nier automata expresses its themes through either having characters give long monologues with big smart words or literally having the screen cut to black & presenting the player with a wall of text to read for the next 5 minutes.
drakengard expresses its themes of “violence… le bad?” through being quite possibly the least fun I’ve ever had trying to play a game. the game is shit. it has awful and boring gameplay. everything you do feels like it is coated in a thick layer of mud and wet concrete. the game is not fun to play, and because of that fact, what you do in the game— which is, kill endless droves of people and commit violence— is not fun to do. drakengard’s gameplay feels horrible and awful, and because that gameplay consists almost entirely of committing violence— it makes the act of committing violence feel horrible and awful.
also one of these games has its female characters wearing as much clothing as the male characters do and the other will give you an achievement if you stare up a woman’s skirt long enough
drakengard (2004) is thematically better than nier automata
