OMG HIII AHHH IM SO EXCITED FOR YOU I ALSO LOVE ANNOTATING BOOKS

I usually annotate classics or historical fiction. My fav that I’ve annotated and my fav book ever is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I’m in love Austen and her works (even tho I’ve only read two of her books). It’s actually the first book I’ve ever fully annotatted.

Rn I’m reading The Poppy War by RF Kuang and annotating it too ����😋

For tips when annotating, I personally use a gel pen. I use the 0.38 mm black gel pen from muji to underline rather than highlighting. My Personal preference bc just as you said, the highlighters bleed if you don’t draw the line fast enough. Ballpoint pens don’t always write the greatest, especially if the spaces in between lines or the margins are too small. If not enough space, use sticky notes to write your thoughts and then stick it somewhere inside near the line you’re writing abt. For straight lines I also have a small ruler that I bring in a little pencil case with additional little sticky notes, tabs, and pen.

I also usually test materials on a spare piece of paper or a tiny corner of a page that doesn’t have any actual writing to see if it’ll bleed thru or smudge etc.

As for the tabs, before even reading the book I try to do research on what the books I’m reading are about and why I want to annotate them eg for are you casually reading for fun? Are you hoping to do literary analysis? Etc etc

based on this and what I want to learn after I finish, then I come up with designations for my tabs. eg if I’m reading a book for fun, I’ll annotate for quotes I think are funny, sad, favourite quotes I have from the book, and give them a designated tab colour. If I’m reading because I want to analyze it further on top of reading for fun, I’ll tab for quotes that are plot relevant, indicate a characters personality, indicate socioeconomic factors and disparities such as discrimination and wealth, how different groups of people are treated etc etc

At the end of the day, there is no one right way to annotate. Don’t worry abt the amount of tabs you put or how neat or messy your annotations are. The important part is that you have fun!

ive only just started but its been very fun so far 🥹 and this is very helpful! i have my copy of pride and prejudice like very close to me rn actually but i havent touched it in months… so maybe attempting it again and annotating it would be nice 🥰 aaaa love the tip abt testing things first, i tested my highlighters on the like last page of the book so now i have a line there…..🫠

and ooo remembering why im annotating is so smart also!! like currently i wanna do it just for funsies but def smart to have different focuses/tabs when doing analyses etc…. and remembering to just have fun and do it for myself hehe!! ive so far not like actually done/written a lot, kinda just underlined a bit here and there…. but i feel like it might get more further into the book (& if i were to re-read it later)?? but its been much fun so far so im v v happy 🤭🤭🤭

wanted to try annotating a book. decided it would be fun to start with "the secret history" bcs ive been dying to read it. went and bought highlighters to match my tabs. turns out the highlighters were more expensive than id thought but i was okay bcs they were good colors.

turns out they bleed through the pages 🫠 i didnt even realize that could be a possibility beforehand aaaaaAaA im gonna cry

(this is also me asking for tips abt annotating, would be greatly appreciated 🥰 and maybe esp tsh! like if you have tips on what things to focus on when annotating it? esp as a first-time reader? 🤭)

ah im pretty sure he had testicular cancer! so so scary but he says that things are looking good, he's done with chemotherapy (thats why his hair fell out) and hopefully things will keep going in the right direction 🙏

hmmm wellllll..... okay so based on the fact that i've loved seb for a couple of years now, i still have a pretty positive view of him. i think he seems like a very sweet guy, pretty genuine and not really afraid to say what he thinks and so on. (and likeee it's so silly but i value his friendship w pepe so highly... and i think that if someone so sweet as pepe has a best friend then that best friend is likely very good too!! idk when i think of seb i just think of him and pepe in spa last year (i witnessed this with my very own eyes) and the fact that pepe probs was heartbroken to walk away from yet another round pointless (double dnfs even)... but seb chatted with him and made pepe so giggly and happy even after such a horrible race idk!! just his capability to make pepe so happy makes me happy too!!!!)

on the other hand though, we have everything that happened with hermes..... i mean we can never know what actually happened, but ofc i believe a lot of parts of her side of the story. it sounds like he wasn't a great boyfriend – but it doesn't sound like he was a terrible person. if we're considering the cheating rumors to be true, then yes that's not good for his person, but man idk there's just something about hermes... something that makes me not find her very trustworthy? like when comparing her story to ebba's i just... there's one side i trust a bit more 😶

but to be completely honest, i do find it kinda hard to know where i should stand when it comes to these things. because i think (if we're assuming he did cheat): "well, that's what he did in a relationship. it doesn't have anything to do with his racing career, which is what i focus on. i don't care about their romantic lifes"... but then again, i'm talking about drivers and relationships a lot more than maybe i should, so saying that i don't care is bs... seems like i only care when things are going well and people are happy, which is kind of fair though, no? like im so happy for paul and iris, pepe and daniela (was literally abt to post pepe's comments on her posts the other day)...... but there's a difference, isn't there? i just can't formulate what i mean 😭

hii saw you were answering some asks so I decided to say hi life’s definitely been busy but it’s finally slowing down my bestie gets home from college this weekend so we are going to have to do something and uh I watched the indy 500 that was uh something I watched like 15 minutes of the monaco f1 gp and the chasing the dream monaco (omg that pile up my god) and ooo I watched the f1 academy doc I love my girls my faves are abbi,the al qubasi sisters,chloe chamber,dori,maya,lia,tina and ella lioyd loved the clips of the girls hanging out looked like they all were having lots of fun
