Pen went to the celestial ball, but ditched it after two dances to go swimming in the Black Lake. She can't even recall who she took as a date as it was a strictly platonic affair, she wasn't interested in dating at Hogwarts and she wasn't interested in ruining a good friendship or three by dating and then having things go wrong. Also because she had the whole Jacob thing to worry about. She regrets not 'living' a little more at school, especially because travelling means she's not got the same opportunities to form relationships.

She still considers her school friends the best she's had in her life, but she's also well aware of the fact that letters aren't enough to maintain a friendship.

Pen pauses for a moment, just a moment, briefly wondering if it's a good idea to work in a group. There's a muggle saying, isn't there? Too many cooks spoil the broth. Something like that. But hopefully one of them will be able to sort something out. Unfortunately, she's always been hit or miss in potions, the theory is there, the weighing, the chopping into even pieces...not so much. But the newest member of the group's in Ravenclaw, and she'd hate to stereotype but...she's sure that someone smart enough to be sorted into Ravenclaw will be a great addition to the group.

The Hufflepuff can't help but grin at the prospect, the slight gap in her teeth more obvious now. It'd be nice to show a teacher who seems to hold a grudge against every student he's had a thing or two for a change

"The more the merrier, right?" She moves to the side, making more room next to the bubbling cauldron. "Penthesilea Honeysett, by the way. But my friends call me anything but that."

Being Jacob's sister sucks.

Not being Jacob's sister, but being known as Jacob's sister. Penthesilea's only chance to become more than that was when she left the country, it's freeing as much as it's distressing. She never had the chance to carve out a name or reputation for herself beforehand.

Pen did not know how to swim until her fourth year of Hogwarts, a tad ironic for someone who specialises in merpeople anthropology and spends most of her time on expeditions close to water. To say she 'learned how to swim' might be an understatement as she tripped and fell into the Black Lake and had to be rescued by the giant squid, but she spent a good portion of that summer learning to swim properly.

As time passed and she became harder to contact, it felt like every little link she'd made back home had fizzled out. It almost seemed laughable now that the Sorting Hat had ever wanted to put her in Gryffindor when the thought of seeing those she once knew scared her.

Rowan is Penthesilea's main reason for wanting to leave the country, it's hard to graduate, grow up and live a good life knowing that in another circumstance, her best friend would be there too. It's a little easier to forget when she's attempting to learn from jengu in Cameroon or trying to locate a vodanoy in Russia. The further away she is, the easier it seems to live with the guilt. The last thing she'd have ever wanted was to cut ties with her friends, but it's easier to write letters than it is to see everyone living lives her best friend couldn't.

The pain gets easier with age, but by the time she's twenty-two it almost seems to late to reconnect with old friends and try and live a life in Britain. She's brave, but it's so much harder to stand before the people you once knew, even if by now she's probably a stranger to them.

Penthesilea's not a fan of using her full name, some find it hard to pronounce, it was a pain to learn how to spell when she was younger and it's not a name she really grew into until she was older. A name taken from an Amazon of Greek myth never fit the shy, somwhat short girl she was until she shot up in her seventh year at Hogwarts and by then, most people were used to calling her Leah or by her surname anyway.
