Having a crush, in Jake’s opinion, was one of the most amazing yet extremely humbling experiences a human can endure.

Sure, it’s nice having someone to fan over, but that’s before shit hits the fan. Once others find out, endless teasing and futile attempts at matchmaking ensue. That alone makes Jake avoid crushes. Now being an idol, crushes are so much worse because of the stigma around dating.

And, to make matters worse, Jake had a crush on you of all people. His junior within the company.

There were many benefits to that, on one hand: he was able to see you more often in person, “accidental” run-ins were very frequent, and it wasn’t weird of him to know a lot about you. You were company-mates after all.

But with every benefit there must come a downside. With you being his junior, you were much more careful about your idol image than he was. You also refused to break many rules, even when your groupmates would egg you on. Also, all of the members of his group were well aware of his “tiny” crush on you and would purposely try to talk it up with you and your groupmates about him.

Heeseung in particular was horrible. He couldn’t keep his mouth shut when gossiping to your eldest members, Sakura, Chaewon, and Yunjin.

Your groupmates found this absolutely hilarious, especially Yunjin.

So hilarious, in fact, that she and Chaewon decided to corner you in the practice room and taunt you on his behalf.

“Oh, Y/N~!” Chaewon practically sung after you all ran through your most recent comeback, “Anti-Fragile”. Yunjin was trailing behind her, slowly, as they both approached you, now sitting in the corner of the practice room.

“Eunchae! Will you, Kkura, and Kazuha bring back some water for us?” Yunjin called as the three were beginning to leave the room to get some water for themselves.

Once they were gone, Chaewon and Yunjin sat beside you on the floor.

“What do you guys want from me?” You groaned. Those two were never up to any good, and couldn’t be trusted alone.

“Nothing, nothing.” Yunjin claimed, though you did notice the mischievous glint in her eyes, and how she repeated herself, like she always does when she lies.

Chaewon smiled, turning your head to face her. “So, funny thing. HYBE wants us to film a TikTok to “Anti-Fragile” with some senior groups. As the leader, they let me have a say in who’s going where. I’m filming one with TXT’s Yeonjun, Eunchae is filming one with New Jeans’ Haerin, and Yunjin, Kkura and Kazuha are opting out.”

Yunjin nodded.

“What does that have to do with me?” You laughed.

“Well, the managers said you’re with Enhypen. Why not go film one with Jake and Jay? You’re close in age and all foreign line.” Chaewon smiled at Yunjin with a perfectly evil grin. She knew Jay wouldn’t be able to do it today, he was busy with a schedule.

“Now?”

“Why not now? Come on, we’ll help you find him.” Yunjin stood up and grabbed you by the hand.

“I don’t trust you both in the slightest.” Laughing, you let Yunjin hoist you up.

After exiting the practice room, you coincidentally crossed paths with Enhypen’s Jungwon and Ni-Ki, seemingly on their way to their practice room.

“Hey! Jungwon! Have you seen Jake and Jay?” Chaewon turned back and called to the tall boys.

“They should be upstairs in the practice room.” Ni-Ki responded before Jungwon could even say anything, not even turning back to see who asked.

“Thanks! Race you both to the elevator!” Chaewon said.

“I am not using the elevator. Manager said I have to either go on a diet or start exercising way more, and I am not giving up fried chicken that easy.” You let out, heading towards the stairwell as Yunjin and Chaewon reached the elevator.

You were lost in your thoughts as you trudged up the stairwell, not even snapping out of it until someone bumped your shoulder as they practically flew down the steps.

“Oh, sorry.” He apologized, stopping to look up at you. His eyes slightly widened when he realized who he’d bumped into, none other than you.

You turned around to face the culprit just to be met with Jake Sim, your senior who you were supposed to film the TikTok with. “Oh, you’re fine. I’m sorry.”

A beat of silence followed.

“Oh, um, so... Your new comeback, huh? Pretty great, isn’t it?” Jake awkwardly stated, his face slowly turning a shade of pink.

“Yeah, I think so. I didn’t know you knew my group, though. Hahah.” You laughed tensely. “Um, about that... My manager said that we’re supposed to be filming a TikTok together. With that song. My song, I mean. Do you mind going to a practice room to learn it, and then we can film it?”

Jake smiled sweetly, “Sure, yeah. That works.”

You beckoned for him to follow you upstairs and you went into the first empty practice room you could find.

Once you entered, you opened Melon and put on your song. Moments later, you smacked yourself on the head. “Oh, shit! Where is Jay, he’s supposed to be in this TikTok.” 

“He’s busy today.” Jake laughed. “Just gonna be us, if that’s okay with you.”

“Sure, that’s cool.” You looked up at him from your phone to find him already smiling at you fondly. You smiled back, turning up the volume of your song.

“Okay, just wait for the chorus, but what you’re gonna wanna do is this:”

You began to demonstrate the post-chorus to him, the part that would be filmed for millions to see. You wanted this to be perfect.

After about 15 minutes, Jake got the post-chorus memorized and so you two decided to split up to go find a manager.

Roughly thirty seconds later, Yunjin and Chaewon were charging at you full speed and yelling your name. “Y/N! Where have you been?!”

Meanwhile, Jake ran (unintentionally) directly into his own groupmates, Heeseung, Sunghoon, and Ni-Ki. 

“So... How are things going with that girlfriend of yours, Jake?” Heeseung teased.

“She’s not my girlfriend... And this is like the only time we’ve ever been able to interact one-on-one, but I think it’s going okay. It’s just slightly difficult to make eye contact.” Jake shrugged, “By the way, have you seen our manager? We need someone to film this TikTok.”

“JAKE!” You yelled from down the hall. “I FOUND A MANAGER! HE’S ALREADY IN THE PRACTICE ROOM! COME ON!”

Jake blushed as he left his groupmates, a trail of “Anti-ti-ti-ti Fragile”s following him from Ni-Ki and Sunghoon.

Once you and he had filmed the TikTok, you prepared to separate ways.

Jake was not about to let that happen, so he conjured up any excuse possible to keep spending time with you.

“Hey, uh, where are you headed after this?” He asked casually after the manager had left the room.

“Probably either the downstairs practice rooms or the Cafeteria, why?” You responded.

Jake sighed, “Mind if I-”

His sentence was cut short by Heeseung, Yunjin, Chaewon, and Sunghoon entering the room. “You two are driving me insane, seriously. Y/N, I caught Jake watching your fancam last night.” Heeseung spewed out. “Jake, Yunjin has told me horror stories of Y/N rooting for you on I-LAND. Please just get over yourselves and, I don’t know, kiss or something! Good God, I cannot wait for you two to finish whatever you’re doing so we can use this practice room.”

Heeseung huffed as he and the others exited the practice room, impatiently waiting for you two to leave.

Silence consumed the room while you and Jake avoided eye contact with one another.

Heeseung knocked on the door, “Any day now would be nice!”

Swallowing your pride, you looked at Jake, who was having a staring competition with the floor currently.

“Is what he said true?”

“Yeah.” Jake sighed again.

“You seriously watched my fancam? So I taught you this dance for the TikTok for nothing?” You feigned being offended.

Jake looked up at you, smiling. “Well, not for nothing. I really liked being able to spend time with you one-on-one. You’re something special, you know that?”

You flushed a bright red. “Let’s just go to the Cafeteria.”

As you both left the practice room, you were met with the notorious four “matchmakers”, who were singing “Anti-Fragile” again quite obnoxiously.

“They’re not gonna let me live that one down.”

but you two met when he was on a variety program, they were intending on asking him that same question about his ideal type, so they asked you to come and visit during the show to see his reaction

he nearly fainted on the spot

dating him would be constant texting back and forth because he can’t see you all the time

you immediately turned red and went to find your group’s van, where three of your members had been waiting for you

a week later, your group and enhypen’s promotions had overlapped again at another music show, but this time jake had unintentionally walked into your group’s waiting room

this time, when he approached you after to apologize, you confessed that you had been the one to walk into enhypen’s van the week prior anyways, so you both ended up apologizing and walking around backstage talking to each other before your group had to go perform

you went and performed your song, and afterwards jake found you again and you two talked until he went to perform and by the time he was done, your group had already left

but! you left your number on a post it note in their waiting room with a “FOR JAKE” written on it in permanent marker

you two began talking and meeting up backstage whenever it was possible

eventually, jake asked you out before you went on stage to perform, and you said yes. when you went on to perform, your face was bright red for your entire fancam and it went viral amongst kpop fans, everyone wondering why your face was so red

you were under the same company as wonyoung (starship) and had debuted two years earlier than ive, making you their senior

so when you have to stand in for wonyoung as an mc, sunghoon is unfazed

that is until he actually meets you in person

sunghoon was a fan of you; your solo songs being big hits in korea, being known as a person who’s prettier in real life, which was very true

and this revelation genuinely rocks sunghoon’s world when he’s made to work beside you

like that entire day his face is red, he’s constantly sneaking looks at you, and he genuinely thought he was being subtle about it too

but fans genuinely enjoy your interactions, and are very pleased to see sunghoon (and other enhypen members sunoo, jungwon, and jay) invited onto the radio show that you permanently mc on

and sunghoon DRESSES for the occasion. like his fit was so well put together, and you notice it too, making sure to comment on it during the broadcast

from that point on, you and sunghoon aren’t really “friends”, but you two both mention how nice it was to work together

and then isac comes around and you two are paired for the mc duo

after that, you ask sunghoon for his number and you two end up getting invited on a lot of variety shows following, because people enjoy your interactions so much; and this gives you a chance to become closer with sunghoon

he ends up asking you out backstage after an mc segment where he and wonyoung interview you and another soloist, and though you were very surprised, you say yes

he becomes a fan very quickly, learning your group’s famous choreo and learning all the lyrics to the song

so when he djs for the radio show the following week, he actually requested the same song of your group, admitting to the radio show that he was a fan of your group

surprise surprise!! two weeks later, you and your member show up as guests on the show

you approached him after the radio show ended and filmed a tiktok with him and exchanged numbers

he ends up asking you out roughly a month later, after you visited him after radio schedules and started hanging out in secret, and you said yes to him

after you two started dating, he would visit you at your schedules a lot and vice versa

you also ended up posting that tiktok with him after the OK from your company, which confirmed you two were friends to both of your fans

never outright announcing a relationship but fans can put two and two together lol

one time he came to your fansign and he was so shameless about people finding out that it was him

you were a member of enhypen’s junior group who’d debuted as a result of i-land 2

so naturally, you see enhypen at hybe and interact freely, but you found that their leader was a bit standoffish with you

you thought that maybe he has a one sided beef with you as you also ranked 1st in the final episode of i-land, but that wasn’t it at all. jungwon had a crush, and he didn’t know what to do about it

(mr. johnny yang secretly supported you on i-land and everything)

so when hybe makes a variety show with your group and enhypen and you and jungwon are paired together with ni-ki and the maknae of your group, he’s so embarrassed to find out that you thought he hated you

ni-ki teases him until jungwon admits to you (off camera) that he’s fond of you

you also admit that you were equally as fond of him, having him as your role model ever since you entered i-land

and it doesn’t take very long for you two to begin dating, and in fact hybe encourages it because they think it’ll be good exposure for both groups

and it is

you gain the nickname of “first place couple” and people love it

you both are invited on a ton of variety shows and are very very open about your relationship

jungwon is 110% supportive of your every endeavor, and is lowkey a stan of your group lol

whenever your group passes enhypen’s to go to the practice rooms, your members always tease you and enha always teases jungwon

you were invited onto a variety program for foreign idols

your group had been in the industry for a couple more years than enhypen, so riki knew of you but you weren’t too familiar with enhypen

but you ended up becoming familiar with them after being partnered with him for some of the challenges

you two had one interaction go viral after you two both executed a twice choreo together perfectly

your company and hybe saw this as a good chance for some $$ so they forced you and riki to be closer, little did they know you guys wanted that anyways lol

so you’re constantly having vlives together and such, and somewhere along the line you develop feelings for each other

Your eyes met with the clock for what felt like the millionth time tonight. The time, which read 7:49pm, taunted you from your spot. Jake told you he would be at your home by 6:30pm.

It was now long past the time he promised, your hope of him remembering your date night now long gone. You had texted him five times, yet were never returned with a response:

5:54 pm - can’t wait to see you later!! <3

And roughly thirty minutes later,

6:27 pm - make sure you get here safely !!!!!

And the final three texts all occurring within the past hour:

6:51 pm - where are you?

7:12 pm - are we still on for tonight?

7:38 pm - never mind… i’ll see you soon. don’t bother coming by tonight

You had also called him twice and texted his friend, Jay, to make sure he wasn’t in any serious danger. When you called Jay at 7:29 pm, you had semi-expected him to not pick up, assuming he was with Jake for whatever reason.

Jay, however, picked up and told you that he was with Jake and their other friend, Sunghoon, for a ‘boy’s night out’. He sounded rushed and frantic, assuming he was playing video games or focusing on something that was too important for him to give you attention.

Not only was your pride down the drain, but it felt like your heart had been washed down with it. Jake had told you how excited he was for this date night, helping you plan it and even booking reservations at your favorite restaurant. This just made you feel more confused than you were originally; why would he be the one so adamant about making a date night and then proceed to ditch on you?

You weren’t sure.

Your train of thought was interrupted by the doorbell of your house ringing. You didn’t even have to check the peephole of your front door to know who it was, and you weren’t bothered enough to walk to the front door and let he-who-must-not-be-named in.

Your door was repeatedly knocked upon, the sound beginning to make you annoyed. You stalked your way to the door, standing right next to it, “I’m not letting you in, Jake.”

The knocking began to get more rapid, a weak ���Please.” being heard from your boyfriend from the other side of the door. He sounded exhausted.

You placed your hand on the doorknob, contemplating whether to let him in or not. You braced yourself before opening the door to Jake, who looked like he’d been jumped.

“Oh my god, Jake!” You exclaimed, pulling him into your house and closing the door behind him. You brought him to your couch before examining his face, which was littered with cuts and decorated with bruises. Jake immediately wrapped his arms around your waist, hugging you with a grip so tight that you weren’t sure you would be able to breathe in.

Jake let out a sob, “I am so, so sorry.”

You embraced him back, patting the back of his head before grabbing his chin so he would look at you. “What happened to you?”

You wiped his cheek, blood smearing across his face and staining your thumb. The blood didn’t seem to be Jake’s, however; it belonged to someone else.

You retracted your hand from his face, studying your thumb that now had someone’s blood on it, “Whose blood is this, Jake?”

You were now scared. Jake didn’t answer.

“Jake, whose goddamn blood is this?!” You almost shouted, your hands beginning to shake. Was your boyfriend a murderer?

You stood up from the couch and ran to the kitchen to wash off the blood that was still smudged with blood. Jake followed you into the kitchen, you quickly putting distance between the two of you with your chest now heaving and tears brimming your eyes. You had never felt more scared in your life.

Jake tried approaching you, unintentionally backing you into a wall. You grabbed the closest weapon you could find to defend yourself: a spatula. Your heart rate had picked up miles by now, your puny spatula no match for the man in front of you. He softly grabbed the spatula from your hand, putting it back where it was found, and grabbed both your wrists.

“Y/N,” he started, now choosing his words carefully. You wouldn’t meet his gaze, you were still fearing for your life. “I want you to look at me. Even if it’s just for 10 seconds, it’ll do. I…” Jake trailed off.

“I have to be completely honest with you.”

At these words, your heart dropped to your stomach. You still wouldn’t meet his eyes, so he grabbed your chin and made you two lock eyes. He looked genuine.

Jake took a deep breath before opened his mouth slightly, the view of two sharp fangs coming into view, both red at the tips, likely from blood.

Your eyes widened, subconsciously tightening your grip on Jake’s hands, before you whispered in the smallest voice Jake had ever heard you use, “Did you kill someone tonight?” You sounded like you were about to cry.

“Baby, no.” He pulled you into his arms, you immediately latching yourself around him, still in a state of shock but relieved your boyfriend did not kill someone. “I would never.”

“W-Why are you so bloody, then?” You stuttered out, muffled because of your refusal to leave Jake’s chest.

“People hunt vampires, love.” Jake rubbed your back, calming you. “I’m so sorry I missed tonight. Sunghoon, Jay and I were returning from hanging out when we spotted two vampire hunters and a female vampire in an alley. We had to do what we had to do.”

You detached yourself from Jake’s chest, “You killed them?”

“No, no! Don’t worry, I wouldn’t kill anyone even if I had to. I turned one of them into a vampire by merely biting their neck and Jay turned the other. Not before a big fight, though.” He gestured to his face, bloodied and bruised.

You hugged him, “I’m sorry.”

“No, no, no, I’m sorry. I missed out on our date night when I promised you I would be here.” He grabbed your hand and walked to the living room with you. “If anyone deserves an apology, it’s you.”

“Jake,” you started, grabbing his face once you were both seated on the couch, “I love you.”

He kissed you, smiling into the kiss, “I love you, too.”

“Promise not to ever bite me unless I ask?”

He laughed, “I promise.”

“Okay,” you smiled, letting go of his face. “Let’s get you cleaned up, yeah?”

“Yeah. And we can have our date night after.”

he thought to himself, “what’s wrong with one peak?” because he didn’t think you had anything to hide from him

so when he was met with the sight of jungwon’s photocards, he was genuinely very confused lol

he didn’t want to bring it to your attention first, so he kinda avoided it for a bit

not bcs he was hurt, he was just really really confused LMFAO

he decided to bring it to your attention three days after the fact when you two were chilling in your room

he asked, “y/n, what’s that binder?”

you became so embarrassed bc u forgot to mention it to him

when you finally did tell him that you collected jungwon’s photocards, he became pouty

he wanted you to collect his photocards too

you laughed because you thought he was going to find your habit weird, but you reassured him you would collect his photocards also

(just as long as he promised to give you them directly instead of you spending for them)

jay knew of photocard collecting, and he didn’t mind it, but he didn’t expect you to do it

he found out when he was at your house and you were doing a chore so you asked him to get the mail for you

jay was curious, but he didn’t want to open your mail without your permission

so he waited until you were done with your said chore and asked you if wanted to open your mail

you told him he could, and as soon as you recognized the packaging, you quickly took the mail out of his hands

he was very confused and became upset that you had something to hide from him

“what are you hiding?” he asked you, saddened

you decided to show him anyways, and his frown went into a smile as you handed the mail back to him, “i’m embarrassed.”

he happily opened the mail, reassuring you that you had nothing to be embarrassed about. his smile quickly dropped when he was met with sunghoon’s photocard

he looked up at you from his spot with the most unamused face ever, “why?”

you told him about your hobby, to which he told you he didn’t mind it, but he wishes that he could’ve found out you collected him, your boyfriend, instead

days later, u found the photocard of sunghoon that he had given jay as a gift on your bed with a note, “you need it more than me. - j”

JAKE SIM ; 심재윤

jake never really expected you of all people to be a photocard collector

so he was taken by surprise when he walked in your room one day and your room was just littered with dimension : dilemma albums

every member’s, minus riki’s, photocards were scattered out on the floor

riki’s, however, were in a nice and neat pile on your desk, and even the dupes were piled in a separate pile

you had intended to tell him that when he arrived at your house to wait for you in the living room, because you didn’t want to tell him quite yet

you weren’t ashamed, but you didn’t want to tell your boyfriend that your enhypen bias wasn’t actually him, and instead it was his youngest member

but as we all know, jake loves riki

so when you enter your room and you find jake looking for his photocards on the floor, you’re startled and flustered

you ended up confiding in him immediately, not wanting to keep your hobby a secret any longer since jake already found out

he was very supportive, and even agreed with you that his enhypen bias is riki

lowkey pressures riki to take good selcas for photocards every release so that you’ll have the best looking collection ever

PARK SUNGHOON ; 박성훈

he knew something was up when you were constantly getting mail

he decided that he was going to ask you about it instead of snooping around because he’s better than that

when you were asked, you avoided the subject because you didn’t collect sunghoon, your boyfriend, and you were afraid he might become deflated or think you like jake, who you did collect, more than him

so you told sunghoon that you had purchased gifts for a friend

however, he walks in on you one day as you’re organizing your jake collection with a bunch of opened mail packages scattered around you

he stops in his tracks, “so they weren’t gifts?”

he’s not hurt or anything, in fact he’s teasing you

he asks to see your collection, which he’s impressed by

(and maybe he’s a little jealous)

within the next week, you have a random binder on your bed, and when you open it, it’s a full collection of your boyfriend’s photocards

when you confront him, he tells you, “if me physically forcing you to collect my photocards is what takes for you to look at me instead of jake, i will start giving you them firsthand.”

KIM SUNOO ; 김선우

sunoo was so elated when you wanted to open a bunch of enhypen albums with him

he was very surprised, though, at your excitement when you’d opened the album to a jay photocard

he also notices how you keep the jay photocard on you for safe keeping

but that night, when you and sunoo go to your room to hang out, you decide to just be straight up with him and admit your hobby

(you noticed how he looked a little deflated after your reaction of pulling jay)

but because you were honest with him, he got even more happy

because now he could help you get your hands on jay photocards !!

he now also hypes jay up so much because he knows that jay is your bias

but ever since you told sunoo about your habit, he makes the (not-so) discreet habit to place his best photocards around your house

it may or may not be because he wants you to collect him too

YANG JUNGWON ; 양정원

you two were both hanging out at the enhypen dorms

you had gone to the bathroom and left your phone with jungwon and he was just scrolling through your instagram feed

you suddenly were dm’ed

out of habit, he clicked on it, finding out that you received a dm of someone replying to your dm asking them if you could purchase a sunoo photocard for your collection

he was genuinely very confused; since when did you collect photocards, let alone sunoo’s?

he decided to not ask about it, he had no evidence that you actually collected, plus this was just one photocard

until

you returned from the bathroom, and when you flopped on your bed next to jungwon, you unlocked your phone for it to be opened to the dm

you immediately became embarrassed, not wanting jungwon to find out this way

he, now curious, asked you if he could see your collection

and when you pulled your binder out, he asked you if you could start collecting him too

he would also find a way to take selcas for you and print them out, calling them “limited photocards”

he actually had to find out secondhand

you were friends with heeseung before meeting riki (he was friends with your older sibling), and as heeseung was the one who introduced you two, you had a soft spot for him

so you began collecting his photocards

you told heeseung about this, to which he took a picture of your binder with you next to it

little did you know, he sent it directly to riki

an hour later, after you and heeseung were dropped off at the enhypen dorms, you were met with a sulky riki

he immediately asked you about your hobby and why you collected heeseung instead of him

you were taken aback, you didn’t even know riki knew of your hobby

you reassured him that even though you collected heeseung, if riki wanted you to, you could start collecting him too

the next day, when you and riki hung out, he handed you a large sum of enhypen albums, telling you he would start collecting his photocards with you LOL

“Have you ever thought about running away?” You suddenly asked to your best friend, Heeseung, while sitting in his red convertible on a mild April night — April 29th, to be exact — thats weather seemed a little bit too nice with the windows down and the roof out of the car. Your close friend group had rightfully named your best friend’s car “HOAJCBIACANS”, which stood for “Heeseung’s Old Ass Junky Convertible, But It’s Actually Cool And Not Shitty”. Lord how he hated the name, but sadly, to his dismay, it stuck.

Your question caught him off guard, causing him to slightly choke on the milkshake he had bought (you had bought one too, but by now yours was long gone) before looking up to you with a confused look on his face. He visibly swallowed whatever he hadn’t choked on, wiped his mouth with his sleeve, and cleared his throat before answering. “No,” he started, looking at you. “why?”

You glanced up at him from your spot in his car. The car itself wasn’t really even that junky, sure, it had some dodgy doors sometimes, and occasionally the stereo didn’t work, but it was a good car. You shrugged, repositioning yourself so you could see him better. “Why not?”

Seeing as he didn’t answer, you continued. ��Think about it, Hee. We live in a city that barely even exists on the map. Doesn’t it, I don’t know, get boring to you here sometimes? Seeing the same people, places and things over and over again?” You gave him a pointed look, hoping he would understand where you were coming from. Sadly, though he was your best friend, he did not.

“Y/N, I don’t- no? Why would I need to? You think about this for me: It’s our last year of high school, we’re going to graduate soon, go to college, get a job, have a good life. Don’t you want that?” He asked, returning your pointed look.

You sighed before looking at your busted shoes, then meeting his gaze again. “You’re literally proving my point right now, Hee. You’re talking about all this routine like it’s a good thing. Listen, I know we’re two different people, but doesn’t the idea of routine ever get boring to you? Hear me out: I know about how planning for the future is good and all, but where’s the fun in it?”

“I don’t think I understand what you mean.” He sighed, slightly chuckling under his breath.

“I mean, don’t you find fun in the unexpected?”

“No, Y/N, I find myself being anxious in the unexpected.” He laughs a bit more this time, a dry laugh, then glances out the window. “Y/N, do you ever think about what might happen if you don’t plan ahead? I’ll tell you what happens: You lose sight of your values. Sure, chasing a different future than what’s meant for you might seem fun, but, in reality, I think you’re underestimating how dangerous this world is.”

You laughed, “You know what I think you’re underestimating? How fun it would be if we just got up and left. Just saying.”

He rolls his eyes at your statement before sighing. “What time is it?” You glance at his car stereo, which reads the time of 11:42pm. You don’t answer, choosing instead to focus on the stars above you two, which seemed to align perfectly in the moment. Heeseung cleared his throat to regain your attention, and you mindlessly answered him “11:42.”

The drive home from where you and Heeseung were previously wasn’t very long — but this time it felt a little too long. Maybe it was because you had realized that he was serious about this ‘routine’ thing that you had never been interested in. The stereo was softly playing some old 80s song you’d never heard of. You weren’t really that big of a fan of 80s music, (any other time you would’ve asked to change the channel) but you were glad it was there to fill the void of silence.

As you two reached your house, Heeseung glanced at you with a knowing look on his face. But, if he was being honest with himself, his look of knowing was completely a facade. Sure, he was trying to act like he knew what was going on in your head, but he wasn’t completely sure.

You sighed before looking at him with a soft smile on your face. “Thanks for taking me out to hang out tonight, Hee. We haven’t done this in a long time, it was nice.” Though Heeseung missed it, your smile slightly faltered before you said, “Try not to get lost on your way home, alright?” You both softly laughed as you got out of his car and waved him goodbye.

You and Heeseung were very similar. Especially in the aspect of being people-watchers.

You were an observer, always sitting back and watching the world blow by in your own ways. Though you were more of an observer, you also didn’t hesitate in joining the world as it passed by, as in making the most of the time you had, for you didn’t know when your time was going to end. Many people had seen you as a risk-taker, but nonetheless, you still only saw yourself just as an observer.

On the other hand, Heeseung was a reader. He enjoyed reading people, whether it be his teachers, his friends, his parents, or even the strangers that walked into the coffee shop he was currently employed at. Reading people was an easy thing that came to him. However, that night of April 29th, Heeseung realized two things. One, you hadn’t made a point to turn off the 80s music like you typically did, and two, Heeseung could not read you at all.

“C’mon, it’ll be fun!” Jake pleaded to the blonde that sat in front of you two.

Jay stares back at you both unamused. Park Jay was not one to attend parties, for he didn’t have much experience with the “popular” crowd at all. You and Jake, on the other hand, were well liked by everyone, so you always had the chance to go to (secret) parties, unlike himself.

Jake sighed. This wasn’t going to be easy unless you were involved. “You know, you really need to loosen up.” Jake continued, now murmuring. “Hag.”

You stifled a laugh while Jay glared at Jake. Jay gave you a pointed look, his unamused expression not fading at all.

“I said, ‘no’, Jake.” Jay sighed. “Did you not hear me at all?”

A small silence settled itself on you all as Jake turned to look at you, signaling silently with his eyes for you to try and “work the magic”.

Glancing back at Jay from your previous glance at Jake, you decided to try. “Jay... please?”

Jay pinched his nose bridge while letting out an extremely over-exaggerated sigh. He then gave a look to you, glanced at Jake, looked back at you, before ultimately returning his eyes to Jake, who wore a knowing smile.

“Fine.”

Your eyes widened before you let out an excited gasp. “Wait, really? Yay! I’ll let Heeseung know you’re coming!” You happily exclaimed before skipping out of the Ravenclaw common room to return to the Slytherin common room, where your prefect, Heeseung, resided.

As soon as he was sure you left, Jay looked at Jake dead in the eye and said, “Fuck you, by the way.”

Jake chuckled before resting his hand on Jay’s shoulder closest to him. “You wish, weirdo.” And with that, Jake started walking to the Ravenclaw common room’s door to exit.

“You’re weird, Jake.” Jay laughed.

“9 o’clock, Friday at the Slytherin common room, don’t miss it!” Jake called to the empty common room (albeit Jay being in there), before leaving to return to the Slytherin common room.
