When she didn’t receive an answer, she fell silent again, deciding it would be best to let him collect himself. This wasn’t a conversation to be had in public and she didn’t want her inner demons to ruin this day for her. If he didn’t love her, he wouldn’t have come back. If she had done something to offend him so badly, he probably would have left her where she was sitting.
Confidence, Emily… Breathe….
As soon as she was back in the safety of her home, she found it far easier to be calm. This was their safe place, and she had scarcely had the chance to put her things on the floor before she felt him weakening against her. Her arms instinctively pulled him close, nuzzling into the top of his head and breathing in a deep sigh of relief. Whatever was going on, she was glad that he was here - and safe.
“Mm…?”
She murmured against the top of his head before her eyes shot open in alarm. She had known he had some sort of secret he had been keeping since they had met, but she had so far kept from prodding him about it. Whatever it was, she really had no clues up until this point.
“Flak…” she slowly maneuvered him over to the couch, feeling him shaking and worrying that he might collapse soon if she didn’t get him off of his feet. Once he was safely seated, she pulled a throw blanket Dorothy had gifted her over his shoulders before her loving gaze once again fell on his face. She could see that he was really worried and upset, and her heart clenched in her chest as she reached out to gently caress his cheek. “Truthfully, I can’t think of almost anything you could do that would make me love you any less. I mean, unless maybe you were out cheating on me the last few months, but… I know you well enough to know that isn’t the case….”
With gentle hands, she guided him closer and once again wrapped his trembling body into a warm embrace, kissing the top of his head before she added. “Whatever your secret is, just know that you can trust me. I’ve never been in love before, I’ve never felt anything this… Strong before… But something like this… I don’t think anything you say could possibly change the way I feel about you.”
Thankful, he was so so very thankful for Emily. Here she was, helping his weak body onto the couch instead and then curling up with him. He felt real bliss with her.
He was so vulnerable. So ready to spill it all for her, in a position where he could do nothing if she responded poorly. Yet that didn’t seem to deter him in anyway.
Was this the strength of his love for her?
or stupidity?
Flak huffed out a breath of derision as he sank into the couch cushion, turning to hook his fingers into Emily’s clothes and hold her closer. “Hn... no one else has my attention like you do... Certainly no one in the world I’d be with other than you...” He assured her sleepily, feelings and magic exertion taking their toll oh his body now.
Flak worked his jaw, buying himself a little more time. Goddess, he hoped she really truly meant that.
But what could he tell her? He had to get something out, something...
“I-...” ‘m a Sprite? No... I’m hundreds of years old? I’ll outlive you in the blink of an eye? Nothing sounded right! Every word felt wrong on his tongue, so he swallowed and closed his eyes tight.
Just let the pieces fall...
“I’m a pirate.” He whispered finally, eyes firmly shut. “I’ve fought... I’ve stolen, I’ve cheated people, I’ve-I’ve turned my back on humanity--I named my ship after my own Mother and used it to lead a life of crime! What kind of person does that make me?” Flak’s voice rose more and more as he went on, tone becoming harsh and desperate.
Oh how it’d be so easy if she just made him leave this moment. He would crawl back to his ship and sail away to inhabit the waters alone again, just him, his ship, and his sins and lies heavy on his back.
“What-- what kind of person does that make me in your eyes?”

stardewemily:
Now Emily knew something was wrong. The smile fell from her face as he pulled himself away, tears still seeming to be freely flowing down his partially hidden cheeks. Her chest ached and her brows knitted in concern as she followed his movements with uncertain violet eyes.
Did I say something wrong…?
The thought made her suddenly self-conscious, but she had no time to worry about her own feelings in this instance. She could feel the hot dampness of tears on her collarbone and the top of her chest and she found her hand making it’s way to his head, lightly stroking the soft green hair in an attempt to be comforting.
“Flak…? Did I.. Do something wrong…?”
Her words were barely above a whisper, as she wasn’t even sure if she should be saying anything at that moment. However, he broke the silence with a question of his own and she took in a breath before she finally answered.

“Right… Probably best not to be sitting around in the snow if we don’t want to get sick….” she conceded, her voice still much quieter than usual, but she forced that usual peppiness into her words, “Let’s go home. I’ll make us some tea or hot cocoa and we can sit in front of the fire place. Whatever’s bugging you, you can tell me about it when we get there, okay?”
Although it was hard to suppress the feeling of fear that was starting to make goosebumps appear up and down her arms, she tried her best to hide it behind a calm, steady voice. One thing she had always been good at is pretending she was okay, no matter how much fear or sorrow was eating her alive on the inside.
Flak did his damnedest to collect himself enough to reach out and recollect all of the jewels he dropped at their sides, shoving them into his pockets all while still having his head tipped down to press against Emily’s chest. There was her life source, where her warmth radiated, the heart she was so determined to give to him.
The lie that she thought he was.
He shoved away the gifts, securing Emily’s purse and heels in her lap before wrapping his arms around her waist once more. He only had enough for just one jump.
“Hold on to me.” He instructed, placing one hand flat against the ground before tightening his whole body, sucking in a deep breath. He clenched his teeth and...
He blinked, looking down. Below them, carpet. The air felt warm in a instant and Flak heard movement in the corner, followed by a curious squawk. He hummed weakly, letting out his breath again to find himself left panting. “Hey Hope...”
Then Flak tipped forward and buried his face against Emily’s neck, going slack. He felt exhausted now, weak and warm. But...
“Emily...” He whispered so soft he wasn’t sure if she’d heard or not. He continued regardless.
“...If i told you something, a secret I’ve been keeping... Something you won’t be proud of me for... Something I’ve done wrong... Would you still love me?” His voice was still shaky, but he felt more weak than anything now. But he had to get this out, he couldn’t keep it all in anymore. She didn’t deserve that.

stardewemily:
Every time she heard him disparage himself like that, it made Emily’s heart feel like it was breaking. She knew he still held secrets from her - they had discussed it in the past and she hadn’t forgotten it. But whenever he got so down on himself, she couldn’t help but wonder what had happened to him before they had met.
Someone could have hurt him - or he could have hurt someone else… But really, it didn’t matter to her what had happened in his past. The man - or dwarf - in front of her was someone she had come to love and cherish since they had first met; he was kind and gentle and she would have given anything to take away his doubts and his pain.
If only her feelings to could truly be passed along with the touch of her lips as she leaned into his lips, eager to let him know how much he meant to her. And it seemed he was just as hungry for this as she was, his touch warming her, despite the fact they were still outside in the snowy weather. All of her loneliness, all of her self-doubt over the last few months - none of it mattered anymore.
If she knew, if she knew, if she knew... Those thoughts were all that circled in his mind, over and over on repeat. If she knew you were a pirate, if she knew you’ve stolen from people, if she knew you left your family, if she knew you turned your back on humanity, if she knew all the lies you had, if she knew what you were!
Would she love you if she knew you were immortal? If you’d never die at her side? Would she love you if she knew you weren’t a dwarf? That you weren’t even really born? Just a being of magic that couldn’t exist otherwise.
Would she still love you if she knew what you were?
A pathetic, little Sprite.
Flak choked on a sob against Emily’s lips, but just kissed back more fervently. His fingers dug into the wood underhand, splintering it apart, digging into his fingertips.
Forever
Forever
Forever for her
Was nothing to him.
He forced himself away, head hanging to hide his red-rimmed eyes with his bangs. He pressed his lips to her collarbone instead, resting there for a moment to breath.
“Ship or home?” He asked quietly. It was cold. He didn’t want to be in the open anymore. He felt exposed, so exposed.
But not enough.
He wanted to tell her something. Admit one secret. A bad one, but not the worse, but he wanted to be close, keep touching her skin, feel her heartbeat against him. Would she still let him hold her when he told her?

stardewemily:
“Hey, you really don’t have to do that!” Emily gaped at him in alarm, trying to protest when he started wrapping her muddy feet in his scarf. She didn’t want it to get covered in dirt, but she gave up rather quickly, knowing there wasn’t going to be any talking him out of this. Besides, it really did feel nice against her skin. She hadn’t noticed how cold they had gotten, but she definitely noticed how warm they suddenly felt. It stung a little, but she wasn’t going to complain when she knew it was her own fault. At least it didn’t feel like she’d stepped on any glass or rocks.
An amused smile tugged at her lips, warmth spreading through her at his affectionate teasing. It was easy to forget sometimes that he wasn’t human. In this case, she didn’t mind being called strange. If he loved her as she was, being strange wasn’t something she would worry about anymore.
“Thank you. I got a little over excited…” she felt a bit embarrassed by it now. She could have set things aside nicely, but she would have flung everything she had to the side if it meant getting to him quickly. And it seemed he had been feeling the same way, and she realized she hadn’t even looked to see what all he had dropped upon seeing her. Seeing it now, her eyes widened in amazement. It wasn’t that easy to obtain gemstones, not for her anyway, and she couldn’t help but be impressed.
“Wait - you don’t have to apologize!” she insisted, waving her hands back and forth in protest, although she really was grateful she was being offered so many stones, after losing her collection in the fire. “Hey, your brother was in trouble. I understand that. I would go to the ends of the Earth to help my sister, too, so…”
Her eyebrows rose and then knitted together with worry as she watched the changes in his facial expressions. “Hey —” she reached out toward him, feeling as if her heart might break from the anguished looked on his face. He looked so vulnerable and she hated to think that he had been worrying about the exact same thing she had been all this time - abandonment. One of the worst feelings she had come to know in her thirty years on this Earth. “Flak…. I’m not going anywhere, I promise…” she shifted, nudging him closer until she could pull him up into her arms and holding him close to her heart, where he belonged. “It’s sweet that you wanted to bring things back for me, but bringing yourself back is the only gift I needed. I love you, silly dwarf!”
Taking one of his trembling hands in her own, she raised it to her face and leaned into it before placing a gentle kiss on the back of it.
Flak chuckled weakly, still feeling on the edge of tears, but goddess did he feel warm inside so close to her. And she said those words. It could be the first or the last time he could ever hear those words from her and it’d feel the same every time.
His heart beat so erratically in his chest and he felt weak, his breath shallow, cheeks and ears glowing with warmth. Goddess he didn’t deserve this life. When she pressed her cherry lips to his skin, he was surprised flowers didn’t sprout from the point of contact. He wanted nothing more, he’d give up everything for her now; every gem he owned, he’d give his ship, his pirate life he’d abandon in an instant, his life itself he’d lay down for her.
Maybe even moreso than for his Goddess.
“I...” His voice trembled. “I don’t deserve your love.” He bemoaned quietly before suddenly raising his head again and pushing himself forward, catching her lips in his. He felt dizzy at the touch, reaching a hand up to card into her gorgeous sapphire hair. She tasted like peace and a welcome home he didn’t deserve.
She said he was a sunflower...
He pulled her closer, leaning his weight on one hand to hover over her, reaching for her, touching her skin, feeling her life just under his fingers.
... But he was just the bee within...
Flak pulled away, tears down his face that didn’t even qualify for his attention. He breathed in shakily and spoke with a voice like a whimper.
... That, in the end, would be what stung her...
“I love you.”
... And he could never take that back.

demetersblizzard:
Jamie narrowed his eyes. Some of those things….sounded a lot like his own sentiments as well. Perhaps the sprite and him had more in common than he had originally thought. Especially with that bit about terrible humans, even adding a snort of agreement when he had mentioned that part. He continued to listen to Flak’s story, starting to understand more now why he had been so on the defensive. Although he agreed with Flak that it would be a little risky to be open about what he was, he couldn’t help but think how much he was putting on the line with keeping it secret as well if he really cared about life here.
“Yes…it would seem so. I suppose they think it’s good for us to have a taste of the ‘real world’-although I fail to understand why.” He snorted in response to their goddesses having similar ideas for them. His mother was always so optimistic about humanity, despite the terrible things they had done…..he couldn’t understand it. “Not that I mind being on my own and doin’ whatever. I just mind the people.” He said through gritted teeth, crossing his arms. Despite them having been at each others throats not long ago, it felt good to rant to someone who might understand. “I see….I get it. But that’s a lot to have hangin’ on the line, if ya got anyone close to you. I know it’s not the same for me as a demigod, since any human with half a brain wouldn’t try to do anything to me in terms of stealing my magic, since it ain’t even possible, and they’d be the ones endin’ up hurt. Then again, I’m overestimating them in terms of IQ I guess, but…” He said with a grumble. “But anyway. I don’t think too many people know I am one around here, but I don’t really hide it either if I’m asked.” He said, his icy gaze flitting to Flak again. “Secrets end badly. They can only be kept for so long…it always comes out, somehow, eventually. ” He said, frowning. “Not sayin’ you’re gonna be the same. Ya might carry it to your grave, for all I know. I ain’t gonna lecture ya. Then again, I guess if it came out and you were paranoid enough, you could just move…but ya sound attached to life here, I guess, for whatever reason.” He added, and then thought fora moment before narrowing his glowing gaze.
“So…I guess that depends. Are you really close to any humans around here….?” He asked, realizing that perhaps if he had any particularly close friendships or relationships, that could be difficult. It was easy to forget that not all people who weren’t human could establish relationships properly. He looked off and grunted a little to himself at the idea that he had somehow insulted himself. No, Jamie, it’s not an insult. It’s a compliment. He reassured himself.
Flak leaned his chin against his palm and cracked a small smile at the thought of the gentleness of their Goddess’. They were always so... optimistic and seemingly ignorant to the plight of humanity. It was almost enduring.
His smile fell.
Almost.
“I think it’s something about... wanting us to see what they see in humans. Something I guess I just missed.” He mused softly before shrugging and turning his attention back to Jamie. The thought crossed his mind for a moment... A few low intelligence pirates he’d encountered before could want their hands on a demigod. ...So would a few very powerful pirates... Very nefarious pirates...
“... Try to stay away from pirates. Some are idiotic and wouldn’t know what to do with you, but some are just... Ruthless.” He warned, then paused for a moment. “Though I don’t doubt the your mother has you equip with defensive wards or the like.”
Flak froze though, feeling a tight clench in his throat. Close humans... He could lie, he didn’t owe Jamie anything thus far. But... he felt a kinship with the man. Not just because they were both born of Goddess’s, although in different ways, but because they both seemed blind to what their Goddess’s stood for. And it had caused them their own rifts in life. That is why he felt such a closeness, and that is why he decided to he honest.
“... Just one. The only human I’ve met this far that actually made me believe they may be worth something.” He took a breath, reaching a hand up to chew his nail.
“My partner, Emily.”

stardewemily:
It felt like a weight had suddenly lifted off of her shoulders that she hadn’t even realized she had been carrying around. Worry had always been at the back of her mind, that something would happen to him or he’d decide not to return to her after reuniting with his family. It all seemed so silly now and she found herself chuckling softly as she stroked his hair with one of her hands.
Really, what was I so worried about…?
“And you’re the greatest thing to happen to me!” she softly replied, a playful grin crossing her face as she added, “So next time you have a long trip, I’m going with you.”
Before she could playfully scold him any further, she felt him pull away and the moment his question registered in her mind, she blinked and also looked down at her feet.
“Ah, about that - Oh!” she felt her face flush heavily, remembering the state she was in just as he surprised her and easily lifted her off her feet. It was hard not to be reminded of the poisoning incident before and she couldn’t help but smile a little more. He was always rescuing her it seemed, one way or another. Her arms looped around his neck, although her eyes darted away, expecting to be scolded herself now. “I carried them with me, they’re in the snow back there. I was in heels, since I just got off work and… I figured I might slip and twist an ankle or something if I ran in them. I actually didn’t feel much of the cold, I was uh…. Too focused on getting to you.”
She really did feel silly now, her face beet red as she stared at her toes. They definitely felt a bit on the numb side, but she could still wiggle them just fine at least.
Flak clicked his tongue at her in amusement, reaching up to to pull off his scarf. He walked over to his gangway and set Emily down carefully. There wasn’t any snow on the plank since it was put away before now. The dwarf stooped down then and carefully wrapped her feet in the enveloping warmth, happy that he had such a long scarf in the first place.
He stood again, happy with his work, and smiled lovingly at Emily. “Stay there you strange, silly human.” He whispered, tipping his head down to gently tap their foreheads together before pulling back again.
He sifted through the snow quickly, eager to be at her side again after such a long time. But first he gathered each of their tossed away belongings, returning her purse and shoes to her, then bashfully showing her his armful of jewels and gems he came across while away from her.
“I got sort of... carried away. But i wanted you to have these, as an apology for being gone so long and... a thank you.” He hesitated for a moment, smile wavering. “A uh... a thank you for... For taking me back again despite it.”
Amongst his collect were emerald and crystals and bright flowers, none that matched her beauty though. He swallowed. “You see I was... uh-- well I was... worried.” Flak’s smile fell into a trembling frown and he fell just the same, dropping to his knees in front of Emily and pressing his face to her lap.
“I-i-ii... was a-afraid you ww... wouldn’t want me back...” He admitted finally, voice shaking and he tried to disguise it with a laugh for a moment. It didn’t work. “So i... was going to... to beg..” He whimpered, holding up the gems as they slipped through his fingers to reveal trembling hands.

demetersblizzard:
Jamie followed Flak into his cabin, glad to be out of the slush for now. Snow was one thing, but sleet and freezing rain was another. He pulled the yellow hood of his rain poncho down, glad that his hair wasn’t really soaked, at least.
As he took a seat, he stared at the sprite strangely. What was this guy’s problem, exactly? Everything yelled sketch to him, but he didn’t really care about that. The curious question that burned in his head, was why? “It’s….fine, I guess.” He snorted, before listening to what else he had to say. He had to admit, it was interesting hearing from a Sprite who’s Goddess wasn’t his own. Jamie nodded as Flak spoke, and then tilted his head. “I see….why though, exactly? Like I said before, it’s not really too common to see sprites so far from their gods or goddesses, much less off livin’ a life and disguisin’ themselves.” He answered, his icy gaze that glowed in the dimness flitting around. At least, it sure looked like he had made a life for himself of some kind.
He looked back to him. “Huh, me? My mom told me she wanted more for me than life by a pond- to spread life elsewhere, and to make my own. So that’s what I’m tryin’ to do, more or less.” He muttered. To communicate with people and live a so called ‘normal’ life. He thought to himself, but didn’t tack on that part. He grunted a bit. “I react harshly….to lots of things, sometimes. But it just really shocked me, I guess, and since the sprites by my pond were a bit overprotective of me, I kinda figured you were one that had come to spy on me or somethin’.” He grumbled, glad that wasn’t the case, at least. “My mother goddess is back on the mainland. And no, I ain’t hidin’ from nothin’.” Except people who might bother me. He thought the to himself with an inward sneer, his pale blue glowering eyes then pinned on Flak. “I told ya my piece. What about you? And are you hidin’ from somethin?” He asked, tilting his head ever so slightly. This sprite was an odd one, to be sure. From the moment he had approached him, he had been on the defensive. Granted, he hadn’t necessarily approached him kindly, so one was naturally to be on the defensive but he certainly had gotten…carried away. Why was he so afraid to be found out as a harvest sprite?
Flak pursed his lips solemnly and looked away. Jamie was right, Sprites didn’t exist without their Goddess and they didn’t typically stray like he did. His eyes traveled the inside of his cabin. Much less turn to piracy...
“My Goddess gave me and my brothers magical jewelry with her magic imbued within, and sent us into the world to ‘experience our own lives like humans’. Nik and Nak returned, and... I did too eventually but I wasn’t happy. I hadn’t had a great experience. There are a lot of terrible humans I can across and... I decided I couldn’t stay at my Goddess’ side as she fruitlessly saved them time and time again.” Flak shrugged a shoulder. “Then I... left... She let me leave with a smile even. Since then I’ve lived on my own. Mostly...”
Flak finally looked back up at Jamie quietly. Sure, he didn’t mention eventually turning to a pirate or the years spent ostracizing himself from humanity and it’s cruelty... But he didn’t own his entire life story.
Flak did crack a smile though, this one feeling a little more genuine. “Looks like our Goddess’s have a lot of the same ideas, huh?”
“...I see. I’m sorry I startled you, but no, I’m not one of those Sprites so you don’t have to worry about that from me.” He assured. It’s natural that the Harvest Goddess would want her Sprites to protect her child, but it was clear they’d overstepped some boundaries.
Flak shook his head finally. “I’m not hiding anything, but think of what could happen if some bad people found out I’m a Harvest Sprite. I’m literally a culmination of Holy magic. Someone would rip me apart for an opportunity to get their hands on that magic. I have a life here and if my identity came out, I’d have to leave behind everything I’ve built here. That’s all.”
And he had Emily here... If she found out he’d lied to her about who he was, then had to leave...

stardewemily:
Under normal circumstances, Emily probably would have realized that running through the snow in her bare feet was not the best idea, but her mind was racing so fast that she hardly even noticed the cold. She had been waiting for months, and a little snow and her high heels were definitely not going to hold her back.
As soon as she got close enough to spot the ship in the distance, she felt her heart leap in her chest. He really was back! She wished she had been a bit more prepared, so she could have made herself look nicer than she surely looked right then, but at that point, she decided she would just have to make do with what she had.
Which was windswept hair, puffy eyes from the tears she kept trying to wipe away, flushed cheeks, and feet that were bare and probably covered in mud… But this was who she was, and considering the disarrayed states he had seen her in in the past, she had a feeling her unkempt appearance wasn’t going to frighten him off too easily.
“Flak!”
Emily was quick to toss her shoes and purse to the side as soon as she was close enough, not caring about where they fell. Nothing else mattered than getting to him as quickly as possible and she practically launched herself into his arms.
“I’m so glad you’re home, and you’re safe!” she wasn’t sure if she was crying or laughing or a bit of both, but she wrapped her arms around him with all her might. He was warm and he was in one piece and she was so damn happy that he was here now. “I missed you so much! I was starting to get scared that you weren’t coming back!”
Flak held her tight, relishing in her warmth and scent. What was he worried about? All that mattered in that moment was her, and her beautiful blue hair, and her voice like candy, and love that felt like nothing else in the world. He only pressed his face into her clothes, refusing to pull away again lest this be another dream and he wake up to the rocking of his ship on the ocean.
“Not come back?” He repeated against her skin, smirking at the ridiculousness of the statement. “And what, leave you?” He chuckled again, closing his eyes at the calm he felt wash over his body just from her presence.
“Emily you’re the greatest thing to ever happen to me. I’d be an idiot to leave and never come back.” He assured quietly, absently glancing down as he readjusted to come to a sudden halt.
“...Where are your shoes?” He spoke, pulling away to look down at her naked feet, shockingly red in defense of the snow surrounding them. In one swift motion, Flak lowered his hands from gripping the back of her shirt to instead pressing against the back of her thighs, knocking her off balance enough to capture hold of her weight, holding her under the thighs against his waist, feet now off the ground. He looked back up to her eyes(gorgeous, sparkling with tears and crinkled at the edges) and furrowed his brows.
“Did you run here without your shoes on? You could lose your toes like that-- are you okay, can you feel your feet?”

demetersblizzard:
Jamie simply glared at him for a moment before he continued. “Huh. Guess that’s fair, since you startled me too.” He offered. They both hadn’t really seen this coming.
“Yeah, sure…” He grumbled, even though the argumentative side of him wanted to make a snide remark and just leave, he knew that there were things they could probably learn from each other; or, at the very least, to dim both of their curiosities and possible fears, if nothing else. And getting out of this half-frozen weather sounded nice at the moment. “Jamie.” He simply grunted.
Flak hadn’t stowed away the gangway yet, so instead he just motioned for Jamie to follow him up it, across the deck and into his cabin. Inside had cabinets lining the walls and two couches in the center, positioned around a simple wooden table.
Flak dropped onto one, thankful he was able to hide away any of his pirating paraphernalia. He clapped his hands together and supported his chin with his thumbs, staring down at the floor boards.
He smiled weakly at the man, expression feeling fake on his face. “Hello Jamie. Firstly, I should apologize for what I said... It’s a secret what I really am and I’d... like to keep it that way.” He explained quietly.
“And no, my Goddess is not here, nor did she make me here. She resides in her pond still, elsewhere... She is still protected by my two brothers of course. I’d never leave her alone.” He sighed softly. “I live here now, disguised as a dwarf.”
He looked up into Jamie’s eyes. “Might I ask why you are here, or why you reacted so harshly to me? Where is your mother Goddess? Are... are you hiding from something?”

“Ain’t a threat if ya just answered my question.” He said, and then sighed, obviously not feeling threatened despite the tone of the sprite’s voice. “Really, I don’t care who you serve or who ya don’t serve, if you decided to abandon your goddess or whatever else- just like I would any human or other creature.” He huffed. “And no, I just wanted to know why you’re here. Who you are, and why you’re here, is all I’m askin! It ain’t every day ya see a sprite walkin’ round society.” He frowned. Goddess, talking to this guy was like pulling teeth. Jamie glanced at his hands and then just tilted his head. “I ain’t afraid of your magic, got no reason to. And huh. That so? So you were born here?” He asked, staring. He frowned, actually vaguely stung by the comment deep down, but there wasn’t time for that. His gaze hardened. “Listen. Ya just freaked me out, okay? I came off harsh, but it was with reasons.” He answered, hoping this guy would just chill out a little bit. And that was something else from coming from him. The only reason he wasn’t getting more angry himself was because he realized everything this sprite was doing and saying was out of fear.
“I ain’t gonna tell your little secret to no one- I never was, I never cared that much. Your reaction was funny, but no. I really just wanted to know who you were and why you were here.” He grumbled. “I grew up with harvest sprites all around me, so it almost felt…like an attack, I guess, cause I ain’t ever seen you or sensed your aura.” He added. “They were always harpin’ on me about somethin’, so your presence freaked me out, like a past-come-back-to-haunt-me sort of thing.” He huffed. “So hold your horses. I ain’t gonna spill your dumb secret….long as ya take a chill pill, that is.” He grunted.
That... took a lot of the wind out of Flak’s sails. The more the demigod went on, the more Flak’s tension fell apart into sparse remnants, littered with confusion and shame at his own reaction now. His magic fell back down to a gentle buzz against his skin and he took a step back from the boy.
“O-oh...” He mumbled, reaching up to awkwardly readjust his scarf. Sure, everything he’d done till now what in self-defense; this guy made him feel so cornered in an instant, but... now he felt he might’ve over-reacted a little.
He should fix this.
“No one has ever... realized what i was before. You sort have startled me, but now I feel sorry. Um...” He scratched the back of his head, feeling the wetness clinging to his hair there. Right, it was raining, or snowing now? He hadn’t noticed the change.
“Do you want to get out of the weather on my ship? We can talk more there.” Flak suggested, feeling like he owed it to him. “I’m Flak, by the way.”

Jamie growled, feeling anger rise up in every part of him. He was by no means good when it came to temper, and this stupid sprite was all sorts of pissing him off- as they tended to! But this one was cheeky as hell, that as for sure, and had quite a mouth on him.
Jamie gritted his teeth and just before he exploded into another fit of yelling, it was as if his limbs were deadweight.
“Augh….just like I remember.” He growled, half muttering, and crossed his arms. Although none of the Harvest Sprites he had lived with were this…abrasive usually, they sure did like to tell him what he could and couldn’t do- as if they were surrogate parents by proxy. They sure had some nerve! “Well, you don’t deserve nothin’ from me, either. So I don’t gotta keep my mouth shut about nothin’, so don’t mouth off tellin’ me what to do like your my damn nagging parent.” He said, then blinked, a thought coming to his head. He looked at his nails, as if admiring them, and then smirked slightly.
“You’re right. You don’t gotta answer my rather simple question. But I don’t have to keep my mouth shut, either…..and you sure seemed pretttty defensive about what you are, ‘dwarf’.” He said, folding his arms across his chest, not even bothering to say anything else- surely his point got across.
Flak froze where he stood, hands clenched tightly at his sides, eyes widening. He didn’t turn.
“Are you threatening me?” He finally breathed out, voice low and dark.
He turned back halfway, staring down the Goddess child. “You might be Goddess born, but not by my Goddess.”
“I don’t serve you.” He took a step closer. “I don’t owe you an answer.” He took another step.
“I don’t even serve my own Goddess anymore.” He reached the man, standing face to face. “So tell, who you think you are? Threatening me at my own home? For what, a power trip?”
Flak let his magic spark against his hands, crackling with his anger boiling just below the surface.
“I live here. Seems you’ve strayed a little far from your own pond, huh? Should you be look for your mother?”

The freezing rain had begun turning to sleet, as expected of this time of year- it might turn to snow soon, but either way, it was pelting them now. None of this was an optimal situation that Jamie had found himself in. What the hell was a harvest sprite doing here?!
Jamie flipped out when the man put a hand over his mouth, quickly pulling away. “Don’t shush me, and sure as hell don’t touch me!” He growled, his icy gaze full of fury.
He blinked, shocked that the Harvest Sprite couldn’t tell who he was- or at least, what he was. Jamie had a very…mixed relationship with Harvest Sprites. Although he had grown up with them and had kept him company at times, he had often times felt irritated by the attention and jobs they had received from the Goddess, along with their job to protect him. Technically, they were devoted to him too in some ways, but that had managed to irritate him even more, for some strange reason- In essence, they had essentially been overbearing siblings in a sense. But why should he expect this random Harvest Sprite to know who he was? Still, it didn’t sit right with him- seeing one this far away from the Goddess. What was he even doing here?
“Who am I? What do I want? What are you doin’ here, why are you here? I should be askin’! I ain’t never seen a Harvest Sprite somewhere where there ain’t a pond! I deserve to know, you know!” He growled. “Don’t you know who I am?” He hissed, even if it was clear that he hadn’t- or at least, hadn’t recognized it yet.
Flak’s brows furrowed as it became very clear that this kid wasn’t going to calm down. He grit his teeth instead, feeling his theoretical hackles raise in defense to his tone. There were still no others around, and if this guy was gonna get loud, Flak was going to defend himself.
Flak’s face set into a grim, but flat expression of calm anger. He let his magic prickle the tips of his fingers at the ready, just in case.
“Should I?” He growled out, voice menacing.
There was some punk, approaching him, on his own island, yelling at him! And he--. Flak paused and reached out his magic to sense the man, reeling back in shock.
He groaned. “Ah. A Goddess’ child.” Flak shook his head and turned away from the man, ready to walk past him and back home. “You deserve nothing from me. Keep your mouth shut about me, I’m a dwarf here.”

Flak was at the port, double checking his ship in this weather after such a long voyage and being so quick to move back in with Emily. He had to make sure he had properly battened down the hatches and secured the sails and got the rest of his things, especially before the rain got much worse. Thankfully, everything looked to be ship shape.
Flak was on the dock finally, securing his pack and casting one more look at his ship through the rain. He was satisfied, pulling out his phone to text Emily before he started out. He glanced across the pier to spot someone in a bright yellow raincoat. He ignored them, noting only that he quite liked that coat.
Unfortunately, the figure had his rapt attention again in a matter of seconds.
Flak whipped around to watch the purple-haired person marching towards him, revealing his identity quite loudly. He lurched forward and put a hand over the harsh man’s mouth. “SHhh!” He hissed, looking around in a panic now. The rain was getting louder, and the sounds of the ocean were more welcome than ever at the moment. Thankfully, the rain meant they were the only people on the pier at the moment.
He took his hand back and looked at the man, brow set, feeling so utterly on edge. “Who are you? What do you want?”

Jamie sighed, making his way to the Port. It was rainy and he wore a long yellow rain poncho, making him look particularly small and dainty in this weather, but he honestly could care less.
He looked around. Why did he come here again? Honestly, he had just been planning a quick trip to grab a coffee and come sit at the pier for a break, but the thunderstorm had broke and he was regretting his decision almost immediately. Some break! Not that it mattered, since he had to be out in this weather anyways. It didn’t particularly bother him; in fact, he enjoyed the rain. But being out in public in the rain? Not so much.
His eyes darted around, and he turned around, deciding he wanted to get out of there. Until…something made him turn back around. A familiar presence? Yes. Of something not human? It seemed like it…. His eyes found his way to a slightly shorter man and he narrowed his eyes. No way! A harvest sprite?!
“Hey!” Jamie suddenly yelled, pointing at the man and making his way towards him. “The hell’s a Harvest Sprite doin’ here?!” He said in a loud voice as he stomped over. He honestly couldn’t fathom why one would be here on the Port of Arcadia, but he had questions!

stardewemily:
It had been hard for Emily to carry on as usual, with the man she loved off to tend to a family emergency. She had known he would be gone a while, but the longer he was gone, the more she worried he might decide not to come back. It was something she tried not to think about, but now and again, the thoughts would poke and prod her when she was at home alone.
She had decided to do what any artistic person would do and dove head first into her designs and her sewing machine. She didn’t know if anything she had made was really anything great, but at least it helped take her mind off of her loneliness.
Heading back from her shift at the tailor shop, she had been wondering if she should pop in on Dorothy on her way back when she felt her phone vibrating in her pocket.
Probably Dan again…
The thought at least earned an amused chuckle as she pulled the phone out of her jacket pocket. As soon as she saw the name lighting up the screen, she felt her breath catch in her throat and she stared in disbelief for a split second before fumbling to accept the call.
“Flak…?” her voice wavered as she listened to his voice. She hadn’t heard it in so long and she could feel emotion welling up inside her with just the few words he’d said. Tears sprang to her eyes and she raised a hand to cover her mouth, hoping to keep the sobbing under control. These were tears of relief and she didn’t want him getting the wrong idea. “Are you… Still in the harbour? I can be there in a few minutes, so… Just wait there, okay?”
She took in a steadying breath and let the hand over her mouth finally drop so she could take the heels off of her feet. It’d be easier to run with them off. And if she got to see Flak again, she wanted it to be as soon as possible. Thankfully, all that yoga and dancing had given her strong legs and she was off in a sprint before he could even answer her.
His smile was wavering, chest tight as he heard the emotion in her voice. He didn’t even get to answer before the line went dead. He was going to see her again, she was coming to meet him at the pier.
He...
He wasn’t ready.
Flak’s phone thudded against the floorboard of the ship as he turned and raced into his cabin, completely disregarding the piece of technology, nor the approach of his ship to the islands. Instead, he slammed open his door and rustled through his cabinet drawers, searching furiously and gathering item after item in his arms. Finally, he was... well he wasn’t satisfied, but this was all he had, so he exited the ship again just in time to offhandedly toss the rope to the dock and rolling up his sails in a snap with his magic.
He turned and saw a head of blue racing in from the city.
“Emily...” He heard his own whisper, but it didn’t feel like himself. He only stood in awe, until suddenly he raced to the edge of his boat and leaped off the edge.
His feet slammed down on the pier and he straightened up, opening his arms wide to release all of his treasures just in time to capture his greatest treasure in his hold.
“Emily!”
