Propping himself up better against the wall, Komaeda waited patiently for Mikan to at least slow down her self-deprecation enough to be coherent, even if she couldn't stop it altogether. "You haven't failed me at all, on the contrary, you're really helpful. I trust you, and the hope you have inside you. Everything is going to be fine if we just have hope!"
Tumblr media
"But... it is true that things aren't too great right now. You've seen it, right? The rioters are all wearing that same mask, they've completely lost themselves. They aren't people anymore, just embodiments of despair. It's despicable, isn't it?" Even if he wasn't feeling at his best, there was no need to formulate plans here -- this was all plain facts.
"Whatever you do, stay away from a woman named Enoshima Junko. She started all of this, and she's probably doing everything she can to continue it. All she wants is despair, disgusting horrible despair, she'd bury us all in it if she could!" Had. "What you don't remember from the island..."
Tumblr media
"That bear made us kill each other. We were classmates, so full of hope... and the bear you remember pit us against each other for our survival. It was... a truly despairing situation." She didn't need to know how much Komaeda had encouraged it, no one ever did understand his methods, this was enough for now. She didn't need to know her own fate from the island, either. "Some of us died. But.. it seems that somehow, we're alive again. Or still. We're not on the island anymore, but the world has been turned into this terrible place. ...It's our duty to bring hope back to a despairing world. Don't you agree?"
[ ANGEL OR DEVIL ]
So it was real.  Of course, there was little room for other possibilities once she’d seen the rioters’ masks, but inside, she’d desperately been trying to convince herself that it was a coincidence.  And from the look on Komaeda’s face and the tone of his voice, she could tell that something bad had happened.  Hopefully, it wasn’t her fault…but the odds of that were rather low, as well.
For someone normally so frail and shaky, Mikan didn’t falter in supporting him for a second.  He was one of her patients now, so she had to be strong.  She kept a close eye on Komaeda for any signs that the head injury had become serious - unfocused eyes, or trouble staying awake.  On one hand, she was exceedingly relieved that he seemed to be okay.  On the other hand, was it her fault that he’d been injured at all?  If only she’d shown up earlier…
When they reached their destination, she looked around for something to make Komaeda comfortable.  Maybe clothes could be piled to form a makeshift cot?  Actually, they could serve as material for bandages, too.  But she’d still be happier at a big, fully-stocked pharmacy, surrounded by the smell of isopropanol and rows of syringes.  Her thoughts, threatening to wander, were interrupted by Komaeda’s words.
Tumblr media
“Ah?  S-Strong…No, not at all, r-really.  I’ve just been lucky, I guess…n-not as much as you, of course!  All I-I’m good at is being a nurse…”
It was here, in the ruins of civilization, that her exceedingly meek nature had really come in handy.  She ducked out of sight at the first sound, and almost had a sixth sense of when someone - especially more than one someone - was approaching, so she’d been able to avoid the rioters for the most part.  And who would want to waste their time on her, anyway?
Tumblr media
“B-But thank you for saying such k-kind things…!  I really don’t d-deserve it!  And you’re important, too, Komaeda-kun, s-so…I don’t want to fail you if I p-promise that…I…I’m sorry…”
Tumblr media
“Uuuuu…I’m already letting you down, r-right?  I’m sorry, I’m sorry…I-I’m such a useless crybaby…This i-is all m-my f-f-fault, isn’t it?  You don’t have to…force yourself to b-be kind for me…I’m s-sorry for whatever I d-did!”
It took quite the leap in logic to convince yourself that you were to blame for the fall of society, but Mikan believed it wholeheartedly.  She turned away and started to run, but tripped and fell to her knees, sobbing.

It was obvious he was downtrodden, whether or not he had hope left, he was nothing compared to the boy Komaeda had watched at the beginning, scared but confident that something like a school of mutual killing wasn't possible. That hope should have flourished after the deaths started, it should have grown and become more beautiful with each gruesome scene, but something-- something had stopped it in its tracks. Something had corrupted Naegi's hope, twisted it into knots.
Junko tended to have that effect on people.
The others who watched hadn't cared, they were all rooting for despair, but Komaeda had watched the ones so filled with hope and he had seen every change that indicated Junko's string-pulling. He'd almost fallen prey to it himself, he'd come so close that even she probably believed he was as loyal as the rest of them to despair, so of course he knew what it looked like, and Naegi had reeked of it the whole time.
"Bad luck... You're looking at it all wrong!"
Tumblr media
"You could have died so many times even in the past hour or so. All those people you just met, they're all members of SHSL Despair, you know? Terrible, dangerous people who will stop at nothing to spread despair as far as they can! But you survived against all those amazing talents in the school, and you've survived so far out here too. It's really good luck, isn't it?"
Tumblr media
"As for my luck... It definitely works differently than yours. All my life it's been a pattern of bad luck, followed by good luck that outweighs the bad. The more terrible a situation, the better the outcome! I can't use my talent for anything, though, it's totally worthless because I never know when it will go into effect." Naegi clearly didn't have such a certainty behind his luck, so really it seemed even more worthless than Komaeda's own... But if that were true, Naegi wouldn't be standing here right now. Maybe Naegi's luck was just.. overwhelmingly good?
"But that's important, you know? The worse things are, the better they'll be in the end." He wanted to say it now, just get it out, hope was on the tip of his tongue and begging to escape, he hadn't been able to enthuse about hope in so long and anyone would start to feel strange after not talking about what they love, wouldn't they? He wanted to grab Naegi and ask him right out do you still believe in hope is there still a chance will you let despair win am i still alone--
But he held his tongue. Junko loved finding pockets of hope, she loved grinding them into dust, and Komaeda knew he would never break but if there was anything left in Naegi it was a flickering candle in a windstorm. One wrong move and it would be back to square one. He had to test the waters, to see if Naegi was lost or just... misguided.
[ WE'VE GOT A BIG MESS ON OUR HANDS ]
It was wishful thinking that motivated Naegi to keep going as he pushed his classmates—his past friends— into killing each other. Even in a situation as bad as this, he remained optimistic and hoped for the best outcome, and he thought he had attained it. He survived… at the expense of everyone’s death, but at least it was over, right? He could go home and try to forget everything that had happened… that was what the optimist thought.
In the end, Junko revealed to him the truth. He, along with his classmates, had lost two years worth of memories. Over the expanse of those years, they attended Hope Peak Academy together and had become good friends. Junko had been hinting at this all along, but Naegi had been hoping that it wasn’t the case… that the ones he spurred into killing each other weren’t people he knew. What she revealed next wasn’t something Naegi was expecting. He forgot all about the “Worst, Most Despair-inducing Incident in the History of Mankind”, an event that happened a year ago, leaving the world in a chaotic and despair-filled state.
He killed his own classmates… for the sake of returning to this kind of world… this was the Despair-inducing finale Junko was aiming for.
With nowhere left to go, Junko took him under her wing and made him part of her finely tuned team of despair. He met an array of people, all of whom were completely loyal to Junko and her cause. Introductions were brief, as the luckster spoke very little. Frankly, he was appalled so many people strived to inflict despair on others.
The group eventually left him to his own devices, but one last person came up to greet him, an underclassman by the name of Komaeda Nagito.
There was something about the enthusiastic way Komaeda spoke that made Naegi uncomfortable. How could he insult his own ‘talent’ so casually? However, he had to admit that there was truth behind what he said. Winning a draw… it was hardly anything to be proud of. Perhaps this person would empathize with how little Naegi felt compared to the other attendees.
Tumblr media
“… I didn’t think I would make it either.” He responded slowly and quietly, mulling over each word as if he had forgotten how to communicate with others. It had been awhile since he spoke without the intention to deceive someone. “What do I think of my luck? I… don’t think I have any luck to begin with… except bad luck… I have a load of that.”
Curious about the other’s intentions, Naegi questioned his underclassman back, “How about you…? What do you think of your… ‘worthless’… luck?”

No, he didn't want to take it inside, he wanted her to go away, but obviously she wasn't going to be doing that any time soon. He had no choice but to follow her into his own room, and shut the door behind him -- he'd had Hinata take the room next to him specifically so they could alert each other quickly if something went wrong, but the idea was already beginning to backfire. What was she planning?
The way she immediately went to his bed, laid herself out on it like some kind of succubus, did she really think he was going to be seduced by such a disgusting person? The past was the past, and whatever she had used to get him into bed before she didn't have now. More than anything, her act was just pissing him off more.
Tumblr media
He took a deep breath to calm his aggravated heartbeat a bit before speaking. "...No. I'm not. Whatever you had on me before, you don't have it anymore."
He couldn't remember the last time he'd been so angry over something so small, she really had a knack for it, didn't she? "...But then, you already knew that, didn't you?"
Tumblr media
"Are you reliving some sick fantasy, or just trying to tick me off? Go ahead, spew your lies about Hinata, tell me he's some amazing person miles above me, I don't care. I know he's even more worthless than me, but that didn't stop me from bringing him back here so he wouldn't die out there like the talentless trash he is. Lie to me all you want, I know Hinata better than he knows himself."

[ WE'VE GOT A BIG MESS ON OUR HANDS ] CLOSED; AU NAEGI
Luck. It really was a worthless talent, wasn't it?
Honestly he hadn't paid much attention to his upperclassman that shared his title (the only shared talents in the school), though he knew the name Naegi Makoto well enough. A worthless talent, not really talented at all, but somehow... Somehow he was the last one standing. Small, talentless Naegi Makoto, up against all those impressive people filled with hope to their very core, even if they turned to despair they still were hope, but this person, this talentless creature with only luck to guide him...
Maybe they were alike in that regard. Komaeda too only had luck to keep him alive (longer than he'd been meant to live, which diagnosis was wrong, or was he a ticking time bomb?), luck and, a million times more important, a hope that he nurtured every day. With greater despair comes greater hope, and this world around him had fallen so far, so, so far into despair, only the brightest of hopes would make a difference now.
It was a truly beautiful situation.
But his hope alone would never be enough, he knew that much, and the best chance he had with his own year's students was the abomination Kamukura Izuru. And 'best' was being extremely optimistic, not to mention just the thought of the "Super High-School Level Hope" made him a bit sick. Manufactured talents were worse than no talents at all.
But even though the other members of SHSL Despair really were full of despair, lost causes who wouldn't listen to Komaeda even if they had anything left in them, it seemed there was still a little hope. Junko's latest recruit, SHSL Good Luck, a traitor who allowed despair to take all his friends. In the end, he still had hope, didn't he? Hope for survival, hope for Junko not double-crossing him, he must have had so much hope.
And where there was hope, it could be nurtured. It could be grown. Faced with the ultimate despair before them, Naegi could either crumble, or have a hope that shined brighter than any of them could imagine!! Even Junko.
When Naegi was introduced to the full breadth of SHSL Despair, Komaeda held back. He let the others do as they would, and no one noticed, of course, he was just Good Luck, he was no Princess or Gymnast or Mechanic. He didn't matter. So he waited, and when Naegi was alone, he finally approached.
Tumblr media
"Naegi, right? I'm Komaeda Nagito, it's a pleasure to meet you! It's amazing, I never would have thought someone with such a worthless talent as Luck would have survived so long, but here we are! Ah, I mean-- I was the Super High-School Level Good Luck of my year." He was even smaller in person. Did that help his survival somehow? He certainly looked harmless, a feat Komaeda himself had never managed to pull off, no matter how pure his intentions. "To find yourself in this situation... What do you think of your luck?"

Just as he was considering trying some of that 'mouth to mouth' stuff he'd seen on TV, his thoughts were interrupted by a voice, the chest under his hand moved as well and he about jumped out of his skin before realizing that this was a good thing, this meant the person wasn't dead, not that he was back from the dead or anything.
Tumblr media
"Ah, good morning!! I'm glad you're alive! Sorry to get my dirty hands all over you, but the only place I know has a pulse is the inner thigh and I thought that might be worse." In his experience, anyway, people were pretty serious about that being an invitation-only zone.
Finally retracting his hand from the stranger's chest, he sat back on his heels and did a quick visual check. No, still no obvious serious injuries, and he was acting a little too... spunky for someone with internal bleeding so that was probably a good sign. Pretty eyes, too.
"Well, porcelain doll-kun, you don't look like you're bleeding anyway... What happened? Are you okay?"
[ CAN YOU KEEP A SECRET ]
The streets were quiet this time of day. The peaceful haze of the afternoon washed over the area, leaving several picturesque areas dotted around for views sake.
However, the only view the brunette had was blackness, that inky abyss that formed in the seemingly infinite space behind ones eyelids. Not that he was consciously peering into the abyss mind you. It sort of over took him once he felt his consciousness let his body fall to a heap on the concrete.
A boy had arrived, not that he knew yet of course. A very odd boy who seemed to have no idea how the human body operated at all and whoa there tiger if you’re gonna feel him up, at least take him to dinner first.
It would have been a dead (or perhaps live) giveaway to his current status if the other knew how to take a pulse, but as he didn’t…
The brunette did regain consciousness, however, thoughts through his mind like ripples in a pond. But the one the bubbled to the surface the fastest, the fiercest, even more pressing than ‘what happened’ or ‘where am i’ was… ‘who is this stranger groping me in a street’?
He must be looking for a pulse but… well he wasn’t very good at it, meaning it was just some stranger and not someone legitimately qualified for this.
Eyelids creaked open, ever so slightly, revealing bits of his sparkling golden eyes. He could make out the faint shape of a green blob with a white blur on top. Must be the one intent on touching him.
Tumblr media
“I have a pulse if that’s what you’re looking for. Please stop running your fingers over me, I’m a stranger to you, not a porcelain doll.”

...Next to nothing, then. If she was telling the truth, at least, then she must be incredibly confused at the state of the world she had woken up into. It was amazing she had survived this long without any experience under her belt; this kind of danger wasn't easy for normal people to handle. Of course, she wasn't normal. She was a Super High-School Level talent. But he'd seen talented people go down against much easier obstacles than she must have already faced.
But complete memory loss of her time on the island? Was it intentionally done to her, like the first time? If so, why not everyone? And if it wasn't deliberate, and she wasn't lying... Maybe it was a natural defense mechanism. Well. In that case, he didn't really blame her. But he couldn't let her live on in ignorance either, or she wouldn't be living on for very long.
Tumblr media
"It's... probably for the best, that you don't remember." It would cause problems if you did. "But this definitely isn't a dream. Not even I'm that lucky... I'll explain what I can once we're safe."
She was right in that this was no place to be having that discussion, but this also allowed Komaeda time to gather his thoughts, and make sure he didn't end up saying something unnecessary. Head wounds were tricky, and every extra second counted.
Speaking of head wounds, he could blame that on why he half-lead them a full block in the wrong direction before finding the building he had been looking for, but somehow they managed to get their in one piece anyway, and when Komaeda was satisfied that they were deep enough in the store and wouldn't be having any unexpected company he heaved a heavy sigh and let himself slip off of Mikan and against the nearest wall instead. Second floor, surrounded by racks of clothes but with a clear line of sight to the nearest exit, against a wall so no one could sneak up on them. It wasn't the very definition of safe, but it was as close to it as he thought they could get without tracking down an actual shelter (and, his own complications aside, even those were iffy).
"Thank you for your support, I don't know where I'd be without you."
Tumblr media
"You're really strong to still be functioning so well when you don't know what's going on. You must have so much hope in you... Please don't lose that, no matter what. This world needs all the hope it can get, and Super High-School Level talents like you, you are hope. So please... If you can promise me you'll do your best to keep hope, I'll try to explain the whole situation to you."

“O-Oh, you don’t have to thank me.  And you really don’t h-have to…say those kinds of things about y-yourself…I…Um, this is w-what I’m here for, so…”
She looked down at her shoes, clearly unaccustomed to his compliments.  And before you could even think ‘sorry’, her head jerked back up, face frozen in an expression of horror.
Tumblr media
“B-But I didn’t mean that I d-don’t care or anything!  You’re m-my classmate, so leaving you behind would b-be…Ah!  It’s n-not that I feel like I have to, either, I…I just…I want to…s-sorry…”
With her face burning like a bonfire, she shuffled alongside him in silence until he spoke again.  Her grip on his arm tightened a little in uncertainty.
“…Um…”
Tumblr media
“I…d-don’t remember a lot, actually.  It still seems like a-a dream…Th-There was a bear or something, right?  The rioters are wearing those m-masks, and…I’m s-s-scared.  W-What’s going on?  No, w-wait, we should p-probably wait until we reach the store…sorry…”

Maybe it was a little refreshing to not be the one with lower self-esteem for once. Then again, there was no telling how much of this was genuine and how much of it was an act, but Komaeda wasn't complaining. He didn't mind at all if someone talented looked down on him, but to be treated even better than an equal, well, it was kind of nice. He thankfully wiped at his mouth until the tissue came away red and smiled again, less bloody and more genuine. He really was starting to feel better already.
Tumblr media
"It would be an honor to be kept company by such a talented person. To be honest, my health has been known to outdo my luck in the past, and I really can't afford to be down for the count right now. You're truly kind to put up with trash like myself."
Tossing the bloody tissue and leaning some of his weight on the nurse, he started to lead the way towards the safest place he knew nearby. Well, steer was more accurate than lead, but it would do.
Though he lowered his voice a bit to account for the surroundings, Komaeda was unable to hold himself back from speaking altogether.
Tumblr media
"Before we get too close, I have to know... How much do you remember from the island?" She had the upper hand here, he knew that much without a doubt, and if she was bluffing Komaeda was definitely going to get a syringe full of unpleasant stuff in his neck or a scalpel to the back of his knee, whatever it was nurses did to people they didn't like. Asking her now rather than later certainly didn't increase his chances in a worst-case scenario, but at least if he had to run he would... stumble a bit farther in the open than if he had to navigate the interior of a department store.
[ ANGEL OR DEVIL ]
Mikan hovered around him like a particularly weepy little fairy in several yards of bandages, biting her lip.  She knew Komaeda had Super High School-Level Good Luck, but she was pretty sure that if it came down to him and her, the universe would do backflips to ensure that she failed.  Painfully.
There was some blood on his lip, but just a bit.  As if on autopilot, she reached to dab it away with a tissue from her apron, but caught herself just in time and shyly offered it to him instead.
Tumblr media
“I…Um, w-well…do you m-mind if I come with you?  I-It’s just that if you fall a-asleep, s-someone should really check your breathing…S-Sorry, I’m being such a burden…”
His shelter wasn’t safe?  That worried her, too.  What if he got injured again?  It’d be her fault for letting him go back to a dangerous place, right?  She’d better stay by his side, at least until he was feeling well enough to fend for himself.
Of course, she had an ulterior motive.  She didn’t want to be alone.  And this was what she lived for, the brief moments when she was needed by someone weak…

She was being deliberately loud now, there wasn't even a purpose to this, she was just being a bitch. And doing a good job of it too. Was this all she was here for? To piss him off? It wasn't an easy feat for most people but she had a special in.
But when she started talking about Hinata... it was just too much.
Tumblr media
"Hope? If you're going to make fun of me, try a little harder. A title like Hope..." He wanted to say 'that's not even possible' but his mind helpfully supplied instead a bitter that's all I ever wanted. He had died for hope once and he'd be all too willing to do it again. Hinata didn't even care about hope. And why would the files say everything else except what Hinata really was? They wouldn't, simple as that. Hinata was a reserve student. He had no talent. He was average, boring, talentless trash and he still considered Komaeda too low to be worth friendship. That kind of person couldn't possibly hold a title like Hope.
"You're not going to trick me with such a flimsy lie, so give it up. Starting off weak like that, you've already lost this round. And I won't stand out here in the hall and listen to you try to wake up Hinata for no reason."

It had been a long day. Such a long day, even from the time he had woken up in the bed he was now returning to, long and tiring and too much emotional stress, he’d barely been injured at all but his body was ready for some rest anyway. Of course, he didn’t expect to get any, not yet. With Hinata safely in bed, Komaeda still had one obstacle before he himself could sleep: Junko. Safety in numbers only worked when there were numbers to keep him safe.
Hinata’s room was right next to his, but the hallway was dark and Komaeda had no doubt what he would find when he got to his door — and there she was.
He stopped short, not wanting to get too close to her (he was now well aware of how her hands liked to wander), and shifted uncomfortably when she spoke. That tone…
She was angry. He wasn’t going to be able to just brush her off and get to the relative safety of his room.
Tumblr media
"I don't follow your orders anymore..." He kept his voice soft, he still didn't know how thick the walls were and he had no intention of cluing Hinata in on all this Despair stuff before he even knew his own identity. It would be too much for a normal person... "And what I do with Hinata--" ...No, she'd said his name first. She must have overheard them, right? Even if Hinata had been in SHSL Despair as well, he was just a reserve student. Where there was one, there had to be plenty more, and Junko couldn't have any interest in someone with no talent. "What I do with Hinata is my business. He's just a normal person."
The last thing Komaeda wanted was for Hinata to catch Junko's eye somehow, especially if it was his fault. He had barely met this girl, even if she claimed so much more, and he had no idea what she considered despair-worthy and what wasn't. If he let on too strongly that Hinata was in any way important to him, there was a chance she would hurt him just to make Komaeda despair.
...He'd never had anyone that could be taken away before. It was an unpleasant feeling.
"Whatever you want to say to me.. just say it. I don't want to play games right now."
♗+ ♛ :: you're getting warm, you're getting warm // closed: komaeda
Tumblr media
Junko lay in her bed on her side, relishing in feeling of being freshly showered. How she managed to find shelter with running water she’ll never figure, but she wasn’t complaining in the slightest. It probably would be a good idea tie her hair up in pigtails, but it’d take a time and effort and she just wasn’t in the mood for it. When had she last slept?
Komaeda had gone out. After she had lied straight through her teeth had a nice chat with him, he slipped through her fingers and out the door. He wasn’t leaving forever though, he had found shelter. Where beds are warm and showers are flowing, survivors will gather, and he wouldn’t be leaving it anytime soon. On the other hand, if she her… hands strayed a little too much, he might bolt. But she was smart, she would make sure he would stay on edge. Not falling off, but teetering it.
Oh god though, that look on his face, where he looked like he was going to be sick, the look of despair washing over his entire body. Him skittering to his feet and running down the hall, leaving Junko to her own, not allowing her anything more. It’s like he was taunting her, leaving her in more and more despair and even slipping into it himself, just barely long enough for her to be gratified.
But he believed her story, and that was all that mattered at that point.
Footsteps and hushed chatter stopped her thoughts, and she turned from her side onto her back, listening a bit closer.
Not just one, but two people were entering her domain.
Nyagito had brought her one of his little friends.
How cute.
Tumblr media
She could wait though, listening in on the conversation at this point seemed to be the best choice. Waltzing out there could scare away the new friend and would be rude of her! Who is she to interrupt her Komaeda’s conversation? He obviously was making a new friend, and it was nice for him to be getting out there and talking to people. Even if he was talking to…
… Oh.
Oh.
Tumblr media
She hadn’t heard that voice in a very long time. Hinata Hajime, or as she would prefer to call him, Kamukura Izuru, finally came back to her. She placed her arms behind her head, staring at the ceiling fan that was covered in a thick layer of dust.
Dear, sweet Komaeda didn’t know about Kamukura. Dear, sweet Komaeda thinks Hinata is just a simple boy. Dear, sweet Komaeda is about to have his hope crushed.
She would wait though. Let him get his hopes up, let him think things are working out. The sound of a faucet turning on caught her attention, the chatter continuing. She yawned, turning over onto her side again and curling up. She closed her eyes for a bit, allowing herself to doze a bit.
Tumblr media
The noise of talking shook her from her sleep. They were home, both of them, finally. How long had it been, one, two, five hours? She had no way of knowing. Junko stood up from her bed, walking over to her vanity to check on her makeup. Her nap seemed to have not messed with it, eyelashes still attached to her face. Her hair was still down though, and she hurriedly bunched one part of her hair up and pawed her her desk for a tie. It took a little bit of time, but she managed to get the trademark twintails again. Her boots were still on, she hadn’t gotten around to taking them off in the first place. The sound of a door closing shut that wasn’t the one across from her meant that Kamukura had gone to sleep, or at least, retreated to her room.
In that case, it was time to pounce.
She opened her door slowly, slipping out and closing it behind her. Had to go fast, make sure Komaeda couldn’t get there before her. She took a few steps through the murky darkness of the hallways towards Komaeda’s door, pressing herself against it and waiting to hear something. The silence and footsteps in the other direction told her no, Komaeda was definitely outside of his room. She turned, pressing her back against the door and crossing her arms. She smiled and waited.
“Nyagito, you finally came home. It’s impolite to keep a lady waiting, you know.”
Tumblr media
“Did you have fun without me? Go talk with Hinata for a little? Go out and have fun without your darling Junko there? Oh, but not too much fun, right?” Her words were hissed out through clenched teeth, her being somewhat bitter on being run out on, but also to invoke a bit of fear. The leash needed to be tugged on a bit.

Good luck: SHSL Nurse. When he'd heard her voice he had immediately assumed bad luck, but obviously amnesia was catching; if she had remembered, she wouldn't be treating him so well. His head was still spinning, but he was glad for this level of good luck. Not only was he going to get treated by an expert, but things were looking to be on hope's side for only the second time since he'd woken up.
The question of whether or not he should keep her in the dark came up, but considering what had happened last time... Well, he'd think about it more when she wasn't responsible for his health. Best case scenario, he really would die of an infection just for making her angry.
Standing up a bit unsteadily, he smiled and hoped that he hadn't bitten his tongue or something; smiling with blood all over your teeth wasn't pretty.

"Don't worry, I don't mind touching you. I'm lucky it was you who found me, anyone else would have left me for dead at best!" He was glad she offered to let him lean on her, he wasn't sure he wanted to deal with her reaction if he did so without permission -- not like a normal girl, getting mad at him for being a 'pervert' or something when he hadn't done anything wrong, but probably a lot of loud apologizing they couldn't afford to be attracting people with. With a sigh he relieved his head of a bit of aching by taking up her offer and putting one arm over her shoulder, giving her some of the strain of keeping him relatively upright.
"My shelter is pretty dangerous..." For her in particular. "But there's a department store a few blocks ahead, they wander it sometimes but since most things have been stolen or broken already it's usually pretty clear. If we can get into the deeper parts it should be safe."

“K-Komaeda-kun…!”
A worried pink face, framed by hair like an accident in a crepe-paper factory; it could only be Tsumiki Mikan.  Trembling hands touched his arm and were immediately withdrawn in case of offending.
“What happened to y…” she began, and then caught herself.  “No, that’s a d-dumb question, right?  It’s obvious you’ve been hit, a-and here I am wasting precious time like an idiot!  I-I’m s-sorry…!”
A slight but noticeable change came over the nurse.  Yes, she was still a nervous wreck on the verge of tears, but now her hands were moving with purpose, and her trembling had subsided for the most part.  Rummaging inside her apron, she produced a roll of bandages.
Bad luck, the city was in ruins and almost everything was scarce.  Good luck, medical supplies had been slightly easier to come by - the rioters would turn on each other at the first sign of weakness, so they didn’t bother with things like band-aids.  In fact, some of them almost seemed to relish the pain, the despair, and had been grinning as their so-called comrades torn them to bits…Of course, she still had to be careful, because what better way to cause despair than hoarding life-saving medicine from those who needed it the most?  She’d had several narrow escapes from grinning anarchists, hopped up on pills and morphine.
But an SHSL Nurse could make due with almost anything.  Good luck.  In any case, once she had checked the severity of Komaeda’s head wound, she swiftly bandaged it and helped him to his feet.

“Y-You’ll be okay, I promise…Try not to make any sudden movements, okay?  A…And I’m sorry you have to be t-touching me like this, b-but you can lean on me if you need to…D-Do you know if there are any safe places nearby?”
…For some reason, the sight of that head wound had made her blood run cold…

He looked to the left and the right, then the left again, trying to see what felt right. Both ways looked relatively identical other, it was all just dark back road, empty and nondescript.

"Don't worry, I'm sure it'll be okay... We just have to have hope. Even if we go the wrong way, we'll find it in the end." With that no doubt reassuring comment he turned to the right and nodded. "We'll go this way. Okay?" Of course, there was always the chance of bad luck striking first, in which case he would do everything in his power to keep Chihiro safe. There was no way to avoid dangerous situations, not out here, not anymore. Something as simple as not going in the water wasn't enough: Risks had to be taken, even if a SHSL talent was at stake.

"Hey, why are you shivering so much? Here..." He hadn't noticed it being particularly cold, but she was wearing a skirt, and Komaeda didn't have much experience with those himself. He shrugged out of his jacket and put it over Chihiro's shoulders. "It's important that you stay warm, if you get sick now you'll be more vulnerable than ever." He stepped back a bit and realized that the height difference between them was bigger than he thought. "...Er, sorry about the length, but at least we don't have to go too fast anymore."

“O…Okay!” He nods his head and follows Komaeda towards the back road. He can feel himself start to sweat a little, he’s nervous. He reassures himself, as long as someone was guiding him- someone like the (other) bearer of good luck himself- he would be perfectly fine.
Tense may have been an understatement in Chihiro’s opinion. He was shivering all along the way, gripping tightly onto the bag’s strap. He went along with the other’s signal rather well; sticking against the wall as well as he could when he was lightly pushed, and staying there when he had raised a hand to signal so. He’d waited for Komaeda, not budging an inch, his breath hitched. When he came back, Chihiro almost straightened up in joy and relief, until he’d heard the object whiz past. His immediate reaction was to squeak, duck and cover, shivering all the while- until he’d seen Komaeda grin at him with the bullet in hand.

“Well, at least you’ll have some ammo now…” He gets up, a little bit embarrassed at how he’d become so easily frightened, and skitters along ahead in front of the other, fidgeting along the way. There didn’t seem to be anyone dangerous following them, at least from where he could see from his position in front. They successfully reached the other side, and at this he couldn’t help but sigh.
Luck? Of course- the other did say he had very good luck, after all. If Chihiro himself was lucky to get this far under his protection, he could trust his luck again, seeing as he really had no clue where the beach was located.

“I…I’m really sorry, but I don’t know where it is. I’ll count on your luck to help! Surely if you believe in it that much, it’ll point you…us towards the right path.”

hmph. telling me you'll take his place and then calling my response inappropriate? smh..
You didn’t agree anyway! And making that kind of thing public would force people to think of scenarios that no SHSL talent should be subjected to when the focus is someone like me.
