Dino Valls, a Spanish painter born in Zaragoza in 1959, currently lives and works in Madrid. He is one of the leading figures in Spanish avant-garde figurative art.
He began painting in 1975 during his medical studies at the University of Zaragoza.
His first solo exhibition took place in Zaragoza in 1981. The following year, he received the San Jorge Award for first place in Spanish painting. After graduating in Medicine and Surgery in 1982, he decided to devote himself exclusively to painting.
From his medical studies, Valls retained a penchant for dissection and a fascination with anatomical waxwork. Populating his canvases with figures of both sexes and varying ages, all of whom appear to be suffering from inner pain,
His elaborate painting develops with the methods and techniques of the Old Masters, but focuses on the human psyche.
To satisfy his passion for old master painting, Valls made numerous trips to seriously study the techniques of the old masters in the great European museums.
Currently, the art of egg tempera and the techniques of the Italian and Flemish masters of the 16th and 17th centuries are his favorite techniques.
