the amount of scolding kai had to endure after he came home, left him upset.

he opened the door and immediately came to sight of his four elders, expectantly looking at him. "where's y/n?"

oh, his next words will surely take a blow on them. "i-, i don't think y/n and i should spend time anymore. she likes me and i don't return her feelings like that."

mixtures of "WHAT?", "dude what the hell" and "beee so for real" spread throughout the room, kai sat down on the couch with his hyungs, expecting comforting words, but-

"dude, you can't be serious? you ruined your relationship with y/n, because apparently you don't feel the same way? i know you're insecure sometimes and unsure of your feelings but you like her. whenever we talk you bring her up, i was annoyed by it at some point but i knew how much she meant to you so i let it be. don't be a dumbass, kai." taehyun finished, sighing one last time.

"you don't know how i feel, don't fucking act like you do. she's nothing to me" kai spat, his words more venomous than ever.

he got up to go to his room after that, taking one last glance at his best friends infront of him.

he was furious, that was for sure. he couldn't understand why his friends had to meddle in his life like that, he could handle it on his own. though he knew he went kinda far and said words he didn't mean, (you were definitely not nothing to him) he didn't want to talk to them as for now.

kai never argued with his friends, so he didn't know what to do, but to rot in bed for a little while. he couldn't even talk to you cause he broke your heart!

the boy tried to act like it was your fault, for falling in love, for thinking he'd like you back. deep down, he knew, that some kind of feelings did in fact, linger for you.

not that he would ever admit.

truth to be told, he thought his heart had belong to yuna. though after their first date, he realised she wasn't what he wanted, she wasn't you. as he kept seeing her, the guilt ate him up, and she knew too. that's when she ended things, kai told this story to his friends, ...without the part where he didn't even like her.

so, what the hell is wrong with him? why did he reject you? it's so clear to everyone that he wants to be with you. he needs to let you know too.

you haven't been doing well. after listening in on his conversation soobin, you obviously knew he wouldn't want you, but still, it hurt.

so when you've spent the entire night crying your eyes out, you don't expect to hear the sound of the ringing of your doorbell at 3am.

you considered not getting up at all. probably just a prank, right? but with the loneliness consuming your mind, you already absentmindedly made your way to the door

"kai."

as soon as you see his face you want to leave. run out of the house, even if its yours. the thought of slamming the door into his face hurts you, seems too cruel. after all, he's still the same boy you fell in love with, even after getting hurt.

"y-y/n.. i-.. can i come in?" he stutters.

you study his face, not knowing what his intentions were. he walks to the couch you've shared endless amounts of time on, laughing together and you cant help but think if you ruined it for good.

as you both sit down, he expectantly looks at you, didn't he initiate this? "kai, what is it? i know how you feel, we don't need to talk any more about this." you shrug, acting as nonchalant as possible.

"no, y/n... it's.. i made a mistake." he takes a deep breather in between his sentences. "i like you. fuck, i know i cant say this but i love you. i always did, i don't know why i acted the way i did.. i guess i was scared. i'm an asshole, i know and i understand if you can't forgive me but.. i just need you to know, that it's always been you. i'm sorry." he finishes

you're speechless. out of everything that could've happened, you didn't expect this, not at all. (which doesn't mean you're not excited about it!)

"kai.. i.. i love you too but i need some time. suddenly you don't like me and then you do? i forgive you but.. i need to think about this." you say.

he gives you a look which.. you don't know how to quiet read. is he glad? or angry at you? you start becoming nervous again until he starts speaking. "okay. that's fine. take all off the time you need"

he finally shows his signature smile again, the one that makes you weak in the knees, the one that makes you want to kiss him stupid.

he indulges you in a warm hug and you cant help feel your heart beating the same way that it always has for him, and for the first time that night, you giggle.

"spend the night?"

summary: you were soo sure confessing to hueningkai, would end up in a cute relationship between you two.

warnings: angst lol, like 1k words

it hasn't been long since you started talking to kai, your little crush growing stronger with each conversation you held.

you were pretty sure you might have a chance with him, the way he softly spoke to you, or how he always made sure you felt comfortable. but after all, he's always been nice, so it's kinda hard to tell if it's actual interest.

however, you will try to shoot your shot.

you've all planned it through, you spent time with kai multiple times a week but these past weeks you did everything for him to see your full potential. you went as far as trying a new make up style, dressing up cutely or wearing your hair in a way you knew he'd like.

you remember one peculiar moment that got engraved in your mind.

it was one of your usual hang outs with kai, you guys wanted to meet at the arcade but he insisted on picking you up, like the gentleman he is. with kai, there never was an awkward silence between you both, you could talk about anything with him.

at the arcade he showed you his 'video game skills', he was kinda bad but not that he would admit that. but then it came to show his ultimate talent. the claw machine.

within a few tries he'd win whichever plushie he had his eyes on. "kai, will you show me your tricks?" you had asked, jealous of the multiple plushies he won.

he laughed at your pout "sure" he positioned himself behind you "see, you gotta do it like that"

god knows you paid no attention to his words. the way your back was pressed against his broad chest and the way he guided your hands distracted you more than anything. you could literally feel his breath on your neck, you thought you were going to faint till suddenly huening kai's squeaking brought you back to reality, you (it was actually mostly him) had won a plushie.

"y/nie, you did it!!" he hugged you, you couldn't breath, you weren't sure if it was because of his tight grip or the because of how strongly you could smell his cologne while he was wrapped around your body.

after that situation you always seemed to be nervous around kai, sure, you've always liked him but the thought of confessing made you anxious. till you finally gathered up the courage.

you were supposed to have a picnic today, that's why you're preparing a bunch of food, cutting several fruits into heart shapes, it would be obvious that you had put a lot of effort into it. that thought made you smile, a kind soul like him appreciates things like that.

you were quite confident, you and kai grew close in such a short time, you spent a lot of time together, you were pretty sure he'd like you back. you've never discussed things like relationships with him, the subject just never coming up.

you planned to pick him up at his dorm, where you usually spent a lot of time together at. yeonjun opened the door for you, smiling at you. you were pretty sure he knew about your crush on kai, it was pretty obvious, to anyone but kai.

you truly didn't mean to eavesdrop but at the mention of your name, it came natural.

kai was heard standing in the kitchen with soobin, conversating about, well, you.

"are you going to confess to y/n? she seems to like you as much as you do." soobin teased him, kai just laughed it off, his next words making your heart drop.

"you know i don't like her like that, i still have my eyes set on yuna."

oh. oh!

"dude what? yuna rejected you, move on with someone you actually enjoy spending time with." soobin replied, his smile fading almost as much as yours did.

"whatever man, i'll keep going. y/n's probably there soon" kai sighed, making his way out of the kitchen, his eyes meeting yours.

"hi kai! shall we go? you look good." you managed to speak, you have no idea where that confidence came from but you would rather act like nothing happened.

his face has immediately brightened up and that smiles that has you weak in your knees showed up on his beautiful lips.

"right, let's go!" he laughed, taking your hand. he always did this, making you feel like you're the one he wants but, oh, apparently not.

the way to your picnic spot was quieter than usual, he did talk a lot whether it would be about a new pokémon game or a new song he learned on the piano. you were interested, truly. but you couldn't pay that much attention on his words.

while putting out all of the food from your picnic basket, it was obvious by now, that something was wrong with you. kai noticed, being worried as always. "y/n what's wrong? you look kinda pale, let me put out the rest of the food, lay down."

"i'm okay, just kinda feeling funny." you denied. fuck, he was making this really hard.

the words that earlier left his mouth keep crossing your mind, unable to focus on his words.

"love, please. you can talk to me, i don't want you to be upset." he stroked your hand while saying that. that was definitely the last straw.

"f-fuck! this is exactly it! you call me love, you hold my hand, you make me feel like i'm the only girl that's on your mind but then you say you don't like me that way? what do you want me to think? i didn't know this is how friends act." by now, you were sure you felt your eyes water, tears slowly dropping down.

kai kept silent, staring at you. the realisation hit him, that you must have heard his conversation with soobin earlier.

"y/n, i'm sorry i gave off that impression but i-i just don't like you the way you want me to." he said, voice sounding much more monotone now.

"i think i should go."

you really tried to make a move on him, really. but somehow you didn't have enough courage, as you keep telling yourself, "maybe he will notice me first!!"

well, it was kind of true. on october 3rd he even asked you what day it was.

"hey, what day it is?" he turned around, looking at you with his beautiful, big, brown eyes, if you looked even closer, you could see the entire milky way in his eyes.

love sick y/n stuttering out a small "it's october 3rd." your new favorite day.

after first confessing your little crush on huening kai to your newfound friends, they quickly made it known that he was off limits, being wonyoung's ex boyfriend. still, you were allowed to look at him right?

everyday when you would walk into your shared class with him, you would do only what you were permitted to do, ogle the pretty boy sitting in front of you. you hoped that he'd talk to you but you didn't actually expect it! so when he turned around at the end of the class instead of immediately leaving like he usually does, it was a shocker.

"hey y/n, me and my friends are throwing a small party this weekend, i'm not really a party guy, so i'd enjoy your company. will i see you there?"

"yeah! of course.. totally!" you didn't mean to sound THAT excited but who could blame you?

after that you rushed home right away, trying to throw cute outfits together and thinking about how to do your hair. you didn't tell your friends about your encounter with kai, maybe it was better that way.

the day of the party came withing the blink of an eye and you couldn't be more excited. after a final look in the mirror, you decided you were ready and left the house excitedly. at your arrival you were greeted by yeonjun, he was one of kai's bestfriends, his house was pretty big, which was the reason most parties were always hosted at his house. the faint smell of alcohol entered your nostrils quickly, you weren't sure if you were actually about to drink tonight, the idea of it never seeming very appealing to you. maybe you would just look for kai first.

you walked around the big living room eyes scanning for the brunette boy, stumbling across a few drunk bodies. gosh, were you just late or do these people get drunk within 5 minutes? everything about this party was overwhelming, the huge house, the amount of people, the reek of various alcoholic drinks. where was kai?

"y/n! i didn't know we'd see you here!" you turned around, to see sullyoon, one of your shared friends with wonyoung and yuna.

"oh, hi sullyoon! i got invited by this guy, not sure. but i'm glad to see you, are the others here too?" you lied about the fact that kai had invited you, you couldn't risk loosing your friends but at the same time you liked him too much to resist him.

"yeah actually, i think wony went to talk to kai, they seemed really close earlier and yuna is just grabbing more drinks for us" she innocently smiled at you.

what. why would she talk to him? they broke up for a reason, now you weren't sure what to do. do you start looking for them or just pretend this never happened and go home?

you decided on the first option, it wasn't hard to not see wonyoung, wherever she was there would be a bunch of people trying to hit on her. she had so many options why does she feel the need to go back to him?!

you said your goodbyes to sullyoon, telling her you would try to talk to the guy who invited you, which wasn't exactly a lie.

you continued to roam around the house, seeing two familiar faces, talking to eachother, they didn't exactly appear to be having a friendly chat. you observed as she tried to get closer to him, batting her eyelashes at him and you could agnize the discomfort in his eyes, watching him run off.

you don't know what possessed you in that moment but you went to follow his steps. he definitely knew his way around, as he went from corridor to corridor, walking up what seemed like thousands of stairs, until you arrived at some sort of balcony.

he opened the door, you had expected him to close it behind him. but he held it open.

"why are you following me?"

you stayed silent at that, looking at him signalling for you to come outside with him and sit on the expensive chairs the balcony's been equipped with. "are you okay?" you dared to ask, not quite sure what to talk about in this kind of situation.

"i don't know. wonyoung tried to win me back again, using all kind of excusing for leaving me the last time. i'm not attracted to her anymore but it just hurt. i don't want anything to do with her." he confessed to you, honestly filling his voice, like he had some sort of point to prove to you.

you sighed, you haven't known her that long but knew that when she wanted something, her mind was set on it. "she can be a huge deal, i know. i don't think she will leave you alone that fast but it's best to just ignore her, it's the only way to get her to stop. and then, it will be all good!" you tried your best to cheer him up, and he looked up at you, smiling at your enthusiasm.

"you're right, i will be okay" he chuckled. "but.. to be honest, i'm just scared that she'll try to hurt you. i'm sorry to talk about this, since it must be embarrassing for you but she mentioned your crush on me. now that i rejected her she will try to get rid of you, thinking it will do something."

"oh.. wait, so you know? i-.." embarrassment filled your body to the brim, how the hell were you supposed to look at him now?? your first instinct was to stand up, but he went to stop you. "y/n, it's okay. i like you too and i think, if we really try this out we can make it work. what do you think hm?" he hopefully asked. you looked at his hand caressing your's, beginning to smile again.

"i think.. we can do this." you giggled. the moonlight hit you perfectly, enhancing your facial features and kai couldn't help but stare. "w-what's wrong? do i have something on my face, god i keep embarrassing mys-"

"y/n, can i kiss you?"

you thought you would faint at that moment. his eyes reflecting the stars, attentively looking at you, waiting for your response.

you believed you forgot how to speak right now, desperately nodding for him to do what he indicated.

his lips meet yours and oh, how soft they were, it felt like it lasted an eternity and you didn't want it to stop, and kai felt the very same way. as the kiss stopped kai smiled at you.

as soon as you saw the thought bubble on your ugly villagers head, you immediately rushed to call your boyfriend.

"kai. we have a hunt to go on."

it's been longer than an hour now and the villager hunt was not as successful as one would expect, kai was once again forced to timeskip so you could villager hunt at the same time.

"how come you keep getting cute villagers and you don't even keep them? that's so unfair." you complained, laying in your boyfriends arm, switch equipped in your hands, as you desperately watch your character go through the gates of the airport countless times.

"they dont match my island's aesthetic, i want ione." he made known, which only resulted in him receiving a small kick from you. "i want problems like that"

you took a small look on his switch, watching him walk through the mile island just to find... the blue squirrel, ione. he jumped up, screaming (or laughing, no one knows) at his success. your boyfriend tries to kiss you but you quickly dodged it, exclaiming "you don't deserve that right now, i swear to god you will not get a kiss until i find my new cute villager." of course, he whined at that but he understood your sorrow, animal crossing is no joke.

"bro i think this is my 43th mile ticket or something" you groaned, "did you just call me br-" before he could finish that you rush to interrupt him with a kiss on the cheek, which he only giggles at. you sighed desperately, as you left another island, without finding any future villager potential.

"kai can you cuddle me tighter? this is my last ticket i need your luck.." you mumbled.

he quickly provides that wish for you, "you dont have to tell me twice." you immediately feel the comfort of his warmth surrounding you, and you feel an overwhelming determination entering your body, you're going to succeed. the familiar dodo airlines screen makes itself know on your display, you softly squeeze kai's arm, nervosity taking over. you explore the island, looking for the animal. "oh my god, oh my god" you're left staring at the screen "IT'S MARINA" you smile brightly and kai is sure, that he didn't even see you smile like that when he asked you out. "this is all because of you. i love you i love you ohmy god" you kissed him twice on the cheek and countless times on his perfect lips. "what can i say? i'm your good luck charm" he smugly replies. "yeah, i could have used you the first 42 times."

still, he's your favorite villager hunting partner after all.
