At first I need to say that a lot of workshops didn't label some instruments as the dealer who was buying had put his own name on these instruments. Besides that, several producers had contracts with a wide spread dealer field not to sell any of their saxophones to other dealers. That resulted in putting other names on an in fact the same instrument. This was often the case in America but also in Europe. This was the way to expand the business avoiding a justice cause. These are the so called stencil instruments. Dolnet Sax Serial Numbers

Dolnet (pronounced DOL-NAY) is a model which has been getting steadily more popular since I started this website. There is a good reason for this: the horns are solidly made, are quite jazzy and have a fairly good sound, although there are some negative comments here and there regarding intonation.

There isn't a Dolnet model or serial number chart, per se, so I essentially am creating this based on engravings, user input and manufacturing differences.

As far as real Dolnet history goes, Dolnet was founded in 1880 and started manufacturing saxophones around 1888. I'm going to let guest columnist Laurie Pimblett take it from here:

Over the years I've been exclusively collecting French saxes. Along the way I've made a small collection of Dolnets; these I regard as unknown treasures of the sax world, and I rate them very highly indeed. They are often good -- sometimes breathtaking -- and rank amongst the best saxes I've ever played!

I understand that there were two partners in the Dolnet company, going by the names of Messieurs Pigis and Lefevre; their workshop was situated at Mantes, the historical 'heart' of France's woodwind craft workshops, and fascinatingly, the home of the Selmer marque (and Buffet, etc.).There is much in common with Selmers in terms of technical points and general ease of action and feel, though sometimes there are small errors in construction -- such as occasional solder- and rod-looseness both very easily dealt with -- but not worth getting 'sniffy' about if you want a potentially superb instrument like a Dolnet.

Dolnet horns were produced in very small numbers by a small French workshop that specialized in saxes. See page #193 of the German book 'That's Jazz', for a photo of Lester Young playing a Dolnet tenor.

IMHO, it appears that Dolnet production parallels Buffet, SML and Couesnon production, more than Selmer: not only is the keywork design on early Dolnets similar to early SML's (and becomes similar to Buffet after about 1940), some of the Jean Cartier stencils have the beautiful Sparkle Lacquer that is most famously found on the Buffet Super Dynaction. The overall look is definitely influenced by (or influenced) Couesnon horns. All this makes me agree with David Hughes (an e-mailer): the Dolnets were produced until at least the mid-1980's, not the 1960's as many websites indicate (see also Saxophon-Service, which advocates an end date of 1984).

As mentioned, there isn't an official serial number list, although there are some ranges cobbled together, below. It seems, however, that the serial number ranges incorporate the full production of ALL instruments produced by Dolnet, not just saxophones. I'd think that production of saxophones was no more than 500 horns per year.

Also note that the 'Bel Air' series introduced letters after the serial number. If you see a 'C' after the serial number, it isn't a C instrument!

Since late December, five protests have erupted at the City Justice Center in downtown St. Louis. The latest came Sunday night, when a group of detainees broke windows on the third floor and threw objects to the streets below. Inmates could be heard chanting “We need help” and “We want court dates.”

The number of people being incarcerated pre-trial in St. Louis, as well as the amount of time they spend waiting for trial, is one of the main focuses of a recent task force report looking into unrest at the jail. Commissioned after detainees seized control of a floor of the jail for hours on Feb. 6, the report contained 68 recommendations — 13 of them considered urgent.

But the chair of the St. Louis Corrections Task Force, the Rev. Darryl Gray, said on Wednesday’s St. Louis on the Air that none of the recommendations in the March 12 report is being implemented with the necessary urgency.

“When you continue to put detainees in cells that you know can be manipulated, when you have not moved through the justice system a lot quicker since the February 6 riots, when you still haven’t given detainees the proper visitation with their families and time out of their cells,” he said — noting that detainees are still restricted to their cells for 23 hours at a time due to COVID-19 precautions — “these were the things that we identified as being the problem, the initiator of the problem, in February and before.

“We hear from management that, ‘We’re following through with some of these things,’” Gray said, “but obviously it’s not moving quick enough.”

He said it’s past time for the city to take action.

“The senior management in the correctional center right now,” said Gray, referring to Corrections Commissioner Dale Glass, “has been derelict in his duties to move forward with any urgency as it relates to what’s happening there right now.”

What needs to happen immediately, Gray said, is the creation of an independent oversight board with subpoena power and unrestricted access to detainees. Previously, Gray said, his task force was hamstrung by limited access to both detainees and the facilities.

Mayor-elect Tishaura Jones has indicated her support of such a committee. Gray said the St. Louis Board of Aldermen also appears to be on board.

“We’re hoping that [the Public Safety Committee] can meet within the next couple of days, and at least put together a framework for that oversight committee,” he said.

“And that public safety director should give Commissioner Glass two options,” he said. “Resign or be fired.”

Creating a jar File in Eclipse. This page shows you how to create a jar file (java archive) using the Eclipse IDE. The instructions are for bundling the source code (.java files) into a jar. These instructions do not cover how to make an executable jar. Based on the instructions from the Eclipse documentation.

Each code template is given a short literal. Typing the literal into the editor window and press Ctrl + Space brings up a dialog box from which a code template associated with that literal can be selected. Typing for within the body of a method in the java editor window and clicking Ctrl + space shows the code templates associated with for.

The Java code generation is available via Papyrus SW designer, a Papyrus component. It can be used by installing the latest version of Papyrus. It allows to create Java source code from a class diagram.

The Java features of Papyrus are available as part of the Papyrus Software Designer extra feature.

You can install it by using the Papyrus Software Designer update-site:

Then select 'Papyrus Java profile, library and code generation (Incubation)' feature. You need JDT installed (which comes with most Eclipse packages).

Code generation from UML elements

You can generate code for a specific classifier or package in your UML model. To generate code, do the following:

Right click on classifier or package, either in a diagram or in the model explorer

Designer > Generate Java code

Follow the JDT dialogs that let you create a new JDT project in Eclipse, where code will be generated, if there is no JDT project associated with your model (e.g. the first time you generate code from your model)

When you generate code from a classifier, its required classifiers are also generated. Required classifiers are classifiers related for the generated classifier, e.g. typing one of its attributes, inheritance relationship, dependency relationship. When you generate code from a package (e.g. the root of your model), all of its classifiers, and their required classifiers, will be generated.

Generation preferences

You can change the Java code generation preferences using the Eclipse preferences menu, and choose Papyrus > Java code generation.Available options are:

Java profile and library

The installed Java feature, of Papyrus Software Designer, comes with a Java profile and a Java library. Furthermore, it also installs a generic code generation profile for meta-information (e.g. project name modeling).

Java profile

The Java profile adds stereotypes to model specific Java elements that otherwise cannot be modeled in UML. It also adds stereotypes for managing elements that you do not want to generate (e.g. <<NoCodeGen>>, <<External>>, <<ExternLibrary>> stereotypes). The stereotypes can be seen as tags to put on UML elements. To apply the Java profile:

Click on your model (in the Model Explorer view)

In the Properties view, choose the Profile tab

Click on Apply registered profile

In the dialog that opens, choose the Java profile

Java library

The Java library provides Java primitives and their wrapper classes. To import, this library:

Right click on your model (in the Model Explorer view)

Import > Import Registered Package

Choose the JavaLibrary package

Then you can use the Java primitives in this package, when you type attributes, parameters, etc...

Papyrus Software Designer also offers a common code generation profile, that can be used for Java code generation. This profile lets the user model meta-information, e.g. path where code is generated.

As said in the last section, the <<Project>> stereotype lets you choose incremental code generation. Currently there is an experimental state-based incremental code generator for Java in Papyrus Software Designer. Incremental code generation is seamless to the user, but this is what happens in reality:

A temporary code is generated from the model.

The temporary code is compared to the existing code, via JDT.UI comparison feature.

The Java-specific DiffNodes (see Eclipse compare and JDT API) are obtained post-comparison.

We use these DiffNodes to take decisions on how we update incrementally the existing code.

After all updates are complete, the temporary source code is deleted.

Later we plan to add change-based incremental code generation for Java.

I’m extremely happy to finally upload this skin. After the Alouette III skin being not that popular I had to do ‘something simple’. Turns out ‘simple’ means spending dozens of hours getting a special paint Mitsubishi T-2 skin done. None the less, enjoy this colorful and historical skin for the Mitsubishi T-2. Now playable in 4K & 2K DDS as well as an original TGA sized file. Everything is done as true to the aircraft as possible, including the weird mirrored graphics. All necessary stencils have been redone with help from my partner.

The aircraft Presented here is Mitsubishi T-2 Serial number 086, manufacturing number 99-5160. Produced sometime in 1979, the aircraft was already flying by the 6th of April and delivered to the Japanese Air Self-Defence Force sometime the following month, receiving the ID number 160. Photographic evidence seems to indicate that the aircraft was always part of the 22nd Fighter Training Squadron (第22飛行隊) which used Mitsubishi T-2 aircraft since it’s formation on the 5th of April 1978.

By the turn of the century however it was decided to end the operations of the 22nd squadron by March 2001. For this special occasion one aircraft was selected to receive a special paint job, celebrating the end after decades of successful operation. 99-5160 was selected for this effort and painted by several people, who’s names have been adorned on the canopies. I did my best from the limited material I had, but these were the names were able to make out from the photographs we had. Art Chief S.SGT Y. Terashima, Art Asst A/1C H.Kawasou, Art Asst A/3C D.Ohkawa and Art Asst A/3C E.Ohsaka. The final flight was performed by Captain Kaneda, who flew number 160 over the Matsushima Air base, landed the aircraft, and then took command of number 183 and took off. Sadly the aircraft’s final fate is unknown at this time.

The T-2 with the 22nd Fighter Training Squadron The 22nd Fighter Training Squadron was a flight training unit which fell under the command of the 4th Air Division within the JASDF Flight Education Group. It was formed at the Matsushima Air Base in 1978 on the 5th of April, 1978 and was the second T-2 Training Squadron within the JASDF.

At first it was in charge of the 60-hour combat maneuvering course which took place after the end of the basic maneuvering course. On the 30th of September the squadron was entrusted with the 100 hours of combat maneuvering course, after which the successful students would advance to the F-15 preparation course. Several other aircraft like the T-33A and T-4 were used as ‘contact’ machines.

In 1996 it was decided to abolish the use of the Mitsubishi T-2 in favor of the Kawasaki T-4. As such the squadron was to be closed at on the 27th of March, 2001, mainly due to the reorganisation of the Flight Education Program of the JASDF. One Mitsubishi T-2 received a special paint job for the historic event held that day. Captain Kaneda performed one final flight with ID 160, climbed into ID 183 and took off, conducting a final photo-recon mission in the training area and returned to base with a four diamond formation indicating the end of the squadron.

In nearly 23 years the squadron had achieved a total flight count of 145,000 hours, ‘60,093,8 hours of accident-free flight’ and trained a total of 746 students.
