Deltarune chapters 3 and 4 are releasing in the next couple of days, and I'm so excited that I may have taken the day off work to play it, lol.
I've also been replaying chapters 1 and 2 because why wouldn't I, and it reminded me of a theory I've had since the beginning. It doesn't classify as a spoiler since there's no way to know at this point, but I'll put it under the cut anyway.
Quite bluntly, I think Ralsei is the overarching villain. I'm sure that's not a new concept in the game theory sphere, but I don't recall seeing it anywhere either (and it's got nothing to do with anything in Undertale).
Firstly, the prophesy mentions 'a Prince from the darkness', but even in chapter 1 there are two prince's- Ralsei and Lancer. Why Ralseis kingdom is empty is never explained, nor why he's so keen to recruit other Darkeners. The way he's also immediately trying to be best friends with Kris and Suzie, like he's got bigger plans he's trying to groom them into playing a part in.
And yes, I know, videogame logic, building the party and the hub town, etc, but this is Toby Fox we're talking about, you know there's more going on than surface level.
Replaying Chapter 2 only made this suspicion worse. The rooms he made them in the castle, for example. Firstly, how did he know what their bedrooms looks like? Giving Kris the shelf full of trophies that in the light world is over Asriels bed, literally plunging their siblings sides into darkness, giving it the old 'you can come here when things get too hard at home' spiel. It could easily be a tactic towards soemthing nefarious - 'I see you, I appreciate you, your golden child siblings mean nothing to me, dont you want to stay here with me and have adventures? Look, you even have your own room, full of things just for you.'
(Incidentally, I'm only inferring Suzie has a sibling based on how the room design disappearing into shadow mirrors how Asriels half of the room disappears.)
Theres also a lot to be inferred by his hatless charatcer design. Sure, he has his goofy moments, but most of the time he looks pretty smug to me. Relaxed, hands behind his back, hooded eyes, like he knows exactly what's going on and is in control at all times. And the way he just turns up in Cyberworld because he 'just noticed it' when it's clear from NPC dialogue that it's been there for some time, and Lancer and Rouxls Kaard had to be in Kris' inventory to get there 🤔
Maybe Ralsei is in league with the real Kris, and that's why their name appears on the save when the player first enters the dark world. Maybe he's the Prince sending the Knight on their errands. Maybe I'm wrong entirely!
But I'm definitely watching him the next few chapters

I JUST learned that this shirt cost them $10,000 to put into this movie… but they refused to compromise because they were like: he’s the hugest Golden Girls fan… this has to make the movie… so they paid $10,000 to use Bea Arthur’s likeness on this shirt… Ryan Reynolds, you’re doing Deadpool so right.
