(Slightly belated) happy birthday/ 誕生日おめでとう to Kechi-kun, the detective prince 2.0! A complex and emotional character that helped me to make sense of some of my own personal storms. Helped me understand myself more deeply.

And now, here's an impromptu scene based on my art here.

As Goro returns home, he's immediately greeted with bright sounds and colorful confetti.

"Ren, we talked abou--"

Ren interrupts Goro mid sentence by popping a party favor in his mouth. Making a surprised noise, he ends up doing so through the party favor, a cartoonish sound following as the colorful paper uncurls. Ren smirks triumphantly.

"Am I turning 5?" Goro grumbles, straining to keep an annoyed and tired expression as he meets Ren's bright grey eyes.

Ren, who's chuckling in amusement, "You always look so cute when you want to kill me."

Blushing lightly, Goro rolls his auburn eyes.

Ren makes another move. There's a quick flash of color, but before Goro has a chance to identify the object, Ren is clipping something into his honey brown hair.

"What now?" Goro huffs, straining and nearly failing to hold back his smile. Reaching at his hair, he feels the clipped in accessories, recognizing the cone shape as paper party hats.

Ren grins playfully, telling Goro that his person is already fully aware of his attempt to hold back that smile. With warmth in auburn eyes and amusement in his smirk, "You're ridiculous." He says fondly.

"Happy birthday," Ren hums affectionately, wrapping his person in an embrace. With a soft sigh, Goro melts into the hug. But then something convinces him to shift.

"Um.." Goro stares behind Ren with a hesitant tone. "The not-cat seems to be possessed." Chuckling, Ren turns to see the black and white cat peeking from behind the couch. His bright blue eyes have a glint of what seems like mischief, but Ren knows better.

"It's Ren-ren's fault!" Morgana yowls grumpily, as he hops onto a nearby chair. "He said I couldn't have any of the sushi or cookies until you got home!"

"Oh, your poor thing," Goro drawls sarcastically as he scritches under the feline's chin.

"Whatever!" Morgana puffs out his fluffy chest in an attempt to seem defiant. He just looks adorable, though. Then Ren chimes in and those bright feline eyes are wide with sparkles.

"You can eat now," Ren starts. Morgana immediately guns it to the kitchen, and grey eyes widen. Ren calls out as he starts to follow, "Wait, but let Goro pick his favorites first!"

Listening to the mix of bickering and joking that follows, Goro sighs contentedly.

"OW! Mona!" Ren yelps from in the kitchen.

"THE FATTY TUNA IS MINE!" Morgana yowls.

Chuckling softly to himself, Goro takes a moment to think in awe. His life is strikingly different compared to when he and Ren first met.

The former detective never expected to have his birthdays celebrated. Never expected to live this long. And what's even more shocking...

Goro hums into the party favor, creating a comical cartoonish sound, as he joins the other two by the spread Ren had organized.

Warmth blooms in his chest, as Goro quietly watches Ren readying plates for everyone. Morgana's is just fatty tuna sushi, and nothing else. It's not a surprise to any of the three. Ren has a variety for his, and he easily puts together a collection he knows Goro enjoys.

Balloons fill the space, as confetti decorates the floor. Some colorful flakes cling to his clothes.

Ren laughs softly at something Morgana says. Then he turns his head to meet Goro's gaze with a playful smirk.

Goro never thought he'd have a safe space or people to belong with. He remembers distantly, a moment from his childhood. It was his first birthday since his mother had passed, and he had wished for a home.

It took a while, but, his wish finally came true.

I'm home.

Don D rolls eyes, "Well, he certainly wasn't using it anymore. Reduce, reuse, recycle, yeah?"

Goofy just as shocked as Sora, "Well, garwsh, Donald... The body's still warm, a-HYUK."

Some advice for when you’re writing and find yourself stuck in the middle of a scene:

kill someone

ask this question: “What could go wrong?” and write exactly how it goes wrong

switch the POV from your current character to another - a minor character, the antagonist, anyone

stop writing whatever scene you’re struggling with and skip to the next one you want to write

write the ending

write a sex scene

use a scene prompt

use sentence starters

read someone else’s writing

Never delete. Never read what you’ve already written. Pass Go, collect your $200, and keep going.
