Ok sooooo I saw you talking about what would happen if the payday members got infect with the C virus from L4D2 (I think it’s the C virus I consume a lot of zombie media I’m sorry if I’m wrong I know ur a fan too) but like from the Easter egg note in the game (which exists I swear I just can’t find it anywhere) that says something to the effect of “I was robbing the White House and now I’m fighting zombies.” So now I present to you: infection stages based on L4D lore and the Payday Official crossover art!! Times will vary and will be specified within some stages.

Stage 0: The hospital. Bain knows they are infected, but doesn’t want to reveal the information yet to keep spirits high and tension down.

Stage 1: depending on which stage the infection itself is at (mutations wise) people will fall at different times. Due to lack of information on non-bite victims (see: “I saw them turn” graffiti on certain maps, ranging from 4 days to 5 minutes depending on the mutation, however it seems to be only applicable to the bitten form, not the Stage 0 version, which is assumed to be airborne, due to the coughing.)

More immuneo compromised heisters will fall first. I am no doctor, so these will be in no particular order, but will all effect the immune system within the heisting group: Age, smoking, drinking, chronic stress, nutritional deficiencies, poor diets, and lack of sleep.

According to my own personal list, the most at risk folks in the gang would be: Dallas (smoking, age, drinking, stress, probably doesnt eat great let’s be so fr), Jiro (age), that biker guy I can’t think of bc it’s like midnight (age he’s the cannon oldest), Joy (you cant tell me she doesn’t sustain herself off monster and ramen so bad diet and nutritional deficiencies), Jacket (Extreme Stress(Tm), lack of sleep (he can’t sleep in that couch with that arcade machine in there on all the time)), Hoxton (smoking, drinking, eats like a British person), and the actual GOAT, Aldstone (I’m sorry but he is in fact old, though he is probably least at risk due to him staying pretty fucking well fed and resilient, if we assume he is the guy who takes care of the safehouse raids when the gang doesnt step in).

Least at risk would be probably Sokol (his athletics background means he’s probably got a good handle on his health), Chains (just trust me on this one they are a different breed those military men), Bodhi (partially bc I love his vibes this is super biased) and maybeee duke? (Workout equipment) and John wick but I almost forgot he existed, but like… he’s just the main character I don’t know what to tell you. The rest teeter on the edge. Especially wolf? But he’s just all over the place.

People will start coming down with colds at this stage.

Stage 2: Fever. Refer to above for how fast people will fall. People will also start to get more hungry, but are able to be satiated. At least one person will not fall due to the L4D2 note. Bain would probably start to panic.

Stage 3: (this is where the fun stuff I know comes into play) Heisters will start complaining about pain, specifically in the base of the skull and spin in between the shoulders. Minor, discolored swelling will start. Can be confused for very bad bruises if uninformed. It is up to you if Bain has told them what is happening yet or if he is keeping it a secret to try and find a cure by himself and get it to them before things become irreversible.

Stage 4: Swelling in the brain stem and pressure on the Amygdala will cause emotional disregulation , while pressure in the Medulla Oblongata can cause trouble breathing, standing, and loss of motor functions. This can be mistaken for insanity. Salivation will also be increased unnaturally due to pressure on various parts of the sympathetic nervous system. This will be the most obvious sign of swelling due to the rest of the parts being much less noticeable, but other things such as eye twitches, irregular breathing, heartbeat irregularities and problems with digestion.

Stage 5: the pustules will be growing to unnatural sizes, and pressure on all the brain, specifically the Pineal Gland, will cause a spike in specifically aggression. At this point, infected should be bound. If they can talk (some L4D zombies can) they will be asking relentlessly for help for the pain and food. Stage five will probably be where the aforementioned loss of sanity from both the guys and Bain will set in. For extra angst, you Mastermind shippers can make it so that Dallas is the first to fall to this stage, which is tbh probably irreversible.

Stage 6: Refer to Payday official crossover art. Pustules will have covered the body, which has all but died (grey skin, bloodshot eyes, puffy lips, looks like bloated corpses most of the time (second stage of rot looking head ass mofo)).

Stage 7: Sorry Bain.

So sorry for the crazy word salad, but zombie infections are one of my fav things to learn about (some may call it a special interest), even if they aren’t real. Anyways, have a wonderful day!! Thanks for reading this if you did!!

Also, actually SUCH perfect timing, since I've been getting that L4D brain worm again. And it's caused me to actually think about this silly lil' AU again (err, whatever you call it)

Holy fuck, you put A LOT of thought into the virus itself. Actually made me deeply think about how fucked you'd be in a Green Flu outbreak scenario.

Having it set in 2 would be soooo much more extravagant and action packed. Just more clowns to watch suffer. And the probability rate of being immune is so low, that it's interesting to think about who would be the one to "survive." (if they, yah know, actually make it out alive)

Sadly, I've picked PD:TH just so my poor little brain has fewer things to think about. (Fear I couldn't do justice for the full crew. The main four I have more hope in representing properly.)

Also, since I want to make this a mini comic (kinda like the L4D comics themselves) It'd just be TOO MUCH to draw and write out.

BUT!!! Please please PA-LEASE feel free to build upon what's thrown out here. This is me lighting a fire for more zombies. I LOVE ZOMBIES!!! I WANTS MORE ZOMBIEZ!!! We need more creativity and silly shiz out there. Boo to one dimensional thinkinggggg. Not even just zombie related stuff, need more wacky ideas in general here.

Maybe next month I'll make it a goal to focus more on this comic idea and get it rolling. Maybe... have it ready for Halloween? (Gives me the rest of July to binge L4D. For umm... "research" yeah, yeah, that.)
