How did sam esmail so expertly weave the signs of csa throughout this series in the majority of the flashbacks without most people really thinking twice for at least half the show? It’s so amazingly done and also results in the show being improved during a rewatch because the lines Edward say have this extra, horrid weight to them. Moments that seemed to be so sweet and affectionate suddenly morph into sickening signals that we should have seen beforehand - and we feel like we failed, that we missed what was so obvious. And that’s exactly what we’re meant to think, because we’re part of the system, silent witnesses borne of his trauma, we are part of him and he is filled with self loathing for not being able to save the younger version of himself and this show is insane and sublime and I adore it
