Project 3: Digital Video
Introduction and Learning Objectives
Looking at different modalities previously used, and how this has shifted and how they can be repurposed.
Learning Objective: "Librarians will be able to recognize how technology has changed in information organizations to better perform in their field."
Licensing
All photos were free stock photos, from Unsplash
Additional video, effects, and sounds were from Movavi’s effect library
I created the music track on Garage Band
I filmed the Kindle on my iPhone
I did a screen cast of the Library Website
The voice over was me directly recorded into the software
Storyboard or Planning
I ended up shifting the focus of this video and the order of some the elements, the basic idea was still apparent in the final product.
Techniques
Count Down effect
Both a moving and Stagnant Title Card
Cross Fades on the Images
A static TV effect in the background
Applied color effects on the additional backgrounds
Edited the video, screencast and audio for time, clarity and removed unnecessary noise or dead space
Movement in the screencast
Separate Music Track
Separate Recorded Voiceover Tracks
Extreme close up on iPhone video
Used a zoom in effect and lens from center effect in transitioning from one video to another
Movement in the screencast
Credit reel with sound effect
Reflection
I got to explore some technique I hadn’t used before as well as become reacquainted with others.
I did run into some struggles with the software and had to rejig a bit due to files moving or getting corrupted.
However, I do think the software has a lot of nice features when it does work.
The video turned out well despite the challenges and the shift from the original plan.

Project 2: Digital Audio
Introduction and Learning Objectives
This is to show an example of the evolution in a specialty library. One of the things that will bring libraries into the future are these specialty library fields and collections. I thought it fitting to have an audio track that dealt with something related to audio and/or music.
Learning Outcome: "Librarians will be able to recognize how technology has changed in information organizations to better perform in their field."
Licensing
The two tracks are of my creation, the music was created on Garage Band and is called Piano Mix. The voice over was just recorded for purposes of this project.
Techniques
I used a Noise Reduction filter on the whole thing, had to do a larger threshold for the voice over portion.
I used Fade in and out.
Cut certain pieces of the track, deleted long pauses, clicking, ums or ahs.
Used the envelope tool to adjust the audio and strength, especially on the parts that were too loud/hot
Decreased the gain on the music track so that it would fade more into the background
Reflection
This turned out a little different than expected.
I deviated from my initial draft, opting to just use the one music track versus the original two I had chosen. The length didn’t fit the voice over and their would have been a portion without the music.
I thought the track should be consistent.
I used a lot of techniques to clean up the track and am overall happy with the finished result.

Project #1
Introduction and Learning Outcome
I want my final project to encompass some of the interesting artifacts related to how information institutions have evolved, ie libraries, archives, and museums. These changes have been to keep up with the changes in technology, interests, the economic challenges, and the current added parameters of the pandemic.
This first graphic looks at the technology changes.
Learning Outcome: "Librarians will be able to recognize how technology has changed in information organizations to better perform in their field."

Captured Images:
+Bookcase
+CD Stack
Used Gimp and Inkscape
Techniques
Raster -
Basic = Change image sizes, rotate, adjust brightness/contrast, adjust color vibrancy, adjust hue/saturation, subtracted from the selection
Advanced = Add objects by cloning, remove a large object, add texture, create a graphic shape
Vector -
Basic = Cut and erase, add a line of text, format text, draw simple shapes
Advanced = Reshape text, use paths, and recolor artwork
Design Elements
Contrast: Used darker bookcases with white text and lighter, brighter backgrounds
Repetition: Used clone stamp tool on the bookcase to make it look like a uniform set, used the same bullet points and font through out
Alignment: Lined up the text elements to the image and their rectangular surrounds
Proximity: Had the descriptions close to the elements they were defining/describing
Reflection
I learned more about vectors in this process, I only ever took one illustrator course. When it came to raster images, I had previously done a lot with gimp and photoshop. I relearned some techniques I had not used in a while. The critiques helped me to clean up the images and make them clearer to see.
I like the element choices I ended up working with.
