Chapter 22 UPDATE!

This is How Life Strikes - Chapter 22 - Feel Like Home

I’ve discovered Picsart and am having fun with trying out some stuff on my moodboards! I spent a ridiculous amount of time on this one, but I really like how it came out!!

Excerpt:

He leaned back on the bed, a hand rubbing across his forehead. Rey had just closed the door to the bathroom and he was left alone, in the middle of the bed they’d just made love in. He was so fucking screwed.

He reached over on the nightstand and picked up the hotel phone, pressing the button for room service.

“Please send up a full breakfast for two with coffee and tea,” he said tersely once someone answered. 

He pressed the button to hang up and then rang the front desk. It rang twice before he said, “I want you to change the name on this room to Kylo Ren and shift all the charges to my account.” He waited while they responded before adding, “And we’ll be extending the stay for tonight, with late checkout tomorrow.”

Probably The Force Awakens, it was the film that made me watch the others in preparation, although Rogue one is a close second.

What do you like to write / draw / paint the most?

Don't judge me but I love writing angst obviously with a well earned happy ending. This is what I want to write as I've made a promise to myself to focus on what I enjoy reading/writing and not worry about others' opinions.

What got you into Star Wars?

Literally, a lightsaber being stuck into my hand, at 7yrs, and being asked to be Vader to my cousin’s Luke Skywalker. I’d never heard of SW till that moment, and I fell headfirst into the Dark Side and in love with the galaxy far, far away! Its been the one franchise that as been a constant for me, the whole time growing up, and I’ve loved having something SW to look forward to every few years. SW and Reylo lifer! 😁😁😎😎

What made you a Reylo? Lightbulb moment!

“You are not alone.” The minute Kylo/Ben said those words, I was gone for Reylo. No true villain would give a flying fuck about his so-called adversary’s mental and emotional health. When their hands touched? I screeched in that theatre! And I may have yelled at Luke as well. Walked out and hunted for Kylo/Rey fanfics and the rest was history!

Why do you write / make art?

I do because the stories show up and make it impossible for me to do anything else but tell them. They buzz and breed and drown out all other sounds, like manic mosquitoes. They can be quite a nuisance that way, but... *throws up hands* ... I gots to do what they tell me to do! 😆

I like Adam every which way, but my favorites are with facial scruff and slightly shaggy hair - Phillip Altman meets Ben Swolo. Oooh, anytime he is a sweater (or half out of one!) or with his shirtsleeves rolled up. So, um, yeah... 😁

Philip Altman is BAE - he always lightens my heart. And Ben Solo? He owns the frickin’ thing. So yeah, anyone who knows me, knows one ain’t enough 😏

His face - it’s so emotive and expressive! His eyes, those lips, that smile that launches a gazillion ships. His hands, his strong-ass arms. That glorious mane of hair. Have I mentioned them tiddies and the tree-trunk thighs?! Oh, and when he flexes his back, and...

Favorite Star Wars Movie

The Last Jedi was the most beautifully written and shot movie in the entire franchise, with a depth of characterization and exploration of symbolism that was brilliant. This will always rate as the best for me. A close second, and one I will always love, is Empire Strikes Back. That was quintessential Star Wars and an amazingly good watch - snark, action, angst, love, betrayal, rescue, OMFG!

What do you like to write / draw / paint the most?

Until I started writing Reylo, I’d never been able to write fiction. I could never visualize the stories. And once I started, I haven’t been able to stop! I’ll write anything Reylo, I’ll try writing anything at least once (so, yeah, there may be dark fic as well one day!). My style defaults to either mildly angsty, or humour-laced fluff, or depraved smut. So, not sure what that says about me 😂

Blacks, Reds, Greys, slashes of bright turquoise and white and ochre. Blue and white-striped awnings shading an alfresco cafe, overlooking a green ocean. There are so very many in this amazing fandom! The one that I’ve loved from the beginning, though, is The Art of Broken Pieces - a beautifully written Bendemption fic. 

Favorite fic you wrote or favorite art you made

God, this is hard! My recent favorites are Brooklyn Bridge Blues, Caught Between Beats, and A Taste For Two - I like that I’m able to explore a variety of stories and emotions through them. I’m most proud of Confidences To A Stranger because I was able to explore a storytelling medium that I hadn’t before. 

Favorite SW character besides Kylo and Rey

Padme Amidala - she reminds me of my mother and grandmother, both of whom were strong women, who got shit done, while always taking care of their people. She was a queen in more than just name. Han Solo - I am weak for a scoundrel/villain/bad boy in a leather jacket, with a hardass, snarky exterior that hides a heart of gold. The reluctant hero.💙

What got you into Star Wars?

I used to watch Star Wars at my aunt's house during my summer visits. She was fan, so I became a fan. Watching Episode IV, I think what hooked me was the trash compactor scene -- proving I've always been in love with trash (and delicious, banter-y tension).

What made you a Reylo? Lightbulb moment!

I was a late Reylo adoptee. I sensed something in TFA with the Takodana once-over and bridal carry, but I really had a hard time coping with Han's death and, in part, the interrogation scene. My lightbulb moment was really when Ben showed up in the hut, pre-hand touch. The fact that he was there listening, /crying/ over her story, made me believe these two would actually end up together.

Why do you write / make art?

I used to write in high school out of boredom. I could finish my work quickly and then I'd struggle with looking busy. So I wrote. My first fandoms were Lost and Law and Order SVU and they gave me the motivation to keep creating. Now I write because I enjoy it and because I need to get the ideas out or they'll keep nagging me.

Oh, hard. I'm going to be controversial here and say Solo: A Star Wars Story.

What do you like to write / draw / paint the most?

I most enjoy writing soft Ben and capable Rey. I'd say my strongest writing is the more emotional stuff, not so much with the fluff. But it honestly depends on what kind of mood I am in. ABO is fun to plot and talk about, but I haven't written too much of it. Writing smut makes me laugh because I feel absolutely ridiculous while doing it.

I'm going to stick with three of my fics here and say: (1) Force Healing is going to happen, (2) Rey is going to wallop Palpatine and send him into the netherworld, and (3) Leia dies. Sorry, loves.

If you were an aesthetic... (colors, images, feels....)

I'm a deep blue, though not royal. More like the ocean when you can't see the bottom. There are no waves, for all is calm and quiet. Peaceful. Something you could stare at for hours and not be able to grasp everything going on underneath because you only get glimpses when the tide rolls out. I'm mighty but non-threatening.

I think I write most productively, especially smut, in public.

I am biased because I also beta'd for it, but "You'll Hear me Howling (Outside Your Door)" by HarpiaHarpyja. Priest Ben and ABO make for a wonderful forbidden love trope combo. Plus the writing is fantastic. More please!

Favorite fic you wrote or favorite art you made

My real favorite fic is a 275k rpg I wrote with another Reylo that won't ever be published. It was such fun and we killed a lot of characters (it was a zombie fic) and put Ben and Rey through many, many obstacles. It was great. Haha. But my favorite published piece? Going with my festive (still in progress) work: Yuletide Neighbors. I wrote it in a whirlwind of activity last December, it's about my Reylo in my hometown of Pittsburgh, and it's probably the longest "slow burn" I've managed yet (which isn't saying much since they slept together within ten chapters lol). It is full of Christmas fluff, but it also has some quieter moments as Ben and Rey get to know one another.

Chapter 10

Ben watched Rey as she sight-read through the piece he had brought her, Beethoven’s Pathetique Movement. It never ceased to amaze him how quickly she learned. This was no beginner’s piece. Most students played for years before they got to this level of song, and Rey had reached in in a number of weeks. It was absolutely astounding. She was playing it for the very first time, and even though it was slow, there were almost no mistakes. It was almost perfect.

When she played the last notes, she did what she always did, holding them there until the sound faded away. She turned to him, biting her lip. He shook his head.

“You’re amazing. You’re playing pieces it takes most students years to reach.”

Her cheeks turned pink. He loved it when she blushed. Maybe that made him weird, but she was so beautiful when her face was pink and she was biting her lip and looking up at him through her lashes.

“You should audition for Juilliard.”

The words spilled out of his mouth before he had thought them through, but now that they were out there, he didn’t want to take them back. She absolutely belonged at a school like Juilliard. It would be a crime for her not to grow her talent. She could go places. She was certainly better than him, though it surprised him that that fact didn’t bother him.

Her mouth popped open and her eyebrows rose. She was silent a moment before snapping her mouth shut and shaking her head. “Don’t tease me like that.”

He scooted of his chair and onto the bench, grabbing her hands and looking her dead in the eye. “I’m not teasing. You’re the best musician I’ve ever met. I’ve told you this many, many times. If you don’t do something with your talent, it’ll be a crime against humanity.”

She pressed her lips together, her eyes sparkling with humor. “A crime against humanity?”

He nodded. “Yes. A crime. You can’t waste talent like yours on playing for tips. You should be gracing stages, playing for thousands.”

What got you into Star Wars?

I'm major sci-fi fan, like hard sci-fi so naturally Star Wars is a part of my life equaly as Star Trek. I don't even remember when i saw it first but since it started its premieres during Christmas time it's a tradition that I go watch it with my dad.

What made you a Reylo? Lightbulb moment!

A year ago I was reading Dramione and that great author had Reylo fics too and I tried thinking it could work as it has similar dynamics and here I am, more active in this fandom than I was ever in Dramione.

Why do you write / make art?

A creative outlet, way to articulate stories that were always in my head, way to relax and have fun and a breath from real life

What do you like to write / draw / paint the most?

Mostly Modern AU but I like trying new genres. I write mostly romantic stories, sometimes porn, I would love to write more crack. Every time I try something new I treat it as a great creative exercise - so far it worked.

I try to stay open minded and not expect anything specific to not be disapionted after. Of course I would love to have bendemption and reylo but I predict it won't be that simple. I will be happy if the story stays consistent and Kylo won't die. The rest we can correct in fanfics ;)

Bright colors, abstract shapes, energetic music, minimalistic and futuristic design, high deconstructed fashion, Gareth Pugh and Vivienne Westwood in one with a hint of Yoji Yamamoto

Empty quiet house, a light music in the background (some lounge, chill house or Asian relaxation music) and a cup of tea or coffee

What got you into Star Wars?

Honestly I never watched the OT because my uncle spoiled it for me when I was like 6 and thought it wasn't worth watching it. Then the prequels came out and I had no idea what was happening but I still watched them. When the new trilogy came out, I realized I never did a full viewing, so I found the movies and watched them one by one each Saturday and just fell in love with the story, the concept of good v. evil, the sci fi elements, the music, and the struggles they face not just as characters, but as human beings.

What made you a Reylo? Lightbulb moment!

I'm a TLJ reylo, and I didn't think there was really anything between them until that shirtless scene and was like.....okay so we going to the dark side. But in all seriousness, it was when they were huddled around the fire, talking over something so raw and emotionally honest that I realized this is real love.

Why do you write / make art?

It's fun! It's so much fun writing characters in different scenarios who, no matter what you put them through, somehow still find a way to be together and fall in love. I will say I would not have written as much if not for the amazing support system I am lucky to have.

What got you into Star Wars?

I was in a depression because I came to the end of the road of my infertility/fertility journey after 5 years....with no success. There was a marathon on TV and it started with TFA. I was hooked, particularly with the Reylo & Finnrey dynamic. I binged on the series.

What made you a Reylo? Lightbulb moment!

The second they met in the forest at Takodana, and then for sure in the interrogation. Cemented with the bridal carry.

Why do you write / make art?

I stumbled across Reylo fanfic looking at aesthetics on google search. I have always dabbled with writing (I have a personal blog), and though maybe I could give it a go.

What got you into Star Wars?

My mom. I'm a second generation geek, grew up on "Lord of the Rings" (the books, not the movies), "Indiana Jones", "Labyrinth" and similar stuff. She had a major crush on Han Solo and we watched the OT at least a dozen times together.

What made you a Reylo? Lightbulb moment!

The bridal carry scene in TFA. Honestly, I'm a sucker for complex villains, complicated relationships, and tropes like Monster in Love and Enemies to Lovers, so it really felt like the ship I've been waiting for all my life.

Why do you write / make art?

I started writing Reylo because I had a very specific idea about the dynamic of their relationship, and I haven't seen it explored in the fandom in that way. Also, it amuses me to deconstruct expectations/romance tropes while at the same time delivering an over-the-top love story. And, well. It helps me exorcise some rather stubborn demons from my past - but that's a whole different ball game.

Is it totally lame to say that the sexiest man alive that I know happens to be my husband?

(HS: He's a lucky guy!)

Which Adam look do you like the best?

I like his unique combo of big, brutish and manly physique with raw vulnerability and emotional intensity. That's kinda typical for all his looks, but perhaps Kylo embodies it the best.

The ears. I'll never forgive them they hid his ears in that scene when he's all intense and wet in the TROS trailer.

I write because I love it! I'm trying to launch a fiction-writing career, which is a slow, terrible process. Writing Reylo keeps me optimistic and hones my skills.
