I thought I had cracked it, a nice short cut to dealing with my mind. But I was soooo wrong. Ignored emotions don’t just go away, they just build up into a terrifyingly huge creature that is ready to consume everything around it! And that’s what happened, my emotions pulled me down under the surface. I now know, there is NO shortcut, no hack, no quick solution to difficult emotions. And they have not only disappointed me but also put TOO MUCH pressure on the people around me! So I've realised I do need to consciously manage my expectations. A guru (yes, an actual guru!) once told me "Expectations lead to irritation" and this lesson has stuck with me forever. Whether we expect something good or bad of someone, we are setting ourselves up for a version of reality that doesn't exist and therefore setting ourselves up for some kind of awkward emotional, unnecessary and sometimes intensely difficult response.
