“Honestly, I don’t know much about it. But they probably have their own language, right?” He smiled, delighted that she seemed to get his naming choice. “Like a miniature version, yes, but not at all diminished.”

“But that’s cheating. I’m trying to create the perfect s’more. You know, not too undercooked, not too burnt.” He sighed, shifting his position to prepare another marshmallow. “I’m gonna try again.”

It was a nice day to be on the beach, with everything being on the more calm side. He could deal with a resort, it wasn’t like he was competing.  Seph was paying attention to the clouds and closing his eyes as he listened to the sound of the ocean. He didn’t realize that there was another. Looking down, he paused as he saw the small hermit crab. “I’ve never seen one before.” Seph looked closely at the other’s hand “It’s so small.” Looking around to see if there were any more hermit crabs. “You going to return it back here?” he stated with a small smile.

“Oh?” His lips curled upwards, somehow a little delighted that he was helping the other experience something new. At least, Noire knew he himself would be a somewhat excited if he were in Seph’s shoes. “I might. It’s his natural habitat after all. Wanna hold it?”

The smell of something burning brought Pax back from his daze, and as he glanced over at the end of the stick he was holding, he groaned. “Oh, crud. So I think I incinerated my s’more.”

           ❝ hmm, i don’t know, ❞   she gave a closer look at the hermit crab,   ❝ but it seems to be enjoying itself for now so maybe you can play with it a little longer.  ooh, you should name it before it leaves! ❞

“I wonder if hermit crabs actually already have names. It’d be fun if they had their own naming traditions,” he said, a small smile coming to his face as he tried to imagine how the hermit crab world actually worked, or if that was even a thing in itself. “Well, what about Kraken?”

           ❝ oh, yeah!  i forgot daemons are all fancy and don’t get hungry. ❞   she couldn’t stop herself from laughing at the visual of elio inhaling his food,   ❝ oh, my god.  that’s so amazing, i have to see this.  so you don’t chew at all? ❞

“That’s a fancy thing?” Elio never thought of it that way. Food was a luxury. Being hungry and getting sated should be the fancy thing. At her question, he laughed. “Okay, not literally like Kirby! But I have been told I should chew more.”

           ❝ oh, for sure!  if anything i can just magic us to be hungry again so we try everything before we leave but that’s, like, a last resort.  we can totally do this without cheats. ❞

“Oh, I don’t get hungry anymore. I just crave things.” In some ways, he kind of missed being hungry—which was strange, since it was always an unpleasant sensation, but perhaps the daemon was sentimental for just a moment. In a snap, he was back to his jolly self, though. “But you’re right! We can totally do this without cheats. I’ve heard someone say I eat like Kirby. I didn’t know who that was, so I looked it up and… well, they’re not wrong!”

“Yeah. Hey, you know I’ve recently read an article on creepy twins. You and Nat should be on the list,” he teased, giving his sister a pat on the back in return. Hearing about Kyu though, his brows raised slightly. “We… don’t? This is news to me. Wow. Was I kicked out of the family group chat or something?”

Peter knew he ought to do better at letting loose and relaxing, so this forced vacation was probably a blessing in disguise. Still, he couldn’t help himself from checking in with all the members. When he happens up Noire, however, he was happy to see him hanging out with a little sea creature. “Do you think you’re ready to take care of a hermit crab all by yourself?” he joked.

“You know what, you have a point. To be honest, I don’t really know much about hermit crabs. Are they high maintenance? I’m probably not qualified.” He lets out a small chuckle. “Do you have any tips? You seem to be the expert at taking care of people around here.”

           margo stared at the ocean, unable to stop herself from recalling the time when she used to be terrified of it.  though, that was when she was much younger.  over all it was silly, just because she was a phoenix it didn’t mean she should fear the water.  her attention eventually drifted to noire as he befriended the creature.   ❝ i don’t know, it looks like you’re the chosen one, ❞   she replied, gesturing to the hermit crab walking along his palm,   ❝ i think this means you’re it’s mom now. ❞

Noire chuckled. He hadn’t expected the response she gave, but he felt amusement towards it nonetheless. “You think it knows?” he asked, eyes still on the little hermit crab. “I’d like to think that it likes my palm, but honestly, I’m not sure. For all I know, it could be trying to run away.” He held his other hand up, trying to see if the creature would move from one palm to the other.

      “Woahh.. it’s so tiny!” Nadia peeked over the boy’s shoulder even more to keep the small crustacean in sight. She pursed her lips at the question, blowing some hair out of her face as she thought. “What if it has a family… oh! I know! It might be a dad hermit crab, and has six kids waiting for him back in the ocean and if we take him they’ll get lost! Nope… best to let him be.”

“Oh, I would never want to separate a dad hermit crab from his kids,” he said, going along with her story despite not really knowing whether any part of it was even correct. He glanced over at Nadia, a small smile on his lips. “Well, want to hold him before we set him free?”

“You and Nat? Separated? Never heard of it. You guys never did torment me individually,” Pax said with a chuckle, shaking his head, before he glanced over at his sister. “Wait, what does Kyu have to do with this?”

❝ still can’t believe they tried to separate me from nat. i was this close to just straight up destroying kyu. what did they expect? ❞

Noire wasn’t exactly a resort person—his idea of the perfect vacation didn’t involve this much sun. Nonetheless, he was open to enjoying his time here. Spotting something in the sand in front of him, he knelt down to pick it up, and when he sensed someone looming over him, he held his hand out, showing them the small hermit crab crawling over his open palm. “They’re kind of interesting to watch, don’t you think?” he asked, looking at the other person through sunglasses that covered nearly half his face. He wasn’t taking them off until sundown. “Should I adopt it for a day, or do you think its friends will come for me?”

“You think there’d be enough time for us to go through everything? Because I’m already sure I have the appetite for it.”

Flipping through the room service menu, Elio’s grin widened. “Wow, they have everything in here! We could have a feast!”

           ❝ no, not really, ❞   honestly, the only thing she paid attention to in school were the training classes as education was never her forte.  ❝ ew, why would i have a crush on you? ❞   she gave faux sound of nausea, a common sound she made around thorn.   ❝ y’know, you mention crushes a lot around me.  are you sure you’re not the one who likes me? ❞   it didn’t take her any time to answer his question, she already knew why she was doing this,   ❝ just entertainment.  it brings some spice to the building. ❞

“Yeah, I didn’t expect you to.” He knew Charla wasn’t exactly stupid per se, but he would never describe her as book-smart. At her words, it was Thorn’s turn to make the faux-nausea sound, complete with a scowl. “I’m two hundred percent sure, Charla. If I somehow get stuck in a world where it’s just you and me, I still wouldn’t like you.” He huffed. “Why can’t you just have a normal hobby?”

           she laughed along with him before tilting her head as she took in his looks along with his shuffled hair, taking his question seriously,   ❝ i think you look the same.  which is a good thing cause you usually look good. ❞   she mirrored his gesture as she matched his energy.  she always appreciated how fun he made things.   ❝ your mind!  i’ll be sure to pitch it if she asks.  do you think it would be cheating if we just ate all the bad guys instead of beating them up? ❞

He grinned. “Thank you! You look great too!” He shook his head, just to let his hair settle a bit, but maybe he’ll keep the shuffled look first since Margo said it looked good anyway. At her question, he let out a laugh. “You know what, I don’t know! I thought the whole point of this was to eat some candy!”
