I mostly just reblog stuff here that I enjoy or want to be able to find later. I may make an original post someday, but who knows?

He is an oracle from another age. Do not ask him questions, for he no longer answers them.

It is for your benefit that they keep Jeeves contained. The idea of besting him should he escape? Sheer foolishness.

fun fact about languages: a linguist who was studying aboriginal languages of Australia finally managed to track down a native speaker of the Mbabaram language in the 60s for his research. they talked a bit and he started by asking for the Mbabaram word for basic nouns. They went back and forth before he asked for the word for “dog” The man replied “dog” They had a bit of a “who’s on first” moment before realizing that, by complete coincidence, Mbabaram and English both have the exact same word for dog.

Art is a sport
One common thing I see among artists who are just starting out is that they are very precious about their work -- ironically, way moreso than experienced artists. They need to get every line JUST right, because in their mind, getting that line just right is what stands between the piece being bad and it being good. I was like that too, for so long that I'm still struggling to catch up because of how it hampered my progress.
Being precious about every line is kind of like a track sprinter starting a run, but then restarting every time their foot lands in any slightly suboptimal way. This is comes off as silly, because we know that the "unit" of what they are doing is a sprint, and that they would make their greatest progress by finishing the full sprints, because that's how they train.
Well, similarly, the "unit" of art is a finished piece. What stands between the sprinter and the time they want isn't 1 individual step, but 1000 sprints. What stands between the beginner artist and making art they like the look of isn't that 1 line, but, i'm sorry to say, 1000 pieces.
Taking note of any mistakes you made afterwards is something done by both the experienced artist and experienced sprinter -- this is healthy and helps you improve. But you can do that later, after you're done.
That line is good enough.

In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, the Pit of 100 Trials does not actually consist of 100 separate rooms. Instead, it is only a few rooms (one for each visually distinct type) and the game uses a lookup table to put different enemies in the room based on the floor number, making the entire Pit much more memory-efficient.
Even though the game never lets Mario progress past floor 100, if cheats or glitches are used to do so, it becomes apparent that the game uses an unsigned 8-bit integer (a variable with a maximum value of 255) for the floor number, but only has table entries up to 100. If any greater floor number is accessed, the table draws from data not intended to be part of the Pit, leading to bizarre results.
One very notable scenario occurs when floor 114 is accessed. After defeating a Goomba (who appears in-battle as nothing, making it an instant victory), the Goomba drops the Boat Mode ability, as an item. Every ability Mario gets actually exists as an item in the game, but Mario never obtains them in that manner. After picking it up, it is correctly added to Mario's status screen and he is able to use it.

The one thing men in the 1700s did right was have long hair they tie back into a low ponytail with a little ribbon and also have a few stray strands at the front. Almost everything else they did that century was inexcusable though
