This man… THIS man… he’s gone way past what he was meant to be in the movie. In my imagination, he has blossomed into a character who breathed life into three novels and still lives in my head.

One villain that I can say I didn’t find very sexy —Joss Merlin, but it was fine acting.

And yet among all that villainy, he was still able to be a family man, devoted husband, and a man removed from the trappings of stardom.

Dr Erik Kiviat—I almost forgot that I did a fan fiction story about him too where he seduced a student, took her on an archeological dig, then left her to die once she got him the artifact he was searching for. 😂 I love my McGoohan villains, but unlike the real McGoohan characters, mine always have a little spice thrown in. 😉

John Kingsley—complicated, clever, cynical, also very sexy (but not quite as sexy as the last two). Unobtainable…

Similarly, we have the horrible and horribly sexy, Roger Devereux. Oh, those eyes.

A world away from the heroic John Drake or Number 6, this devilish guy was still irresistibly sexy. That attitude of he can get anything he wants coupled with those eyes, that mouth, the cat-like movements - whew, kinda gets to a person. But, boy was he evil!!

Shameless plug time. I have several novels spawned by McGoohan characters. The Twisting Time trilogy was dreamed up after watching Ice Station Zebra and imagining a love story for David Jones after the ISZ situation ended.

Machine Gun Eyes is imagining a non-murderous and devilishly sexy Nelson Brenner going up against a modern day Dr Syn in a love triangle.

Loyalty and Love is John Drake in love. The novella “Cryptographer’s Romance (which originally had a sad ending but they made me change it to a happy one), is a fun one — John Drake dealing with an aggressive young crush.

Of course, I had a fan fiction labor of love that followed John Drake from a love affair into The Village as Number 6 which still exists somewhere out there in Archive of Our Own I think, and a story about the love of John Kingsley (Kings and Desperate Men) — not the best movie, but a wonderfully complex character — also fanfiction, but I’m hoping to turn that one into a novel some day.
