1. Zuri
Zuri is the granddaughter of Bob Marley, but her music is not what you’d expect. Zuri’s debut single, “Beg For It” is the perfect introduction to her electro-pop sound. Infused with soulful vocals, triggering production and a catchy chorus --  I simply cannot get this out of my head.

2. Cautious Clay
The moment I heard Cautious Clay’s “Cold War” I knew he was special. The first 10 seconds into the song, I was intrigued by his melodic beats. Then came his soulful vocals and poetic lyrics which solidified why I loved it. Cautious Clay further showcases his songwriting and vocal ability with the release of his debut EP, ‘Blood Type’. He has a sound that appeals to many and I am confident Cautious Clay will be an important artist to watch in 2018.

3. ALASKALASKA
6 piece band from London, ALASKALAKA reinforces their experimental sound with the release of “Meateater”. They artfully blend dreamy alternative pop, disco and jazz elements with a touch of sax that is instantly captivating. Reminds me of Classix + Polica, I dig this.  Video is retro, very fitting to their music.

4. Still Woozy
Based in the Bay Area, Still Woozy is a one of my favorite artists I’ve recently discovered. I love his single, “Goodie Bag” because it simply evokes emotion. His blend of melancholic tones with warbled guitars and dreamy vocals make you feel good, happy, and sad all at once. Still Woozy recently sold out his LA show at The Moroccan and will be opening for The Projectors. I am excited to see his growth in 2018.

5. Steve Lacy
With the release of his solo debut project, Steve Lacy continues to rise alongside his band members of The Internet. Mostly produced with his iphone, Steve Lacy’s demo is fluid and concise with complex productions. “Dark Red” from the project stands out to me the most because it simply has the melody where you don’t want it to end.

6. Moontower
Moontower’s debut single, “William” is a great introduction to their indie, electronic, pop sound. Based in LA, Moontower has performed at major colleges Iike UCLA, USC and UCSD and have created a buzz with their live shows.  Already having shared the stage with artists like Yungblud, I look forward to seeing their live performance next time they’re around.

to break in 2018...
To me, an artist has “broke” when they’ve gained a loyal fan base, headlined tours, and established mainstream recognition.  Once these are achieved, a demand (and business) for the artist is created.
An excellent example is Logic. Through mixtapes and fan interaction early in his career, Logic developed a loyal following that led to a World Tour.  Three years later, he became a household name with the release of “1-800-273-8255,” a song that earned him Grammy nomination and performance. Excelling in all 3 areas, there’s no doubt Logic is a “broken” artist.  Cardi B is a great example too.  She gained mainstream attention with her viral hit single “Bodak Yellow,” which led to headlining performances and a #1 album on Billboard.
These are two big examples - not all artists will break on this level. However, fans, tours and visibility are all measurements I use to determine the level of an artist’s success in 2018.

1. Billie Eilish
With the release of her debut album, ‘Don’t Smile at Me’ the world was introduced to an undeniably talented, Billie Eilish. Not only can she sing and perform, she has a dynamic vision that’s paved the way for herself. Quickly gaining popularity, Billie has already sold out tours and built a loyal fan base. It’s clear she had a big year in 2017. However, I’m confident that the upcoming year will be even bigger.

3. Anne-Marie
Former Rudimental’s vocalist, Anne-Marie, debuted a solo album fused with electro, r&b, and pop.  Although she’s established a following in the UK with her #1 Clean Bandit’s single, “Rockabye”, Anne-Marie is picking up traction in the US.  Receiving mainestream visibility with her single, “FRIENDS" in the top 10 at US Pop Radio, 2018 will be pivotal for her career.

4. Rex Orange County
UK artist, Rex Orange County, has a way of infusing hip hop, soul, jazz and electronica-pop. Featured on Tyler the Creator’s 2017 album, ‘Flowerboy’, Rex created a buzz that led to performances with Frank Ocean and Skepta. Picking up more traction with the release of his single, “Loving is Easy” and performing at major festivals, Rex Orange County will continue to climb the ranks in 2018.

5. Bazzi
Making his debut under Atlantic Records, Bazzi’s album, ‘Cosmic’ is a solid introduction to his R&B, pop sound. With his viral single, “Mine”, Bazzi is gaining more supporters on top of his million followers he established from Vine. He supported Camila Cabello on her Never Be The Same Tour and is set to headline his own shows this year. Without a doubt, 2018 will be a very important year for Bazzi.
