with love. you have to fact check shit. yes you. you still have to fact check shit. a lot of people are great at fact checking stuff they don’t want to be true, but somehow are still absolute ass at fact checking stuff that’s rhetorically convenient to them. even people my age, who I KNOW grew up doing internet/bibliography literacy workshops, and being warned not to believe anything that isn’t reliably sourced, people who DO harp on fact checking conservative output or whatever, are still kneejerk sharing unsourced shit that is partially or wholly untrue or misleading, because it suits whatever narrative they’re pursuing in that moment, without even a “take this with a grain of salt”. fact check!!!!!! look at the sources!!!!! yes it’s a drag!!! do it!!!!!

they’re doing “is shaving feminist” discourse on twitter right now and we all know my thoughts on it. no need to do this again. but i will say. if our most “progressive/leftist feminist” women cannot wrap their heads around the concept of shaving being a tool of the patriarchy aimed to control women’s bodies that we should be ultimately working to discard. then maybe we should all just line up and sh**t ourselves. maybe there’s no hope for women after all.

What was it that Baron said to Riz? That his friends will never see as more than the little thing that finds the clues? That they will never understand him? Because I’ve got to imagine that’s not just a sentiment that applies only to Riz among goblins. That even the people who don’t see goblins as monsters see them as sub-person. As weird little creatures to be amused at.

In the first season, Sklonda talks about getting drinks with her coworkers but none of them seem to be there for her when her pension is stolen. Pok literally died for Solace and his widow and child don’t have enough milk between them for two bowls of cereal. We don’t know much about Sklonda’s family but we know Pok’s dad was an immigrant who worked for the police department around the clock, sacrificing his relationship with his family for his job.

A whole family legacy of giving everything to people who treat you like shit. To people who only care about what you can do for them. To people who don’t see you as a full person.

And we and Riz KNOW that the bad kids love him. Fabian crashed a boat in desperation to find him and ate glass. Fig writes him notes about how loved and appreciated he is and doesn’t even sign them as herself. Kristen gave her last greater restoration to save Riz instead of herself. We know that. Riz has come to know that.

But Sklonda doesn’t see any of that. Sklonda just sees Riz creating study and college plans for them, and helping their presidential campaigns, and taking on stress for them when otherwise he would have no stress. Sklonda hears them call him The Ball and isn’t that SO funny? GET IT? Ya know, CAUSE HE’S SMALL AND THEREFORE NOT LIKE THE REST OF US?

Just… Sklonda breaking a toxic generational cycle by leaving the police department and thinking her son is falling back into it. Of giving everything to a thankless job just for the chance to be accepted when you never will be.

Meanwhile, what is actually happening is Riz is following in a completely different family tradition: working night and day and tirelessly and self-sacrificing for his family.

The zelda gorgug thing is pretty interesting in sophomore year because Brennan is really just holding Zac to his word and showing the consequences for not prioritizing certain things. We see in that season ally prioritize tracker, and later we see (and with previous relationships like gilear) Emily prioritizing ayda. Zac face palms when Zelda brings up the generator because he realizes he did say he was gonna do that, and then he got distracted despite Breann constantly asking “hey so does anyone wanna run a scene before we move on”, and now if Zac’s invested in gorgug’s relationships he has to pay for dropping the ball. It only sucks because Zac does care about gorgug’s relationships. If he didn’t he wouldnt be bothered and Brennan wouldnt hold him to it. It’s a very interesting demonstration of player agency and the world being real and affected by what they do or don’t do. Sometimes story beats can feel inevitable, like they’re playing on a track, but fantasy high in particular esp through season 3 shows that EVERY decision matters and changes EVERYTHING and the world bends to the interest and focus of the players. Very cool stuff happening
