Defeated—
Danny is the victim again, because they think he’s the villain.
“I’ll never give up on you.”
⟢ Sketch of Danny being pinned down by the hand of a GiW agent. Pinterest inspiration doesn’t do me any good. This sat in my head for a while now and it needed to get out.

DannyMay2025 Day 3: Potential
"Mr. Fenton, I want you to understand what I see in you. Where you see a failure, someone who can't keep his grades up. Someone with horrible attendance, and when you are in class, you can't stay awake. Where you see weakness, laziness, a future at Nasty-" The English teacher started his inspirational pep talk but found himself cut off by the very person he was trying to inspire.
"You can stop there, Mr. Lancer, and just go to the point." The black-haired teen said, a downtrodden look on his face.
"Sorry Danny. As I was saying, where you see all of...that, I see unfulfilled purpose. You have so much potential, Danny. And I would hate to see you squander it. You need to spread your wings, and you can't do that here in Amity Park. I want, no, I need you to do better. Do you understand? And cheating on the Career Aptitude Test isn't going to do that. All you'll get is expulsion, and not able to get a job even at the Nasty Burger.
You have so much potential, Danny. More even than your sister. You dream of being an Astronaut, but you won't get there with your grades and attendance. You could easily get the best grades in the class. I know you have it in you. You need only apply yourself more." Mr. Lancer explained this to the teenager standing before him. It was Saturday, and he was the only teacher here, monitoring detention with Danny Fenton, the only student serving detention. This was his second chance, his last chance, to take the C.A.T. and prove that he had what it takes to get out of Amity Park someday.
"I know, and I am trying. I just...It's hard to be a teenager these days. You don't know what I'm going through, and you can't even begin to understand. Nobody can. I want more than anything to be an Astronaut, but I don't think I ever will. It doesn't matter. I just need to know that I can get a score higher than the lowest score ever." Danny just kicked his foot against the desk, the rubber coated tip of the shoe making a dull thud against the wood with each soft kick. "Nobody knows how hard it is to be me."
"Mr. Fenton, I know more than you think I do. A lot more. I don't know it from your perspective. But I know that it's hard to go through so much at once. Your body is changing, your hormones are doing things you don't understand, and ha-" Again, the man was cut off, this time by a very red-faced Danny.
"I am NOT talking about the birds and the bees with you. Just because you've been a teenager before, it doesn't mean you know what I'm going through." Danny interjected, stopping a very uncomfortable talk before it could get much further than this. Mr. Lancer realized that Danny didn't seem to be getting what he meant. The man thought to himself that this would probably be the only chance he'd get to say this. No one else was in the room to overhear, and Danny couldn't find an excuse to leave.
"Danny, I know about your extracurricular activities. I know why you, Samantha, and Tucker are always running into danger whenever." Mr. Lancer spoke with a sigh. It took Danny a second, but his eyes grew wide. The teen sputters, his brain trying to come up with excuses that his mouth couldn't speak. His heart raced, and fight or flight filled his bloodstream with adrenaline. Mr. Lancer surely would tell his parents. He'd be taken to the lab, strapped to the table, and torn apart molecule by molecule. He didn't hear when the teacher began to say his name. In fact, he couldn't be pulled out of his mind until the teacher threw some water on his head.
Any icy blue stare met Mr. Lancer's concerned gaze as Danny returned to the present. He went to shuffle on his feet, only to hear a crunch of ice instead. His emotions had caused him to lose control of his powers, and his feet had frozen to the floor. "How did you figure it out?" Danny asked quietly as he looked away. Surprisingly, the first response he received was a laugh.
"Really? Danny Fenton. Danny Phantom. Same build, same voice, same hair. You'd have to be completely mindless to not get the similarities. I've known for a while. Why do you think you stopped getting truancy detentions? I want you to know that I'm thankful for everything you've done for this town and every person in it." Mr. Lancer. You are a hero Danny, and that's why I pulled you aside for this chat. A hero knows when to take time for themselves. When to recover and let someone else handle the small stuff for a while. You can do all those things you dream of, Danny, and all those things that you have the incredible potential to do. If only would apply yourself to your schoolwork." Mr. Lancer continued. As he spoke, the teen would turn back to face him, and by the end of it, he was smiling.
"You're right Mr. Lancer. I should be able to keep my grades up. And I'm going to do better. Starting with this test." Danny spoke with a confidence he hadn't had in a while, making Mr. Lancer smile.
"You could always let the Red Huntress take care of some of the ghosts so you can get your homework done." He suggested to his student. Danny looked at him, shocked for only a second, and then said, "You know that's Valerie, right?"
"GREAT GATSBY!"
