Explain to me this Ruger.

How the fuck did it take you THIS LONG to finally give us a quick takedown Mark series gun? And why the fuck was it only released mere months after S&W made the Victory that proved to us all that you CAN make a .22 pistol that doesn't require 4 hands, two PhD's in mechanical engineering and at least one lathe to disassemble for cleaning? Were you that paranoid over losing your market niche because someone finally did the thing we've all wanted?

Really?

The Ruger Mark IV is the Ruger that has finally gotten it's shit together. And showing that if you yell at them long enough, they will in fact update something so it’s modern. And so we now have this. They will give us rails standard! They will give us an ambi safety standard! And that safety will legitimately just be a lever on top of the normal button!

Oh Ruger, never change.

I mean there’s no history to these. They dropped out of the wood work a few years ago and have taken over the Mark III’s market share. New mags, now unified with the 22/45, a normal goddamn mag release, a polymer frame on certain models and so on.

Ruger Mark IV’s are mildly amusing as far as guns go, because it feels like a toy. Like an airsoft gun. I know someone’s going to call me bad for saying that, but there’s no recoil from these for the most part. The sights are big, blocky and square, the trigger functions as a trigger, and the most amusing thing is how very basic it is. Point. Shoot. Win. This is like the Ruger 10/22, you buy it when you don’t care about anything else and just want a .22 for doing stupid shit with. And for that, I thank it.

I'm not going to fucking pay 500 bucks for a Turkshit clone of a Walther P99, and it's not even for the boomer "yur fundin TERRIST" things. This gun is decent, yes but the niche of this thing was getting them for pennies and having a relatively good modern semi-auto in the price bracket of stuff like the SD9VE. And now? Fuck have fun finding one for like 550~ if you're lucky.

Canik's are red-headed step children of the Walther P99, the dusty old Not-Glock of the early 2000's that no one in the US could get. Canik was born initially as Samsun Domestic Defense and Industry Corporation, part of Turkey's efforts to begin domestic weapons production and shy away from relying on bumming German designs through MKEK. And at the same time we got the first TP9. I'm not going to say they copied the P99, probably got a license but damn if those original TP9's don't look like P99 had a run in with a Glock 19 and bung babies in Istanbul before leaving it a 20 dollar note and booking it.

Naturally we have evolution away from that, hence modern Canik's.

Out of the Turkish handgun lineup like SAR's, Girsans and so on, the Canik's are one of the better options out there. It's a modern striker fired polymer frame 9mm handgun that does what it's supposed to do. The problem is that it doesn't really do much else. Everything cool on a Canik is done by other guns at the same price point, and then there's other issues. The aftermarket is wonky, the parts are strange and the guns begin to fall apart. This thing at it's original price point was killer, and hypebeasts ran it up the charts to a point it can't really compete in. Century's going to learn eventually that either it drops down low to match or it keeps playing pathetic second fiddle with new Canik's trying to chase after whatever Walther and SIG are doing this week, cause no one's really buying as many Canik's anymore.
