2017 ARTIST ANNOUNCEMENT: THE TALKS
youtube
In just a short space of time The Talks have built themselves a compelling live reputation across the UK and Europe for delivering sweaty, high octane, dance floor filling shows, treading the boards with the likes of Madness, The Specials, Rancid, The Beat and many more. 2013 saw the band release their eagerly anticipated âWestsinisterâ E.P. along with singles âCan Stand The Rainâ - featuring the legendary Neville Staple from The Specials â and the YouTube smash âFriday Nightâ. The E.P. and respective singles achieved much success with Ska Punk and commercial listeners across the UK and Europe and also achieved the playlists of certain American, Australian and Japanese Ska orientated radio stations. With main stage performances at globally renowned festivals such as âThis Is Skaâ (DE), âMighty Soundsâ (CZ) and âRebellionâ, tweets of appraisal and support from new wave big hitters âLess Than Jakeâ, glowing reviews and cover features from Big Cheese and Vive Le Rock Magazines - not to mention appearing in programmes on various UK TV networks - the bands reputation has surged from strength to strength. In April 2014 the band released âDonât Look Behind Youâ, their first single from upcoming album âCommoners, Peers, Drunks and Thievesâ, which boosted the bandâs popularity, seeing them dramatically increase their touring schedule and break through further into commercial and alternative media across Europe. Proceeding with a successful second single "Radio" in their back pocket, The Talks set out on an extensive European tour. Totalling up 40 gigs spanning two months across 9 different countries, and about 10,000 miles of tarmac, the band were able to explore a lot of new, wide reaching territories and deliver the mayhem to brand new audiences in places such as Italy, Austria, Poland and Croatia. The openly received 'Commoners, Peers, Drunks and Thieves' was released in November 2014, and sales continue to rise and listenership grows evermore with air-play globally.

The Talks to headline Trinity Fest

Top band The Talks are tuning up for their first hometown gig in two years after being added to the bill for next weekendâs Hull Trinity Festival.
Organisers of the festival, HullBID, confirmed today that The Talks will step in after the tragic events this week which forced Little Barrie and The Ordinary Boys to pull out of the show. HullBID are continuing efforts with event partners The Warren to add another band to the programme.
Little Barrie cancelled their UK tour after the sudden death of their drummer, Virgil Howe. The Ordinary Boys pulled out after frontman Samuel Preston sustained several fractures in a fall from a balcony.
Both bands were scheduled to play Hull Trinity Festival in Zebedeeâs Yard on Saturday 23 September. The Magic Numbers will headline the free festival on Sunday 24 September, and the weekend will also feature an array of top local bands.
The Talks will be playing their first gig in Hull since 2015 when their dates included support to ska legends The Beat at that yearâs Hull Trinity Festival. They have been in demand as a headline band around the UK and toured as support to The Specials. They spent the summer captivating crowds at major festivals in Germany and the Netherlands.
Pat Pretorius, vocalist with the band, said: âItâs going to be special. Itâs something we will really enjoy. Itâs been that long. We havenât really done anything in Hull for two years. We slimmed off touring a little bit to have kids and write some more material. We had toured really hard from 2012 until 2015 and we have done some European tours since then but not much in the UK.â
The four-piece band will be joined by a session musician on keyboards and are looking forward to bringing their festival show to a venue which has won acclaim from music fans since hosting its first major live music event at least yearâs Trinity Festival.
Pat said they are now ready to return after a summer schedule which included the Lowlands Festival, the Dutch, Glastonbury-style event which starred bands including Iggy Pop, Elbow, Bastille and Mumford & Sons.
He said: âIt was a real privilege for us to do that and the other major European festivals that weâve played in recent years. I havenât been to any gigs at Zebedeeâs Yard but Iâve seen some photography and I know a lot of the production guys who have worked there.
âGetting the chance to play on a stage thatâs got full production is a massive thing. The moment you step onto an open stage itâs very different from club shows. You also get a broader type of audience with people from all walks of life who are there to experience different music, and that makes it a great opportunity.
âIâve worked as a producer with tons of bands in the city including a few who will be at Trinity. Iâm excited by all these artists and to perform on the same stage as them brings a different vibe.â
Stewart Baxter, Arts Development Manager at The Warren, added: âI think the last gig The Talks played in Hull was at Trinity Festival two years ago, and itâs great to have them back. They are one of the cityâs favourite bands, they have a great following and one reason we havenât seen them for so long is that they are headliners in their own right â theyâve been playing sell-out shows all over the UK.â
Kathryn Shillito, HullBID City Centre Manager, said: âOur first thoughts are with Virgil Howeâs family and the members of Little Barrie, and we also wish Preston a full and speedy recovery. Weâre very grateful to The Talks for stepping up, and to The Warren for getting them on board at such short notice.
âThe Talks were approached some time ago about playing at Trinity Festival but couldnât commit at the time because of their busy European schedule. Weâre fortunate to have them, and weâre delighted for their army of fans. Hull Trinity Festival once again promises to be a fantastic weekend in a unique venue.â
Hull Trinity Festival will take place from 1pm until 9pm on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 September in Zebedeeâs Yard, Hull. As a result of sponsorship from McCoys, Shoot the Bull and Oscars Bar, admission will be free of charge.
Yasmin Coe will open the event on Saturday and will be followed by Sister Strange, Serial Chiller, Let Man Loose, Faux Pas, Magic Mountain, La Bete Blooms and The Talks.
On Sunday, Ysabelle Wombwell will take the stage at 1pm, followed by Happy Endings, Pavey Ark, Crooked Weather, The Mighty and the Moon, Mint, Black Lime, Fronteers and The Magic Numbers. There will also be live music at city centre bars including Oscars, Jaz and Chilli Devils.

LITTLE BARRIE JOIN ORDINARY BOYS TO END A HUGE SATURDAY LINE UP AT TRINITY FESTIVAL 2017
Little Barrie, a classic British power trio in the lineage of Cream and the Jimi Hendrix Experience, may not have all the answers, but theyâre asking all the right questions.
Made up of Barrie Cadogan (guitar/vocals), Lewis Wharton (bass) and Virgil Howe (drums), their fifth album, âDeath Expressâ, packs a heavy punch, channelling the three membersâ ferocious musical chops into a raw, DIY response to todayâs atmosphere of confusion and division.
âThereâs no political message, just lyrical food for thought, and some of the tautest, most incendiary grooves youâll ever hear, enticing even dancefloor-shy listeners to hip-shake away their cares. High-octane meditations on surveillance paranoia (âCopterâ), devious policing at mass protests (âMolotov Copâ) and greed (âVulture Swarmâ) have rarely felt so irresistible to body movement.
ââThe albumâs genesis kick started, when Little Barrie were invited to provide incidental music for âBetter Call Saulâ, a spin-off series from hip TV phenomenon âBreaking Badâ, for which theyâd already cut the theme tune. With no time to book a studio, they were forced to do it themselves, in their practice room. The response was favourable, and they began to feel that such DIY takes had a vibrant quality often lacking from âproperâ productions.
Little Barrieâs grief-free vibe has won them countless friends. They backed Paul Weller on â08âs â22 Dreamsâ album, and memorably supported the reunited Stone Roses in Paris. Theyâve toured with buddies including Dinosaur Jr, Brian Jonestown Massacre and Charles Bradley, as well as several jaunts with Primal Scream (Barrie performing two sets per night). Quite apart from âBetter Call Saulâ their music has appeared on countless ads, TV shows and movies.

ORDINARY BOYS HEADLINE SATURDAY AT HULL TRINITY FESTIVAL 2017
In 2004, The Ordinary Boys released their debut album Over The Counter Culture preceded by the single Maybe Someday. The title track Over the Counter Culture was featured on the soundtrack for best-selling video game Burnout 3: Takedown. In support of the album they embarked on tours supported by Kaiser Chiefs, The Cribs and Hard-Fi.
In 2005, they released their second album Brassbound along with the single Boys Will Be Boys. The single didn't become a hit until 2006, as their popularity grew particularly due to media coverage that Preston received when participating in Channel 4's Celebrity Big Brother UK in January 2006. During this time, Boys Will be Boys was re-released and reached No. 3 on the UK singles chart and No. 1 on the UK download chart. Following this, they released singles Nine2Five and Lonely at the Top to further top 10 success.
In October 2006 they released their third album How to Get Everything You Ever Wanted in Ten Easy Steps which marked a change of sound, with more of a commercial pop feel, featuring synthesisers and samples. I Luv U was released as the final single from the album and became their fourth consecutive top 10 hit. The Ordinary Boys was the fourth most searched for keyword of 2006 Yahoo UK!âs annual top ten search results.[3]
A revived Ordinary Boys reunited in December 2011 for a full UK tour of small venues. Â In December 2013, Sam Preston announced that the Ordinary Boys were to officially reform, this time with Yorkshireman Louis Jones, formerly of power pop band Spectrals, on lead guitar and featuring the return of original drummer Charlie Stanley.
The band released their fourth album, the eponymously-titled The Ordinary Boys, on 2 October 2015 via their own imprint label Treat Yourself.

MAGIC NUMBERS HEADLINE SUNDAY AT HULL TRINITY FESTIVAL 2017
The Magic Numbers is an English pop rock band comprising two pairs of brothers and sisters from Hanwell. The group was formed in 2002, releasing their debut album The Magic Numbers in June 2005. Their follow-up album, Those the Brokes, was released in November 2006, The Runaway was released in June 2010, and their most recent album Alias was released in August 2014.
In late 2002 The Magic Numbers formed in their present guise, and they began touring the London circuit, gradually developing their sound and building a small cult following, not least amongst some already established artists including The Chemical Brothers, Travis, and Ed Harcourt, with the latter later influential in their signing to record label Heavenly Records, narrowly choosing that label over Rough Trade Records.
Their rise came swiftly, beginning in the summer of 2004 and later that year when they began supporting well-known artists such as Travis, Ed Harcourt and Snow Patrol and appearing on the bill of some low-key UK festivals, building a larger following by increasing their live performances. In November 2004, they released a limited edition 7" vinyl single, "Hymn for Her", to coincide with a three-show residency at The Borderline in London.
After their heavy touring and promotion of their self-titled debut, The Magic Numbers returned in the autumn of 2006 with their follow-up album, Those the Brokes. The band did another extensive run of shows to promote and tour for the album, including supporting The Who in Southampton, and an appearance at the 2007 Glastonbury Festival.
In May 2013, The Magic Numbers went on their first ever acoustic tour. The five-week tour saw the band play in the intimate surroundings of some of the most beautiful theatres, churches and live music venues across the UK and Ireland.

2017 ARTIST ANNOUNCEMENT: La Béte Blooms
The awesome pop-grungesters La BĂȘte Blooms join us for #TrinityFest17..
Fresh off the back of their latest EP âI Know Itâs Nothingâ, the Hull post-punk collective have moved fast to release a brash and bold song which portrays the plight of a modern couple seeing the world crumble around them in 2017. From shoegazey beginnings to their grunge and fuzz EP release earlier this year, âLost and Foundâ is the bands most polished and upfront work to date. A blast of noise which is over in just under two and a half minutes, the DIY band from the North of England describe a pair of typical twenty-somethings, who ignore the fatal signs that result in the end of the world. Released the day after a divisive UK election, perhaps La BĂȘte Blooms imaginary apocalypse could become too real for comfort.
Having recently supported the likes of Ratboy, Jaws and The Big Moon, whilst touring the venues that matter across England, La Bete Bloomsâ latest single welcomes you into a paranoid and abrasive world this autumn via Hull labels The Adult Teeth Recording Company and Warren Records.

2017 ARTIST ANNOUNCEMENT: Serial Chiller
Serial Chiller have a DIY attitude that resonates through the pencil-scratched, paint-splatted artwork, through to the no no nonsense song writing. Serial Chiller are the kind of band that don't give a fuck about being cool. They're too busy mopping up hangovers from the deals menu in Pizza Hot, and yet despite this, whether they mean it or not, their sound is instantly cool and shows songwriters craft.
SerialChiller have received airplay through BBC Radio 1's Huw Stephens and featured on Channel 4's Sunday Brunch.. We welcome them to #TrinityFest17 for their debut appearance.

2017 ARTIST ANNOUNCEMENT: EMBRS
EMBRS IS a new project helmed by Emily Moulton Music. Emilyâs talent has always amazed us, maybe its the way she can effortlessly lay herself bare with every word she sings or maybe itâs the way she crafts beautiful imagery with haunting honesty. Whatever sparked our obsession it is clear we are not the only ones in owe as Emily is not short of admirers, the likes of Tom Robinson from BBC 6 Music and Huw Stephens on Radio 1 have spun her beautiful odes. When we found out that Emily was developing her sound by transferring her songwriting into a full band set up similar to The Japanese House we instantly had to book her!

THE MAGIC NUMBERS PLAY HULL TRINITY FESTIVAL 2017
The Magic Numbers are back and Headlining Hull Trinity Festival on Sunday 24th September. Prepare to be amazed.Â
Exultant harmonies, sweeping melodies, driving rock and gorgeous ballads: The Magic Numbers are past masters at making music that lifts the spirits. Fourth time around, though, it is time to cast a new spell. Alias is the Magic Numbers as we always dreamed they could sound, heavier, sweeter, richer, deeper than ever before, a classic British songwriting band at the height of their powers.Â
Formed in 2002, The Magic Numbers quickly won the affection of critics and audiences with their Mercury nominated, top ten, double platinum debut in 2005. They honed and refined their guitar and harmony sound on Those The Brokes (2006) before widening out with a more piano and studio based set on 2010âs The Runaway. The journey has not always been an easy one, however. âMusic was all Iâd ever dreamed about, and I thought it was going to be the answer to everything. But when amazing success came, I felt worse, almost. There was still this void inside. I couldnât understand it. I messed up loads of things.â Since the last record, a long term relationship ended, another began, and Romeo became a father for the first time. âAlias was written between two extremes, something that was really traumatic that had been festering for years with a lot of pain and guilt, and a new lease of life. My little boy was the best thing that ever happened to me. Fatherhood takes you away from all that self-absorbed nonsense. At the same time Iâve got a lot more focus and drive. Iâve been asking a lot of questions with these songs, trying to find a way to exist without constantly beating myself up, and I realised that music is what I have to do, and so I should do it the best I can and not worry about any of the outside stuff that I have no control over. I feel like I did before the first album, ready and excited about whatâs to come.âÂ
There are two sets of brothers and sisters in Magic Numbers, the Stodarts (vocalist and multi- instrumentalist Romeo and bassist and multi-instrumentalist Michelle) and the Gannons (drummer Sean and vocalist and percussionist Angela). âCreatively, it does divide into two sibling camps,â says Romeo, âBut within that thereâs another two camps, the boys and the girls.â Romeo and Michelle work closely on arrangements, while Sean and Angela come into their own in performance. âThe Gannonâs really love playing, and for this album, we wanted to capture that energy, something that can be so elusive in the studio, wigging out in an almost unconscious state of playing and not thinking.â There was an added element for Alias, with Gita Harcourt (wife of singer-songwriter Ed Harcourt) contributing string arrangements and playing violin live. âWe work well together, it brings another set of colours and tones to the sound.âÂ
Romeo has always had a vision for the Magic Numbers. âFrom the very beginning, I wanted us to be one of those bands that I fell in love with growing up. A band that you can believe in, where the look, the sound, the songs all add up to something, and when you put on the headphones you can go somewhere and escape. We donât want to chase a scene, we just do what we do, and stay kind of true.â If Alias had its roots in an identity crisis, it is one that is resolved by the music itself. âWhat can we do except try and make something that we love? Thatâs everything we can do.âÂ
Take a listen. Because The Magic Numbers really are making magic.
