Also, during recess, if kids were in trouble you had to “sit on the wall” as punishment and not have recess. I would sit there to read my book, because that’s what I wanted to do for recess.

They’d ask me how long I was on the wall, I’d tell them that oh no, I’m not in trouble, I just want to be here. Then I would get in trouble for not being in trouble. This happened routinely
