so a random little blurb iâve been thinking about before i fuck off this laptop to go to bed.
something that has been weighing heavily on katyaâs conscience since first entering motherhood (and also, like, the entire reason she rejected motherhood in the first place) is this conflict she has about the kind of legacy sheâs setting up for & eventually leaving to her daughter pharaoh. because at first, katya became involved with drug dealing as a method of survival â even finding herself as the right hand to a sizable drug + weapons network that circulated a handful of states in the east coast had been survival, because she was literally working under her ab*ser for like. a long time.
then following the shift in power dynamic, where now sheâs the main one running said network when she is still totally not fucking prepared or even entirely enthusiastic about / wanting this new position??? it sort of became easier for katya to rationalize this like:Â âokay. we donât have to worry about our next meal or bills or mommy working two jobs on next to no sleep. our brother can go to college. we can take vacations. we can feed everyone on the team. i can do what i desperately needed as a kid & help other poor black and brown kids like me.â and everything was good for the last six years!
but now that she actually has a child. itâs like:Â âholy shit. i could fucking die one day. my daughter could be without a mom. my mom could be without a daughter. my siblings donât know a life without me.â as opposed to:Â âwhen i die, whoâs going to be the one i give all this to? who do i actually trust thatâs competent enough to run this shit without fucking it all up except damon?â â and even when considering the idea that she will live into her older years with retirement, that doesnât leave her settled. because she still worries about the day pharaoh realizes what her mother does in her âbusiness meetingsâ all day. what funds her future. what keeps the lights on for the whole vaughn family. the day any enemies she has ever decides to make an attempt on her own mother or her daughter or her siblingsâ lives as a means of getting to her. what happens when she grows up and she develops bakariâs mentality and decides she wants to be just like her mother.
idk. just fucks her up at night once sheâs done reading the very hungry caterpillar to a one year old, u know.

as i nagged abt last night, hereâs an update on the vaughn cinematic universe for those still has in love with the siblings as i am. (cue every follower on @hostilitics coming together to beat me the fuck up)
katya vaughn is now a mother to her one year old daughter pharaoh. she currently remains a semi-notable figure for her philanthropic efforts throughout harlem â she regularly donates to many schools in harlem, especially focusing on funding food, after school programs, and clothes for lower income families as well as funding public libraries, openly supporting STEM programs being established (primarily dedicated to her youngest brother niâkyah), and donating to local womenâs shelters across the boroughs. underground, the lost boys cartel continues to do well in regards to their drugs & weapons trade internationally and has officially solidified her status as kingpin among other notable kings at the table, especially in the years following the hostile takeover of the cartel from blu. in spite of this, she is getting a little bored soâŚsis is considering purchasing & funding her own art gallery. for art. among other things. (in other wordsâŚaspiring artists / art forgers are welcome among her ranks!)
damon vaughn is a father of two and continues to own & operate his nightclub in harlem, 92ndâs. itâs home to live music and performers across the country â a lot of up & coming musicians often get rather large spotlights as the headliner of the night at this club. (i also personally headcanon that pavati luca performs every first friday of the month, and unlike many of her other bosses, she is very well compensated for this. bc i canât resist my own muses being connected to each other sometimes.) aside from this, though, damon also remains as katyaâs secondhand & the main enforcer within the lost boys cartel. soldiers are often the ones most likely to deal with him face to face over katya, as he is and has always been the muscle to her brains.
it is also worth mentioning that 92ndâs is very much established as switzerland in terms of conflict: it is widely known as a neutral location. though damon holds âbusiness meetingsâ after hours within the club, the unspoken rule of no violence has remained in place since damon was nearly killed leaving his club due to an unrelated drive-by meant for another target. itâs the only way damon really gets any peace of mind knowing that the people who come to 92ndâs for entertainment will never have to worry about their safety while within the block, only enjoyment. in contrast, bakariâs shop swaveyâs is not necessarily seen in this same light and does not fall under the âno assassinationsâ rule â this has nothing to do with bakari personally, however. itâs simply that damon has been involved in the streets much longer than bakari has, and damon has developed a reputation that many people respect. (i imagine this has nothing to do with katya. damon has just been an admirably respectable enforcer, as well as a rather terrifying one when angered.)
reynelle vaughn is a mother to her six year old daughter naima and currently remains in IT / computer work & is employed at a major tech company primarily operating in security. however, she is technically within the lost boys payroll â she is very much responsible for being a reliable source of information on all things necessary, as well as crucial on running surveillance and erasing digital footprints if needed. her affiliation with the cartel is largely unknown though, as her work allows her to remain unseen & many often are unaware that she is associated or even related to katya or damon without previous knowledge of the family or on the rare occasion she visits damonâs club.
soraya vaughn, while the only sibling not biologically a child of cartierâs, is affiliated with the lost boys as well as under their payroll, though her role is also one of a lesser known nature. she continues to work at a free health clinic as a nurse, and is currently in medical school studying to become a pediatric surgeon â however, she is known within the cartel as the on-call doctor, often sent primarily after hours to patch up any injured soldiers or associates. (she is also a mother to an eight month old daughter, and i imagine that she is involved in a romantic relationship with a colleague / father of her child. one that may or may not be aware of her affiliation & relationship to the vaughns.)
bakari vaughn is a father to his three year old son and remains the owner & manager of swaveyâs tattoo shop in harlem, as i briefly mentioned once regarding his muse status. he is also a high ranking drugs / weapons trafficker, having been involved in the lost boys since he was fifteen years old, and is working his way up to a business & potential enforcer position similar to damonâs. however, due to the extent of his injuries following his car accident, he is currently incapacitated & is unable to work physically within the swaveyâs building (this role instead being granted to xavier bennett & izidora banks in his absence) â nor is he able to operate his role within the lost boys as well, as he remains in physical therapy following multiple surgeries & now uses a cane to aid in walking when he is mobile. he may meet with some associates when asked, but as of now, he primarily resides at his apartment, often assisted by their mother takima ellis, his sister soraya, or nikita simms, the mother of his son amari.
niâkyah vaughn, our sweet angel child, is now finishing his last year at harvard university & is on track to graduate in computer engineering, as well as being a student teacher while on campus. although he is now in his early 20â˛s and is well aware of his siblingsâ involvement in the lost boys cartel, he himself is not involved in any way nor is he fully knowledgeable of the details of his siblingsâ lives at the request of their mother. i feel like this makes him a likely âtargetâ for civilians, but as far as the underground goes, anyone with a brain knows that to go after someone as neutral as niâkyah is the equivalent of signing a death certificate. his family is very much ten toes behind that, but they are also incredibly respectful & adamant not to discuss work matters around him, whether he so desires to hear it or not. (i actually feel like he kind of views his siblings, especially the older & more openly involved ones, as these larger than life figures when their professional names are used & therefore can separate how he knows them from their professional lives â meaning, he has no idea who katya is, as he only knows her as aelita, the sister who helped care for & raise himself and the rest of the kids. damon is not bishop, heâs simply his older brother that owns a club, is raising his family, & always gives him a fresh cut when asked. he knows nothing of booneâs misdeeds, only that bakari owns a tattoo shop, loves to fight, has definitely given him a few tattoos behind takimaâs back & loves his mother and his son and his siblings.)

Found and old thread of ours from 2 years ago that you want to reply to? doesnât matter, reply! This is a hobby. We should write when we feel like it, not because we must. So let that draft sit in there for a week. Work on those you have the muse for. I do take my time and I donât mind others taking their time because I know it will come. No stressing. Weâre all just having fun.

Quote
i suppose there is also intimacy in the moment when a lover becomes an enemy, though it is tougher to say when it happens. probably when there is a song you canât remember them living inside of anymore, even if both of you curled your lips around the words in a car at some impossible hour of morning, driving away from the place you met. i like my agony threaded together by the same chorus. not everything is Sisyphean. no one ever wants to imagine themselves as the boulder.
