There’s something so fucking disgusting about the fact that Katniss’s dad pulled Peeta’s dad (?) out of harms way at the 50th reaping only for their kids to end up in the games together….

burdock everdeen hurt otho mellark’s leg in order to save his life. without this action peeta mellark would not exist and katniss everdeen would not have become the mockingjay. katniss everdeen hurt peeta mellark’s leg in order to save his life. without this act peeta mellark would not exist and katniss everdeen would not have become the mockingjay.

Comparing Haymitch and Katniss' narrative styles is so funny to me because he's a yapper and she's a gatekeeper. He drops more lore on D12 in the first two chapters of SOTR than she does in the entire trilogy.
Haymitch is like "Yeah, so this person is related to this person who's related to this person and things are this way because of this and this thing actually came from here and this person is actually my best friend and also here's this extra tidbit of random info cause all my lore dropping comes with it's own additional bonus content and all my unnecessary commentary."
And Katniss is over here like "Tf do I care for if y'all know all the lore of District 12? I'm talking about my beautiful husband's beautiful eyelashes."

Just a reminder that we don’t know all the good things Katniss does/did for her community, because Katniss wouldn’t tell us unless it was relevant to what was going on.
In Catching fire, she doesn’t tell us that she’s being going around and bringing food to poor children in the seam until she needs to explain why she had a bag of food and why her mother wouldn’t find that odd.
Tumblr media
In the first book, when she’s telling Peeta about the story of how she got Prims goat, she refuses to admit that this wasn’t a selfish move so she could get money out of that goat. (You could also argue that this is her refusing to be vulnerable in front of Peeta and all of Pamen though. I think it’s both, because she doesn’t even admit that she did this purely for her sister in her internal dialogue.)
Tumblr media
And in Mockingjay, she never tells us that she’s the one that got Haymitch the goose eggs to help him heal after the games. All she says in the epilogue is that Haymitch raises geese when the liquor runs out. And we would never know otherwise if Haymitch didn’t mention that SHE was the one who got him the geese in sotr.

Katniss pulled out the berries to save Peeta’s life (he was bleeding to death) and played that gamble so that the Capitol would either announce both of them winners or let them both die, therefore freeing her from living with the grief of losing him either way, and there are still people who act like her rebellion in that moment can be separated from her love for Peeta. No, it can’t.

Dear video essay creators. A video analysis is when you analyze a piece of media. No no look at me. A summary, no matter how thorough, is not an analysis. An analysis requires you to draw conclusions about the media such as authorial intent, real-world parallels, discussion about themes/worldbuilding/character motivation, and so much more. You have to stop summarizing something and saying that’s analysis. The Gaylors are doing more critical analysis than you. Is that who you want to lose to? The gaylors?

I can’t believe it’s 2025 and there are still people saying Peeta was useless to Katniss in their first games.
Oh, I’m sorry, do you mean the same games when he took on a trained career and SAVED HER LIFE?! Which almost killed him, and later cost him his leg? Seriously, Katniss wasn’t the only one saving his life in these books, he also saved hers time and time again.
I honestly think the people who dislike Peeta as a character just can’t stand seeing compassionate and soft male characters, because even when they do those “traditionally masculine” things, like physically protecting the women in their lives, it still isn’t enough.
Apparently not being a brooding asshole, like so many other YA love interests, is a character flaw. SMH.

Re reading the original hunger games is so funny bcus katniss can literally read haymitch's mind like what. I'm dying of thirst but haymitch hasn't sent me water, that must mean that there's some nearby!! And one kiss is one pot of broth!! Like she even acknowledges that it's strange when she's like oh to peeta this would just be a pot of broth. Haymitch will give her one look and katniss knows immediately what he means and she's right every time
Meanwhile peeta is like your dress really suits you and you look nice :) and katniss is like he's trying to kill me

The Hunger Games has the FUNNIEST arranged marriage of all time btw. Katniss realizes she'll have to marry Peeta and she's obviously upset so Haymitch tries to comfort her by saying "you could do a lot worse" and Katniss is like "well DUH of course I could do worse than Peeta he's the best & handsomest person on the face of the planet but that's not the POINT I want to be able to choose for MYSELF". Then she goes and chooses Peeta anyway lol. Comedy gold I tell you

"Do you know what this means? We'll have the whole day to ourselves."
"It's too bad we can't go somewhere," I say wistfully.
"Who says we can't?" he asks.
The roof. We order a bunch of food, grab some blankets, and head up to the roof for a picnic. A daylong picnic in the flower garden that tinkles with wind chimes. We eat. We lie in the sun. I snap off hanging vines and use my newfound knowldge from training to practice knots and weave nets. Peeta sketches me. We make up a game with the force field that surrounds the roof - one of us throws an apple into it and the other person has to catch it.
No one bothers us. By late afternoon, I lie with my head on Peeta's lap, making a crown of flowers while he fiddles with my hair, claiming he's been practicing his knots. After a while, his hands go still. "What?" I ask.
"I wish I could freeze this moment, right here, right now, and live in it forever," he says.
Usually this sort of comment, the kind that hints of his undying love for me, makes me feel guilty and awful. But I feel so warm and relaxed and beyond worrying about the future I'll never have, I just let the word slip out. "OK."
I can hear the smile in his voice. "Then you'll allow it?"
"I'll allow it," I say.
