This week we were talking about our literature paper. We are discussing the facts to our research. I thought that this picture i found woud be useful in explaining the situation and to show how many things are affected when these dams are built.

Stasis Theory on Hydroelectric dams
Are Hydroelectric dams good or bad for the environment? That is the question that me and others are thinking of. In this environmentally conscience day of age this is a urgent question, and a topic that will not go away until there is a common solution to all involved. The issue is, even though there are many advantages to using hydroelectricity there are also negative consequences that happen as a result of dams. Like with evreything else there are consequences, good or bad that happen as a result of change.
The reasons for building a dam are obvious, they are a renewable energy source, they an efficient clean energy source, and they provide electric service and jobs for millions. Their resevoirs serve as a recreation and as housing. Also these resevoirs can give a new habitat for wildlife. They are also the source of drinking water for nearby towns, and provide a food source of fish to people.
The reasons for not building dams are not as obvious as one would think. Dams are habitat displacers, they force wildlife out of there homes, and in extreme cases they can even kill wildlife. Plants that have been flooded create a greenhouse gas called methane. They have also been known to burn coal to produce the usual output of electricity in times of drought, that also contributes to the greenhouse effect.
There are many stakeholders in this issue. There are the men and women that work at the dams. These dams provide electricity to many people. These people would be dramatically effected if there wasn't the a dam in their area. They would be jobless and in the dark. There are many businesses that use this electricity to operate and stay open. Then there is the wildlife, it is a positve thing for some species and negative for some species.

Plato's allagory cave is the subject we coverd this past week in class. In this he forces you to think about reality in a new way. The reality one knows, is the information and objects that are presented to them. It also suggest that the enlightend one sometimes has to deal with being presented new realities that others are not aware of. He is then in charge of passing this new knowledge on to others. I believe that reality is the information that one knows and the realtiy they know is how they have processed that information that they have learned. For instince one could know the scientific facts about an event, but isn't clear on how to handle that information. Because that person could be conflicted through their culture and religion. I really enjoyed this reading it forces you to think if we are still coming out of the cave into the light or are we alreasy there in the "real truth". Or could we possibly still be the prisoners. I like the way this picture depicted the Cave.

The Stasis Theory of The Elusive Big Idea
The article by Neal Gabler is an article that suggest that people dont try as hard as they used to for new ideas in the world. Gabler says that people have become "we perfer knowing to thinking because knowing has more immediate value". Gabler gives many resons why this may be happening he blames the fact that the internet provides us with the information we want now “the end of ideology,” “the medium is the message,” “the feminine mystique,” “the Big Bangtheory,” “the end of history.” The solution that Gabler seems to come up with is to maybe use twitter and blogs as a forum for new ideas. This is a great solution it allows people to bounce ideas off other peoples ideas from around the world. Gabler belives that knowing so much will impeade on us thinking about new ideas. He says "There wont be anything we dont know, but there will be no one thinking about it". The way Gabler views our future is grim, but I believe he has a point. If we could use our social internet to create new ideas and not useless rablings about or daily life we could possible come up with some new groundbreaking stuff.

2weekly post

Since we have been talking about our essays in class, i thought I would post some tweets that my essay was about. Theses tweets are racists tweets about a character from The Hunger Games named Rue. The fans of the book, got really upset when the character they found out the character wasn't the race they had imangined. The atrticle was titled Whit Until Proven Black. The article really opened my eyes to how I imagined someone being described to me in a article, and what i hear in the descriptions of the people i am reading about.

A letter to the Author
To whom it may concern,
This letter I am writing to you is about the essay I recently reviewed of yours. This paper was a terrific. It had all the qualities of an A paper. In your paper you hit on all the ideas of a rhetorical situation. You also showed how each individual step produces the rhetorical situation your article was talking about. You seemed to have thought and emotion in your writing and it really showed in your essay.
In your essay you showed how context, audience, and exigency have to all be accounted for, for the situation to be considered rhetorical. You showed that the context the argument would have not existed because it was based on people finding out that what they thought was wrong. You also did great showing how the audience played a main factor because there were two sides arguing two different opinions. The exigency brought the situation into the public's eye.
The only suggested i would make is to refer to the article making people review the way they think on these kinds of situations. How it made people either quit saying negative racist things or they just went into hiding because of the things they said. I think you did a great job in showing the reader how the whole time they probably thought Adam was white when he was of Caribbean descent. Overall i think you did very well in getting your point across and showing your feelings in the writing.
Sincerely,
Chris Hunt

SWA(Ballet or the bullet)
Chris Hunt
“Speech Analysis”
“The ballet or the bullet”, He is talking about his background and other civil right leaders. He calls himself a “freedom fighter”. He fights for Black Nationalism, and he wants to keep religion a personal matter, stating that a fight about religion could never get anywhere. He wants to have the same political rights as the white man. He believes that the white man controls the economy, schools, and politics. He wants the black community to take care of their neighborhoods and spend money only in their neighborhoods. He wants the black man to own more businesses. So the money that is made in the community stays there, and the workers will get work there in the community.
The Malcolm X speech is a speech about how it was time for the African American to stand up and fight for their equality and their communities. The exigence to this was for the black man to open up businesses in their communities, and to only spend money at those businesses. The speech informs the audience that the money being made in their community is taken right out of the circulation of the community. The Audience he is speaking to is mainly made up of African Americans, and only few “enemies”, so his speech is embraced by the crowd. I believe his speech like others he has done promotes violence too much. Malcolm X’s argument for “time to quit singing and start swinging” is not the right approach to this or any matter. This kind of solution will always be the wrong road to take, because the outcome is usually life loss and blood shed, and only more arguments and people to blame.

(SWA)A Rhetorical Situation (New Assault Weapon Laws)
I read an article on CNN.com talking about a the proposed amendment to an assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 and also limiting magazines to 10 rounds. The article is a very hot topic in today's time. With several major mass shotting in the past year and many more everyday, it is an issue that has to be handled with now but with much though and compromise. The Feinstein proposal would be a start to getting some new gun laws passed that will help save many lives. The article is geared more toward a demoratic audience because it has quotes from Vice President Biden, "It's not about keeping bad guns out of the hands of good people," Biden said. "It's about keeping all guns out of the hands of bad people". The article also talks about a the NRA and shows them apposing the gun ban. The arguments for the ban are strong but the way they were one sided is not going to help their proposal even if it is one that needs to really be thought about.
