Kirin Sinn Indie CF, Director/Designer
How did you first find out about Indie CF? I found out about Indie CF on Facebook. Through an ad for a director position. I was a recent graduate, returning from a stint in Europe, mainly Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. I was doing a bit of freelancing at the time. Posters for plays. Video promotions. Pretty much anything for money. I thought working at Indie CF could be my chance for me to do something really worthwhile.
What is your position at Indie CF? It used to say Multimedia Director on my business card. That’s because Multimedia was my major. But these days, it’s not as clear…
Really? Then what did you study in school? In school I learned all about video pre-production and post-production. Everything needed to put together a film. In general I think Multimedia can be a pretty wide subject. But at my school instructors teaching media art began disappearing. I ended up taking a lot of advertisement-related courses. We made tons of commercial films. So I guess my major was video advertising.
Is there a good ad campaign you like that you want to share? Canon EOS M10 TVCF comes up with good stuff.
Wait, so what do you actually do at Indie CF? I handle anything related to video. When companies commission ad campaigns from us, or we need some kind of promotional content, that’s me. When there’s down time in video-related work, I help out with our app design. The Hooreel character, that was me too. Right now I’m redrawing the stickers users can apply videos made with Hooreel.
Cool. Then what do you do when you have free time? Sometimes I still help out on movie projects. Recently I did some post-production work a documentary about working holidays. The director needed some small text animations. Said she wanted it to be like a comic book.
Oh, and a dream of mine is to create my own magazine about tattoos and tattoo culture. But I haven’t had the time to put that one together yet.
Do you even have a tattoo? Yes. Of a crocodile.
Whoa. To change the subject, you’ve probably seen a ton of movies, so what’s the best and worst of Korean cinema? Best- Park Chanwook (Stoker) Worst – Hyuk Byun (The Scarlet Letter, Korean Version)
And are there any apps that you use regularly? There’s this app called Chit Chat. It’s like a walkie-talkie version of snap chat. You leave a sound message and it gets deleted after it’s heard.
What do you listen to or watch on Youtube? There’s this thing called ASMR or 3D Sound that gives you audio sensations to simulate real life experiences. Like having your haircut, sitting by camp fire, or crumpling tinfoil.
Trippy. Wait…do you like listen to this stuff while you work? Sometimes.

Suhyun Kim Indie CF, Co-founder and Designer
When did you start working at Indie CF? I was with Indie CF from the beginning, when Kona (Indie CF CEO) was just coming up with the idea. She approached me as I was getting ready to graduate from university. I only had a few months left to put together my portfolio, start looking for jobs, etc etc. When she asked me if I would to work with her instead, I took her up on the offer without missing a beat.
So how did you know Kona (Indie CF CEO)? She actually used to be my art teacher. When I was in high school she offered lectures at a private art academy I attended. Even after I stopped taking her classes, we continued being friends. It’s funny to think I started out calling her “Teacher” and now were like sisters.
What’s it like working at Indie CF? How has it changed? In the beginning we had no idea we would eventually make a smartphone app or head in the direction of an IT business. We started out as a video production company, providing customers with whatever kind of videos they needed. Eventually we thought it would be better to enable people to make their own videos. I think that was our big pivot point.
How would you describe your job? Aside from a Graphic Designer, I consider myself to be an Artworker or Operator. The difference is that rather than just doing my own thing, my work requires me to discuss a certain project and come up with a finished work that reflects someone else's ideas and particular needs.
What did you study in university? I studied comics and animation. To graduate I remember we had to complete several group and individual projects. As a freshmen I worked on some animation project about “Korean Christmas.” As a sophomore I worked with a team to create a parody of popular Korean game “King of Fighter.” For my graduation project, I created my own comic book. I’m too embarrassed to look at it now, but it’s about 150 pages long, it’s about vampires, and the title is “The King.”
What do you do on your free time? As a hobby, I’m still into making comic books. Sometimes I also work with fabrics, design bags, wallets, tumblers and other products like that to give to friends or just for the fun of creating them.
What are some of the apps that you use regularly? Other than Hooreel, sometimes I use Clips for video editing. Clear is a good to-do manager and Tydlig for calculating design-related measurements.
I heard you went to NY for vacation. What did you do? In New York? I ate, walked, shopped, ate, caught a few musicals...then walked some more and ate even more. Oh, then I went shopping…and then I ate again. I think you get the picture. If not, check out the videos below I made of my trip!

Last week we packed up and relocated to our new office in the Seoul Youth Hub! — a collection of non-profits and youth organizations serving as a platform to help Seoulites in their 30’s and younger share ideas, build communities, and mobilize together for fun, meaningful causes.
Originally built as a medical examination building in the late 1960’s and 70’s, the retro buildings that comprise today’s Youth Hub were scheduled to be demolished until a group of young people banded together to preserve and repurpose the buildings.
Now we inhabit this space with hundreds of other orgnanizations working for causes that range from startups, starving artists, upcyclists and a variety of groups serving the public good.
The buildings are a little bit old and run-down, but it’s a great use for a space that would otherwise have gone to waste. Now we’ve got tennis courts, parks, and a bunch of old creepy, but kind of cool buildings to explore and use for shooting.
To be completely honest, we mainly moved in to take advantage of the cheap Korean craft beers located on the first floor, but we also thought it would be a good chance to help out other non-profits while recording some cool footage while we’re at it.
The Youth Hub hosts events year-round and almost every time we look out our window, something interesting is going on.
Our new office is located on the 3rd floor, room 301. We’ll be sure to keep our fridge well-stocked with ice coffee, fresh fruit and plenty of craft beer in case you should stop by!

Mobile Advertising App ‘Hooreel’ Receives Investment from Primer and Sazze
Original Article: beSuccess Published October 5, 2015
Korea’s largest angel investor, Primer, teamed up with US-based eCommerce investor, Sazze, to invest in Indie CF aiming to revolutionize mobile advertising with their serviceHooreel that connects people in need of video ads to capable directors.
Hooreel puts the power of an entire video production studio in the palm of every smartphone user, enabling people to plan, edit and broadcast their own viral marketing videos. With this investment, Hooreel plans to expand their service to also include a market platform that will let users discover and commission ads from directors they like all within the Hooreel app.
When asked about her next move, founder and CEO Junghwa Park said “This investment will help us push beyond ad creation and let us do what we really want, which is connecting people who need video ads with directors who are good at making them.”
Park previously worked in the advertising industry, creating hundreds of TV commercials for the biggest names in Korean business. Frustrated by how prohibitively expensive advertising was, she developed Hooreel as her IT solution to the world to help level the playing field in ad access.
When the update is complete, Hooreel will become the first mobile marketplace where smartphone users with a background in advertising or directing will be able to connect directly with clients looking to commission customized video ads at affordable prices.
With online video poised to become the next big internet phenomenon, it’s no wonder investors like Primer and Sazze are helping companies like Indie CF come up with the next new platform for online ad and video creation.
