Hunt Yachts are incredibly good looking boats !!
Unlike many other brands of boat that look right in blue or white, or maybe red, I have always maintained that a Hunt is so striking, and so good looking that you can literally have one built in any color you like and it would look right.  Check out this lovely new Harrier 36 currently being built at our shop in Portsmouth, RI.  This color was desired by the owner and custom mixed just for this boat.  It is powered with a single Cummins QSB 550 hp mated to a water jet to deliver cruising speeds of 30 knots.
This one is a show stopper folks !  Stay tuned for launching photos soon.

C. R. Hunt keeps coming up in my web searches...
Tumblr media
                                              FINISTERRE
I've been poking around online looking for potential sponsorship opportunities for Hunt Yachts Chesapeake this season.  Today I landed on the Annapolis - Newport Race, where I found an interesting history page full of great names in yachting.
http://v009u07qap.maximumasp.com/annapolisnewport/History-New.html
So I perused through the years looking at some neat old photos, and what jumps out at me for the 1957 race but...HARRIER, C. R. Hunt, Class C winner.
Class C 1. Harrier - C. R. Hunt 2. Bonne Amie - G. R. Hinman 3. Finisterre - Carleton Mitchell 4. Hirondelle - H. M. Chance II 5. Golliwog - C. E. Ratsey 6. Finn MacCumhaill - Bobby Coulson 7. Corinthia III - George Thompson 8. Gailliard - E. Newbold Smith
I posted earlier about the little known fact that C. Raymond Hunt was also an outstanding sailboat designer and all around yachtsman, and designed the Concordia Yawl....but what I found most intrigueing about this Class C win aboard Ray's own Concordia Yawl is that he beat out Carleton Mitchell aboard FINISTERRE.   The S&S designed FINISTERRE was in all the press of the day as being the 'unlikely' (fat, heavily equipped centerboarder) winner of many prestigious and rigorous ocean races of the day including three consecutive Newport-Bermuda races '56, '58 & '60.
So...aboard his Concordia Yawl HARRIER, a 20 yr. old design at this point, Ray beat Carleton in his 'modern' S&S designed FINISTERRE.
Anyway, we're all about modern Deep V Hunt designs here, but it's fun to see this design history and pedigree.  These guys all knew each other too, and there's quite a bit of history between C. Raymond Hunt, Dick Bertram and Carleton Mitchell.  That's a blog for another day.

Grey Winter Silence...
.....Listen.....hear the quiet hum of a silky smooth 370 hp diesel, the hush of water at the hull side and the few shotgun blasts from distant waterfowl hunters ?  This was my morning on the Eastern Shore today taking a client's Hunt to her winter slumber.  THIS BOAT.....IS....THE.....FINEST.....boat of this size I've ever run.  And I'm very spoiled!

JUST LAUNCHED - New 2013 Hunt Harrier 29
Welcoming a new Harrier 29 to the Chesapeake Bay.  This fabulous new boat is powered by a 370 hp Volvo D6 driving a traditional 5 blade prop.  The performance is stunning and amazingly quiet.  Bow and stern thrusters put close quarters maneuvering on par with ANY joystick control without the added cost and complexity.  A MUST SEE if you're in the area.

Ray Hunt Designed the iconic Concordia Yawl
Did you know this?  Ray designed the Concordia Yawl in 1938.  This is still one of the most recognized and widely admired yachts of all time.
Hunt and his family owned one of these wonderful sailing boats.  In fact, after sailing across the Atlantic with the wife and kids in 1955, the Hunt family went on for a clean sweep of Cowes Race Week and won 6 out of 6 races.  The above photo is one of my favorites showing Mrs. Hunt at the helm of their Concordia Yawl 'HARRIER" at a good pace.  Note the kids on deck, and I believe that's Ray trimming the Spinnaker.  Now that's a family vacation!

Derelict.....but still distinctive Hunt!
Even in total disrepair, the signature Hunt Deep V hull demands respect!  This old Bertram has seen better days, but the Hunt Deep V still earns the front row of this boat yard.  EVERYONE LOVES A HUNT!  Project anyone?

November on the Chesapeake Bay !
Fall is a fabulous time to be on the water here in the Chesapeake. I took this photo while underway recently aboard a client's new Surfhunter 29 I was delivering to Oxford.  Wind WSW 18-25 with a mild but confused sea left over from Sandy.  Nary a drop of spray came aboard while I maintained an easy and comfortable 21-24 kts.! The engine driven bus heater I had on blowing in the enclosed bridgedeck helped a lot too.
Earlier in the day I had delivered another client's quality make 28 footer from Oxford to Annapolis...with constant spray coming aboard and the wipers on nearly full time.  The ride was nice...but wet....very wet.
On this day decided the best way for me to sell these boats is to take folks for ride on a day like the one pictured....first on some other boat, and then a Hunt.  I've driven pretty much every brand and type of boat out there, and the Hunt, hands down, is the best running boat on the water.  I can talk till I'm blue in the face about how great these boats are, but until you experience it first hand, and compare it to something else, you'll never fully appreciate the difference a Hunt Deep V hull makes.
Anybody ready for a ride?

Nice review of the new Hunt 44...but it only scratched the surface of all the great features of this amazingly large yet agile 44 foot motoryacht.  This boat is a game changer, and if you haven't already taken a close look at the Hunt 44, please call me.

We talk a lot about our Hunt Deep V hull design, how well it performs and handles, and the inherent effeciency and other desireable seakeeping characteristics.  Sometimes we can't see the forest for the trees though, and it takes a client who uses and loves his boat send me a photo to remind me of what it's all about.
Sunset on the Choptank River with your family.  Priceless!
