, and he does; the creaks of an old and broken down Schwinn Sting-Ray grow louder as he turns the corner past the post office Joey’s father owns.
Emil chooses to curse his manager for his bad luck, who’d decided to stay late just to “make sure his best employee was keeping up the good work.” It didn’t take a genius to know that he suspected Emil was stealing coins from the laundry machines— not with that fake smile. And so, he’d been forced to work an extra hour.
Oh— almost missed a left. If his turn had been any sharper, he surely would’ve fallen.
Emil notes down the stores he comes across, and finds his furrowed brows loosening slightly as he realizes he’s only a minute or two away from his destination. Eventually, he parks the bike in a deserted alley and lifts his battered school bag off the metal handle of the bike— the action a bit difficult with the red welts on his knuckles— and walks inside a small, faded blue diner.
The windows are full of shattered glass, covered up with the aid of wooden boards, and the floor isn’t in much better condition; cracks decorate every other tile as if they were part of the patterning too. Emil subconsciously lifts his bag higher up his shoulder when he suddenly catches a flash of motion just out of his vision, but sighs when he only sees a stray roach scuttle across his path.
“Leon, I swear if you’re hiding under a table…” Emil mutters, scanning the tables on his left apprehensively.
“Aw, bummer… how’d you know?” A mop of dark brown hair is the first thing Emil catches, before he sees his friend come to stand with a grin in front of a table on the other side of the diner, past the bar area in the middle. Emil simply rolls his eyes as he crosses the bar to the table Leon is now sitting at.
As he sets his bag down and begins to pull out a few slightly-crumpled pieces of fresh paper, along with a few pencils and erasers, Leon suddenly announces, “You won’t believe what happened earlier today.”
Emil quirks an eyebrow. “Really? Lay it on me.”
“So I’ve already told you about Samuel’s last date— a total flake. Apparently, he went on another one Tuesday, though.” At this, Emil looks up and pauses sketching the word “WAR” on the paper, turning towards Leon expectantly.
“Yeah, and Gēgē Wang was so overjoyed…” Emil looks back to his poster.
“Hey, just listen, OK? So apparently, he got all decked out, bought a rose for her, everything! But when he finally arrived to pick her up, the door was left open a crack. Sam heard some noises coming from inside, so he checked to see what it was, obviously. And the woman was having a nooner with some ditz in sweatpants.” At the last part, Emil can feel a blush sprout up his cheeks, and can’t reply with anything other than, “You have to be kidding.”
“Nope, all true.” Leon’s face is absolutely devoid of any signs that can reveal he’s fibbing, and Emil has no choice but to take his word for granted. It really sucks having a guy who has the best poker face on Earth for a best friend at times.
Leon soon brings out a bag of Ruffles, shaking the bag temptingly under Emil’s face as he works on carefully outlining a picture of Vietnam with a fat black marker. Normally, he would’ve accepted the offer, but Emil wasn’t about to risk getting any oils on what was already a thin piece of paper. Instead, he voices an old question that suddenly came to mind; it’s too quick for his brain this time, and it isn’t filtered out before it reached his mouth like usual.
“Does Sam only ever write about things other than his studies, though?” Emil regrets what he says as soon as it comes out. Strangely enough, Leon doesn’t seem to be too put off by the question. At least, not as offended by it as Emil thought he’d be.
“Well, he doesn’t really… but then again, these letters are more for my gēge than for me, so.” Leon begins to chew on a chip, looking to the ceiling in thought. “He reads the parts meant for me out loud, but he’ll start flipping his wig if I try to read a letter myself.”
“Wait, doesn’t that mean he’s hiding… something?”
“But that’s the thing! I’ve already read most of them in secret, and I’ve never seen anything crazy… he just talks about money, usually. Apparently he’s barely paying everything off over there.” Emil’s eyes immediately widen, and he caps his marker even though he knows full well that there’s nothing he’ll be able to do to magically change Leon’s brother’s financial state.
“I feel like I’m tripping— I gotta be, hell, the most money-minded guy I know is suddenly on the verge of going broke in the big city.” Leon’s voice cracks on his last word, and he immediately tries to cover it up with a cough. Emil’s hand reaches for his friend’s, who lets him take it, and he squeezes as tightly as he can— though the bruises make it harder than it should be.
“Leon, your brother is more than just money-minded. He’s a sharp guy who’s gotten out of tough spots before, like the time where no college even wanted to accept him, or when your oldest brother almost lost his job at the grocery store,” Emil lists, and the tentative breath his friend takes gives him hope that the message got through.
Slowly— almost like Leon is processing Emil’s examples— a hesitant smile forms, and Leon offers, “And all those times he got us out of dealing with the fuzz?”
“Exactly! Though, you were always the one who wanted to try stealing those packs of gum…” Emil sighs, “If it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t have had to deal with them in the first place.”
“And who thought it was a good idea to try snatching 10 in one go?” Leon shoots back, and Emil falters when he can’t think of a good comeback.
“Tch. It’s hard to find spearmint…”
Emil feels the pressure from Leon’s hand as he squeezes back, and is met with a genuine smile when he looks at his friend again. “Seriously, though… you’re awesome. Thanks.”
His heart flutters for a second, and for a brief moment, Emil can only think about how seeing such feeling in Leon makes him want to see it again— forever, if possible. Though… that probably wouldn’t work out, now would it?
The silence reminds him that he should probably say something back, and he mumbles, “No, no, it’s cool.”
“Mmm, yeah. Though really, this has been sitting with me for a while. It makes me wonder why I didn’t tell you earlier…” Leon’s words cause Emil to snap back into the present again, fairly surprised, and he asks, “For how long?”
“Like five months now.” If Emil had a drink, he would’ve spit it out by now.
“You… you know you can tell me stuff, right?”
Leon’s eyes widen, and he rushes to explain himself. “I know— of course I know— it’s just that I thought I wasn’t freaking out over it. I mean, I guess I was, and I still am a bit concerned, but Samuel was mostly mentioning it because he thought I’d face the same problem when I got to college…”
“And you’re not planning to go, so you thought it wasn’t anything to worry about,” Emil finishes, and Leon adds, “Not sure about going, yeah. My problem lies mostly with how sure my gēge is about sending me there.” He swallows a chip and continues, “I don’t want him making all these decisions for me. Maybe I don’t know what I want to be yet, but plenty of successful people were like that at our age, right?”
Emil doesn’t know a single successful person like that, but decides to encourage Leon anyway. “Uh, yeah. Probably.” Leon just rolls his eyes.
“Hey, I’m not saying no at least! And— I get where you’re coming from. Other people shouldn’t be making decisions for you. For anyone.” The government made a decision for Matthias, as it did for millions of other people. Though, most of them weren’t as willing to comply as his brother. Emil reaches for his poster and black marker, unraveling his hand from Leon’s as he starts to work on the letters.
“I’m assuming you really did go to that protest earlier today?” Leon mumbles, and causes the other to pause briefly before nodding in confirmation.
The air between them is silent until he finishes with his first poster and grabs another piece of paper, and Emil asks, “How’d you guess?”
“Saw the bruises. Do you want some ointment? I remembered to bring some today,” Leon reaches for a small container in his pocket; not the brand that Emil recognizes, but he doesn’t stop him. When he opens it, the salve is an opaque white, with an extremely strong smell. Leon begins to rub it into his skin— after first wiping the oils from his chips off his fingers— and Emil immediately winces from the burn it gives him.
“Hey, what is this? Did you get it from your usual store, or— owwww, Leon, ease up on the ointment!” Leon looks up from Emil’s hand, and stops applying the medicine as he answers, “My brother started buying this salve from an ā yí he recently met outside of town. Supposed to be imported from China with all these medicinal herbs or something.”
Emil just stares at him, and Leon quickly adds, “Don’t sweat it, it’s already been ‘tested out’ on me at home, so you should be good.”
Eventually, Emil lets Leon put the salve on his knuckles again, and— after the excruciating stinging at the beginning— he finds that it actually does do a good job of cooling down the area. Emil goes back to working on his posters for next Tuesday’s organized walkout, and Leon goes back to telling his best friend about the gossip he’s heard over the week.
°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。
“—and then Joey told me he thought Melissa was wearing Kleenex cleavage, which was obviously total BS. He probably said that because she was still shining him on for what happened at the drag race last week, when he blew the doors off her boyfriend’s car…” Leon trails off, and stops folding his empty Ruffles bag into weird oragami, when he suddenly catches Emil fast asleep on one of his posters.
“Oh, he’s crashed out… shoot,” Leon mutters. After staring at his friend for a while, though, he startles and haphazardly grabs a few napkins from the old stand on the table to wipe away a string of drool that was seconds away from meeting paper. Leon then begins to ever-so-carefully slip the pieces of paper out from under his head without waking him up.
He then crosses his arms on the table before laying his head on them, and he turns to face where Emil is sleeping. Now that Leon isn’t talking, it’s quite easy for him to hear his friend’s soft snores, and he figures it makes sense that he hadn’t noticed them before.
This usually happens when they meet up at the diner, anyways. Leon was always glad whenever it did— he knows Emil never gets any sleep at home, not with the permanent eye bags he comes to school with. But Leon also knows that it hadn’t always been like this for him.
Emil has two loving brothers; Lukas, and Matthias. Well, no one can really be sure about the second one, but wasn’t that the problem here?
Matthias was drafted into the Vietnam War when Emil and Leon were in 10th grade, in 1969.
Though, unlike most others, Matthias was at peace with this news. Actually, he felt proud and hopeful, grateful to be able to serve his new country. He really believed he could do something.
While Emil condoned Matthias’ decision after hearing the news, the one who was really affected was Lukas. Leon doesn’t know much about him— Emil mostly complains whenever he steals money to buy alcohol and get blitzed, and he wishes the police would just card him one of these days. But Leon used to hang out with Emil at their house when Matthias was still there, and back then Lukas seemed like a well-read type of guy, always serious and rational. He’d even reminded Leon of his own brother, Ho Kang.
But after Matthias had left, it was like a switch to give up had finally flipped in him. Emil only has his job as a laundromat attendant because his brother stopped going to his shifts, and the two always live on scraps because Lukas can’t stop wasting their money on drinks and… fairy tale books, which Leon doesn’t really understand.
But with all this hardship, it only makes sense that Emil’s grades aren’t exactly sky-high. So when his gēge says to not hang out with ‘unsuccessful people,’ it’s not fair to him or his situation. It’s the whole reason why they can’t meet up outside of school anymore, and why Leon has to take advantage of his brother’s extra-long evening shift on Fridays to see his best friend at least once a week.
A strand of Emil’s shiny platinum hair falls over one of his eyes, and Leon’s hand rushes to sweep it back into its place.
Lukas’ reaction to Matthias joining the war effort in Vietnam, along with what Emil had heard and seen about it after his oldest brother had left, had eventually encouraged him to start protesting at the school. There were already small movements, primarily because there were many people in town who were too broke to pay the SSS enough to escape the call or to risk running. Emil only joined them back then, but he practically leads the protests now.
Leon truly has an awesome best friend.
°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。
Emil desperately tries to blink away the sleep from his eyes as he pedals through empty streets as fast as he can manage. He’d woken up to find Leon half-asleep, lax as he sifted his hand through Emil’s hair in the dead of night. And because of that, Emil might’ve yelled a bit too hard at him when he chastised him for not remembering to wake him up before midnight. Really though, he shouldn’t have fallen asleep in the first place… Emil would have to stop doing that so often.
When Emil finally reaches the tall apartment building he and his brother live in, he throws his bike aside and climbs the staircase as fast as he can— taking two, almost three steps at a time. As he does, he fumbles for the keys inside his school bag, and manages to pull them out seconds before he makes it to the unit.
He turns the key in the lock, and thankfully the door doesn’t need anymore encouraging this time, because it swings open with a loud creak after Emil pushes it. He immediately stumbles inside and rushes to the bedroom— where he actually finds Lukas lying in bed, staring up at the ceiling with an empty expression. Emil could cry tears of joy.
“Hei… hva gjør du?” Emil tries, and he slowly walks up to his brother after dropping his bag near the door. He sits next to his brother, and isn’t surprised to find an unbearably strong stench of alcohol coming from him. Lukas says nothing, but he turns towards Emil with furrowed eyebrows and a deep frown. Though, his eyes are too soft for him to be angry.
Instead, Lukas reaches for a book on the drawer next to him, and Emil picks it up for him. “The Little Mermaid? Storebror, did you even eat?” Emil sighs, even though he knows his brother never eats unless he’s there. Lukas only continues to point towards the book.
“Vær så snill, lillebror… I can eat after,” Lukas pleads, and Emil suddenly finds himself becoming persuaded. Today was just full of surprises…
But when was the last time his brother was sober enough to actually ask for something like this?
“Oh— ok, alright, but you must promise to finish anything I give you, I don’t care if you don’t feel hungry or think it tastes bad.” Lukas nods almost immediately, and Emil suspects that he didn’t actually listen to a word he’d said. Oh well, he’d just have to deal with that later.
“Far out in the ocean, where the water is as blue as the prettiest cornflower, and as clear as crystal, it is very, very deep…”

Hongice week day 6! There’s a saying in Iceland
I’m not 100% sure I used the saying correctly but uh you have to accept it 🙏 sorry for posting ts so late again!
₊˚⊹♡
Emil looked at the customer yelling something in Chinese. He wasn’t getting paid enough to apologise and repeat that he doesn’t understand anything for the 5th time. He rolled his eyes and looked at other people sitting at the table. It was just a girl probably in her twenties trying to calm her father down and a boy his age staring blankly at his phone. That definitely wasn’t the first time that man did something like this.

The waiter sighed and turned to the boy “What would you like?”
“I, uh… I’ll just take the dumplings” he said, pointing at them in the menu.
“Uh-huh” he said writing down his order “Something to drink?”
  “Coke maybe?”

“Of course. You?” He looked at the girl and she smiled apologetically.
“I’ll take the sesame oil chicken soup. And for him…” she eyed the still furious man, “He’ll take the dumplings too.”
Emil nodded and walked away after he finished writing. He passed the order to his coworker and sat behind the counter. He hated that job, but it was summer, and he didn’t want to spend it all at home. Getting his own money and not having to ask his older brother - Lukas -  for permission to buy something was also good.
Now he was saving for a new laptop. They weren’t cheap, and even though Lukas said that he could help and lend him some money if he needed, he had to work. He just wished he had picked something else than this stinky eating place.
He continued watching the restaurant to see if he was needed somewhere. He noticed the boy with crazy dad glancing at him while the girl talked to them. He looked away and tried to ignore them. He had to focus, not wonder about his costumer’s conversations. It’s not like he cared about them anyway.
Today this place was filled with tourists. Emil already tried to talk with some Americans hoping that they will leave him a tip. It was the only thing he liked in the visitors. Unfortunately many of them didn’t respect his country enough. Iceland was beautiful and so dangerous sometimes, and for some reason they all preferred to see the second side. Then, if something bad happened, they complained.
He sighed again and turned around. Emil jumped slightly when he saw the guy from the 10th table standing next to him.
  “Your food will b-“
“Yes, I know… I just wanted to apologise for my old man. Look, I really have no idea why he’s so mean today!” He said and took Emil’s hand putting something in it. “I promise to make it up to you later!” He started walking away so Emil opened his hand and saw three 1000 krona bills.
He looked at the boy, but he was already busy talking to his family. He smiled to himself and continued his work bringing food to tables and taking more orders.
When his food was ready he made sure to bring the three plates smiling. First, he placed the girls bowl in front of her, then the mad man’s one. When he handed the last dish the boy stretched out his hands and ‘accidentally’ touched Emil’s again looking into his eyes. Emil blushed a bit.
“Bon appétit!” He smiled even more and went back behind the counter. He looked at the clock,  he could go home in half an hour. He couldn’t wait to change into something more comfortable, that didn’t smell like deep-fried food.

He remembered his brother asked him to buy some groceries. On the next day Emil didn’t have to go to work, so Lukas asked him to cook something for them. He laughed about preparing something Chinese, but Emil couldn’t look at that food anymore. He decided to make something that his brother hated. Maybe lamb stew? It wasn’t that bad, yet for some reason Lukas despised it.

He walked over to an empty table to clean it. He picked up all the dirty dishes and took them back to kitchen, where his friend Matthias began washing them. He and Lukas were classmates in high school and it was his idea to make Emil a waiter in this small restaurant. He went to the table to wipe it clean so other customers could sit there.
That’s when his shift ended. He smiled to himself and after changing his clothes he started walking to his bus stop. He turned on his phone to check when the bus was going to arrive and growled. 30 minutes. He shook his head, it would take him less time to walk home so that’s what he did.
The weather was very nice. It wasn’t too cloudy, the sun was shining on his back warming him up. He could hear birds singing and people laughing. Perfect. He crossed the road after making sure that no car would hit him and continued walking. His neighbourhood wasn’t the biggest and he knew almost everyone living there. His neighbours were lovely, they used to help him a lot when he was younger.
Once he got to his apartment he took off his shoes and jacket, and sat on the couch. Lukas was still at work, so he didn’t need to rush with going to the store. He wanted to relax first! He turned on the tv and went to the kitchen to quickly make himself some tea.
When he sat again he started looking for something interesting to watch. He didn’t want to watch the news all the time, there wasn’t any new movies playing, he was too old for cartoons… He stopped on a documentary about animals living in cold countries. He hoped to see puffins - they were his favourite animals.
Emil slowly drank his tea. He always loved biology. When he was younger he dreamed of owning a few wild animals like polar bears and birds to show them real love. Now he found it embarrassing and he hated when Lukas was reminding him about it.
He still wanted to study marine biology. He didn’t want to end up like Mathias, stuck in a boring job that barely paid him. Somehow he still had enough money to get drunk every weekend and Lukas had to help him picking him up from bars. He wanted a better life, to have money to travel and see whole Iceland, and of course know everything about sea life.
His tea was gone, so he decided to go to store. He turned off the television, put his mug in the dishwasher and took his phone. Lukas left him some money on the table, so he didn’t have to use his savings. He packed everything in a bag and left his home making sure to lock the door.

There wasn’t a lift in this building, so he carefully started walking down the stairs. They lived on the third floor. It wasn’t too bad, but he still hated having to go all the way up there. He stopped after a second when he heard a familiar voice.

The owner of the voice also stopped when he saw him. They looked at each other shocked before he started laughing hysterically.
“No way! You live here?” He continued laughing while Emil stood there confused. “Well, now that we’re going to be neighbours you will have to deal with my family even more. Hah.. I’m Leon”
“Emil. Wh-what are you doing here?” He asked
“Hm? Our airbnb is, like, here.” Leon answered. “I’m really sorry for him.” He said again
“Oh, it’s not a big deal! Seriously, I had to serve worse customers.”

Leon smiled. He looked at Emil’s bag and asked him where he was going and if he could join. His family was busy with some business stuff, because that was the reason they came there. Emil agreed, Leon seemed very nice and… he gave him the tip.

They started walking. The store wasn’t that far from their homes and the weather didn’t change. Leon told him more about himself. They were both 17, he loved listening to music, and lived in Hong Kong. He didn’t have many friends just like Emil, so he was glad they talked.

Emil couldn’t fight the urge to smile and stare at Leon all the time. He never thought he was someone who could start liking anyone so quickly, but there he was, blushing when Leon glanced at him. There was something in him pulling Emil. Maybe they knew each other in their past lives? Or their paths were supposed to cross and they had to stay together forever? He laughed quietly at his own thoughts. It was stupid, of course it wasn’t possible.

He looked at him again. Leon’s hair were shining beautifully in the sun, that wouldn’t go away anytime soon. This week must’ve been terrible for him, it wasn’t easy to get used to nights full of light. But he still looked happy.

When the Cantonese boy finished talking about himself, he asked Emil few questions. His age, if he also has siblings, what he liked to do in his free time, what books he read, and what was his favourite music band. He joked about the French underground music, after Emil told him that the band he listens to the most had only 400 monthly listeners. They chuckled together.

As they finally arrived at the store, Leon kept asking Emil about different products he had never seen before. He was shocked to see how many things were available in the liquorice flavour. Emil decided to buy some, so Leon could try it and warned him that not everyone likes it.

After buying everything they needed, and even more they could go home. Leon said that his father had an online meeting and he couldn’t go to his apartment yet, so Emil offered him to come over. It was nice to finally have someone his age to hang out with, not only loud Mathias, Lukas or his boyfriend. He loved them of course, they became his family after his and Lukas’ parents died. He was just very curious about Leon.

On the way back they were talking too. Emil was telling his companion about his life in Iceland. It was way more quiet than Hong Kong and even the big capital seemed like a small village where everyone was related and they spent all holidays together.

Leon said that Emil’s home was the most cozy he ever seen. It was true, Lukas hated how empty it was without their parents, so he bought a lot of plants, blankets and pillows to put everywhere. They also used the ceiling lamps only in winter, there wasn’t need for big lights when they had sun all the time. Instead they used sweet smelling candles.

Leon also convinced Emil to cook something else for dinner. He agreed on easy pasta with tomato sauce deciding that he will cook something worse other day. It was already around 17:00 and Lukas was supposed to finish his work soon, so they started preparing everything. Emil let his guest help only a bit, because he said that since he was a waiter he knew best how to deal with food. They lit one of the candles on the middle of the table and looked at everything.

“How romantic” Joked Leon and placed his hand on Emil’s back making him blush. Instead of moving away he leaned closer to the Asian and put his head on his shoulder. What he was doing was very risky, he could lose a potential friend or maybe even more. He didn’t care, though. You only live once, right?

That’s what he was thinking on the next day too. After spending whole night talking and snuggling with Leon in his room, he was sure that they started liking each other. After choosing clothes he wanted to wear, he decided to take Leon on a small date. He wanted to show him his favourite place. It was in a nearby forest, right next to a lake.
Lukas was staying at his boyfriends apartment, he got invited few minutes before he left his workplace and he send Emil a short message saying to not wait for him with the dinner, so Emil and Leon could eat the pasta alone in even more romantic atmosphere.

Now he texted Lukas that he was leaving the house and going on a walk not mentioning his friend even once. He went on the first floor, because that’s where Leon’s apartment was located. He knocked on the door and waited.

His sister - Mei - opened it and smiled when she saw him.
  “Uh… hello”
“Hi, Emil! Come in, please, Leon’s eating breakfast in the kitchen” Emil smiled back and followed her.
Leon still sleepy was watching something on his phone and munching on cereal. When he saw Emil his eyes filled with sparks and he rushed to hug him and say hello.
“Do you want to go on a walk today? I want to show you something” Emil asked, his voice full of hope.
“Of course! Just let me get changed” Leon smiled and pulled his hand to take him to a bedroom he slept in.
His suitcase was laying in the middle opened, next to it some clothes scattered around, and another bag in the corner. He smiled slightly seeing the mess knowing that Lukas would kill him for doing something like that. Leon sat in front of the suitcase and started searching for a perfect outfit. Emil sat right beside him waiting patiently.
He blushed when he saw Leon’s chest after he took his shirt off. He could see his muscles quite well. He looked so much better than him. He looked away to not make him uncomfortable and waited a bit more for Leon to put on his clothes.
Before leaving Leon finished his breakfast as Mei told him. He grabbed Emil’s hand and they started their walk. It was an hour od hiking, but neither of them completed. Time was passing quickly when they were together. Too quickly. They talked the whole way there, it seemed that they never ran out of things to say.
Emil was showing Leon different flowers, trees and birds trying to teach him their names in Icelandic. Leon told Emil about the forests in China too. He joked about it being a concrete jungle, but also tried to tell him as many details about plants growing there as he remembered to help the Icelander imagine it.
“You should visit Hong Kong once” He said after a minute of silence “It is pretty in its way”
“I wish I could” Emil whispered.

When they arrived Emil showed his friend how to climb on a tree he always sat on. He moved a bit closer to Leon who touched his thigh. They weren’t too high up, maybe two meters. Looking at the water moving calmly always made Emil feel so much better. It was the place he run to when he found out about his parents death. Lukas couldn’t find him for hours. he just cried here. Since then this was where he spent long days when he felt troubled. He felt a bit closer to his mum here.

He was feeling well, though. He felt like he should show Leon that old tree and lake, because who knows? Perhaps they could spend more time together sitting on it. He smiled to himself and closed his eyes.

Even being completely quiet he felt like he was telling Leon this whole story. His heart started beating faster when he got an idea.
  “Leon?”
  “Hm?”

He turned to face him, his legs now hung on both sides of the branch they were on.
“There’s a saying in Iceland.. ‘Rúsínan í pylsuendanum’. It  translates as a raisin at the end of the hotdog.”
“Really? What does it even mean!” Leon almost cried. Emil wasn’t shocked, it didn’t really made sense for him either.
“A nice surprise or a highlight of an experience. Kinda like ‘the cherry on top’” Emil smiled when he saw Leon’s grimaced expression.
“Why would a raisin be something good on a hotdog? Icelandic food is disgusting!” He laughed. “But… does it mean I can say that meeting you was the raisin on my hotdog?”

Emil blushed and opened his mouth slightly shocked. It was nice to hear that. Leon looked at him and touched his cheek. They leaned closer until millimetres were between their noses and looked in each others eyes last time before closing them and connecting their lips.

Butterflies exploded in his stomach, it felt like magic was running through their bodies completely taking control over them. Emil wrapped his arms around Leon’s neck and deepened their kiss.

He wished it lasted forever, but they felt few raindrops falling on them. Leon looked up and giggled, Emil with him.

They got home after few hours completely wet. They didn’t mind it, because the warm feelings inside of them kept them from freezing. Still with smiles on their faces they started taking their clothes off and putting on Emil’s typical Icelandic sweaters.

Sharing few more kisses they laid in bed cuddling again wrapped in a duvet. They weren’t tired yet, so they started watching a movie on Leon’s phone. Every now and then they would laugh randomly and stare at each other so happy to be together.
“When are you going back to Hong Kong?” Emil asked after a while not sure if he actually wanted to know the answer.

As if Leon read his mind he just smiled and burred his nose in Emil’s hair. “Does it really matter?”.

Master I’m TIRED of writing all the time 🥀🥀 I hate this one, you can tell I was running out of time, it was supposed to be slower and longer but ok.. 😢 I also wasn’t sure about the ending. I had an idea where Leon would leave Emil to go to the airport while he was sleeping and write his phone number with a short note, but the number would be wrong and Emil would just sit there sad waiting for him 🥀 but I’m nice not like hro who drew d*vorced hongice💔💔 hro….
ALSO I WOULD HAVE STARTED WRITING YESTERDAY IF MY DISHWASHER DIDNT BREAK FLOODING MY WHOKE KITCHEN 😭🙏 I HAD TO SAVE MY FLOOR AND NEIGHBOURS FORGIVE ME GUYS IT MUST HAVE BEEN SOME FANFICS WRITER CURSE 🥀

Day 5: Our secret place || Playing with the other's hair || Falling asleep on the other's lap
I drew this years ago.
Every so often, a portal opens to a place where magical creatures hide. One day, a huldra went out, but the portal closed before she could go back, and she had to wait to go home.
Some villagers saw her and wanted to lynch her, but a young man found her and hid her until she could return home.
When the portal reopened, the huldra showed him her home and introduced him to her family. He stayed there and they lived happily ever after.
