Have you ever been to Sai Kung?
Sai Kung, a former British Colony in China, is slightly off the beaten track but preferred by many as an interesting stop. Known as the "Leisure Garden of Hong Kong," Sai Kung has long been a favorite of tourists and fishermen alike. It is a district of Hong Kong that falls into the region known as “New Territories.”
Hong Kong is composed of three different regions: Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and New Territories. These, in turn, are made of various districts (eighteen in total).
Hong Kong Island is the hub where everything seems to happen, and this is where the famous SoHo is found as well as Victoria Peak, Wanchai, Stanley Market Causeway Bay, and businesses like www.atelierlane.com.
Kowloon, which consists of five districts, lies across the Victoria Harbor. While almost half of the entire city’s population live here, many from the Island hardly ever visit Kowloon. It is considered to be the city’s “the dark side” by some Islanders.
Finally, New Territories, where Sai Kung is located, spans across most of Hong Kong. It also consists of nine districts. The name “New Territories” stems from the British expansion of its control of Hong Kong into "new territories" in the nineteenth century. The 99 year long British Crown rule of Hong Kong came finally to an end in 1997.
Today, Sai Kung is known for its natural seaside beauty, and it is a popular attraction for locals who wish to get away for the weekend.
No discussion about Sai Kung is complete without talking about the famous seafood. From the myriad of restaurants that prepare it to the locals selling it fresh on the Sai Kung Peninsula pier, seafood seems to be everywhere. To the delight of foodies, Sai Kung offers cuisine that ranges from local delicacies to authentic Thai or even Korean dishes.
Sharp Peak sees a lot of hikers who regularly brave its unusually beautiful albeit steep and challenging, peaks for hours, to be vouchsafed a view of the striking sea panorama below. Hiking around the Sai Kung Peninsula is an excellent way to see the hexagonal volcanic columns of High Island, which have been called “A Masterwork of Nature.” This route also takes hikers past the High Island Reservoir and Long Ke Wan, one of Hong Kong’s best scenic roads.
Sai Kung’s street markets add yet another dimension to its charming appeal. Health-food shopping, farmer’s markets, craft markets and organic produce abound here making it a bargain hunter’s dream.
Scuba diving in Sai Kung is some of the best around. With a wide variety of marine life to see and also the possibility of seeing some unique species, as well as unusual rock formations; diving here is embraced by many. Scientists have discovered 84 species of reef-building corals in Hong Kong. Most of these can be found in the area of Sai Kung. Anemones and clown-fish are also spotted regularly as are lizard fish, moray eels, and cardinal fish, to name but a few.
Sai Kung has fewer crowds than the central city but, for the more discerning tourist, this is often a godsend and a great way of getting a more intimate knowledge of local culture and way of life.

I managed to get my hands on the new iPhone X, but it waasnt’ easy. Dissapointing to see that so many of these devices went to the scalpers and not to the end-customer... Apple needs to get on top of this so the people who really want one get one and not the scalpers just out to make a buck.
