modern   day   thomas   is   perhaps   the   healthiest   version   of   him   because   once   he   &   lucille   were   separated   ,   he   received   not   only   the   parental   love   he   needed   from   his   aunt   ,   but   massive   amounts   of   therapy   as   well.   he   does   not   collect   his   sister   when   she's   released   from   the   asylum   &   they   are   very   much   estranged.   he's   also   attending   university   to   become   an   engineer.

❝   i've   been   working   on   this   clay   harvester   for   several   years.   the   design   is   incredibly   special   to   me.   aside   from   prospective   investors   &   my   own   sister   ,   no   one   has   laid   eyes   on   my   notes   or   my   earlier   designs.   ❞   the   notebooks   in   his   hands   are   held   protectively   ,   as   if   all   the   riches   in   the   land   were   kept   within   those   scraps   of   scribbled   paper.   after   a   beat   ,   thomas   finds   himself   offering   the   notes   over   to   the   other   gentleman   ,   an   action   that   can   only   be   attributed   to   the   high   level   of   trust   he   must   have   for   the   other.   ❝   i   have   heard   of   your   work   &   i   must   ask   your   opinion.   i've   had   trouble   with   certain   parts   of   the   mechanism   ,   but   i   am   unsure   if   i   should   start   over   or   simply   remove   certain   parts   &   try   once   again.   your   opinion   would   be   most   appreciated.   ❞

i   will   shut   up   soon   but   nothing   makes   me   happier   seeing   edith   stab   lucille   with   the   pen   her   father   made   her   moments   after   her   confession   to   killing   him.   that   is   justice   in   the   best   way.

of thomas’ three wives   ,   enola was the one he had an actual attraction to   &   he didn’t want his sister to kill her   ,   but he was too afraid to go against her. so instead   ,   he’d   ‘   pretend   ’   to poison her tea   ,   wanting to delay her death. he wasn’t home when she finally did die   ,   but he assumes she eventually succumbed to the poisoning.
