“It’s called a spell.” Illidan mutters, not helping the utterly annoyed rolling of his eyes, wondering inwardly how much longer he has to endure the siblings’ despise for something as natural as magic. “And it’s obviously temporary.” “But why—” “Because I let him, Maiev.” Mylenne adds up, seemingly taken aback with her friend’s shock—as if she wasn’t expecting such a reaction from her part. “Illidan had been incredibly helpful tonight, and he certainly did so without any awful questioning in between!” That remark earns a petty snort from Maiev. “Of course he did,” She says in a mocking tone, turning hostile once again. “Helping the poor lady in distress like any good quel aspirant would do.”

Somehow, for reasons he can’t possibly grasp now, she’s not realizing what she’s doing to him. How he’s tethering on the brink of his sanity, how that inner pull between them is making him lose control of himself. How is it she can feel his deep turmoil, but can’t properly see it? Is she so tragically disconnected from her inner core? And is that even possible?

It’s hard to explain and much more instinctive, but the warmth from Illidan’s touch can be comparable to the Moon’s light caressing her skin. Like an inner itch only someone else can scratch—not in a sexual way, and wholly more in a visceral one, a pulling of the blood. Yet it’s soothing like a mother’s embrace, relaxing like the sound of the wind; and above it all, enticing, with that playful tingling coursing through her skin as if a kiss from the most gentle lover. The Goddess’s veins pulse with arcane, it’s from Her blood how their entire civilization was made of. And to Her children, it’s not that simple to just ignore the call of the blood. Dozens of books and fairytales have been made with the tragedies of the ones that, by some miracle, managed to do so. And not for nothing they’ve been called tragedies, after all.

It's been so long, damn! Just wanted to drop by and let y'all know: Starsurge is back bABEYYYYY!!

Last year I dropped an announcement regarding the future of the saga, but couldn't make it through until now. Long story short, I'm currently in a sort of revamp process, and rewriting and reuploading all uploaded chapters - mostly fixing awful typos, old narrative flow and some plot holes I naturally had when I first started developing this universe, back in 2016.

Of course, I'm also reupdating fresh new art with it or rather deleting and replacing that old junk I had in the past lol, for the moment just adding character portraits as they are introduced and presented. I too plan to add at least one art scene in each chapter - and sadly, only on Ao3, sorry FFN users! - but I'm leaving that up for later on my schedule.

I also have 4/5 whole new chapters already in drafts, soooo *rubs hands*, you can surely expect this year to be The Comeback for this saga lol.

Good news right now are: 7 chapters have been reuploaded by now! (August 2023) I'll be sharing them here on individual posts from now on with its respective art, don't worry. Last but not least, this saga is having its 7th birthday in merely a couple of weeks! Expect some little surprises coming up 👀

Rant about fanfiction writing

I was just informed by my brother (who thinks he’s a better writer than anyone else because he has some fancy degree in writing) that fanfiction “doesn’t count” as “real writing” because you aren’t using your own “ideas.”

He doesn’t know that I write fanfiction. He probably wouldn’t have admitted his opinion if her did. But it has pretty much solidified that I will never tell anyone I know in person what I write.

I’ve already been told by several family members that my obsession with a “stupid tv show” is ridiculous and that I’m “too old” to fangirl.

An open letter to fanfic readers

Do not leave criticism in fanfic comments. Even if it’s constructive. Even if you’re “just being honest.” This is not traditional publishing, and you should not treat fic in the same way you treat traditionally published works. AO3 comments are not Amazon reviews.

If you want to offer the author criticism, please follow the steps below:

Contact the author to see if they even want your criticism (their vision and intention might be different than yours; this isn’t for-profit publishing, so there’s a chance the author has no desire to make their fic anything than what THEY want it to be. Moreover, unless you’re some kind of literary genius, it’s possible that they might not give a fuck about your opinion)

If they do, provide it in a private forum so that they have the opportunity to accept or reject your criticism outside the public grounds of AO3 comments (what I mean is: CRITICISM IN COMMENTS IS FUCKING HUMILIATING)

Do not be offended if they don’t accept your criticism

Thank them for their time and for listening to you speak your peace

Some additional notes:

Do not leave negative criticism/hate/wank on a WIP (or, see above: ever). Some people are enjoying the story and negativity might (will) make the author fall out of love with what they’re writing such that they don’t want to finish it. Also, you owe it to the author, who is writing FOR FREE, to hear them out to the end of their story in case they end up fixing what you were criticising. 

Do not leave a comment telling the author why you stopped reading the fic. The author isn’t going to fix it and it’s just going to make them sad and feel shitty. Seriously, these types of comments are everywhere and they help NO ONE.

If you read something in a fic you don’t like, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD JUST STOP READING IT. Please don’t let yourself believe that the way you see fic is the way fic ought to be. Everyone likes different things. It’s okay to exit silently. It’s the polite thing to do. 

Do not point out OOC. Ever. Period. End of story. Interpretation is the entire point of fanfic. If you don’t like someone’s interpretation, DO NOT READ IT. You’re not the IC Police.

Avoid backhanded compliments. Please don’t start a comment with, “To be honest I hated this at first, but…” or anything similar. If there is an insult in your comment that is turned positive somehow, it is still an insult, and it is still hurtful.

Please please please, I am begging you, readers of fanfic, to take into consideration that fanfic authors are not celebrities, even if you think they’re super popular and amazing writers and you get hearts in your eyes when they acknowledge you. If you cut them, they will bleed. If you talk to them, they will listen. If you tell them they suck, they will believe you.

Be kind to fanfic authors. They do what they do because they love to do it. Don’t take that away from them by leaving tactless or rude comments.

3. Most common argument?

Over magic, definitely. No matter how hard she tries, it’s hard for Mylenne to get over her prejudices towards the arcane, and Illidan is pretty reluctant - if not outright against it - to hold back what makes him talented. He’s a sorcerer, he’s one of the best at it, and everyone knows that, why shouldn’t he go making their lives easier? He’s inclined to lit up a fire with a click of his fingers while Mylenne would do the conventional way. While probably in the end she’d admit she’s in the wrong somewhat, it doesn’t truly stop them from arguing about it from time to time. 

22. Who cooks more/who is better at cooking?

Lol, this is Illidan. He’s not The Chef but given his obsession with performing brilliantly in everything he does, he goes out of his way cooking any meal as carefully as he can, stressing himself over every petty detail. I dare say that kinda leads him to compete against Mylie’s friends over getting the Perfect meal for her. And either way, Mylie is a serious danger in the kitchen - it’s best to leave her to hunting rather than cooking anything LOL. 

25. Who needs more assurance?

Welp, again, Illidan does. While Mylie is a very insecure person, she’s more inclined to keep her doubts and fears to herself and not burden her loved ones with her petty assumptions of herself. Meanwhile, Illidan seems to be permanently set on showing off, unconsciously looking at Mylie for reassurance and pretty much craving for her praises and approval.
