Maybe it's because I'm a fandom aunt and I've been around for a sec so I remember the days of 'make it up yourself or it doesn't exist,' but I don't understand the """"validity"""" and value of a ship being intrinsically tied to how canon it is or feasible it could be. Half of fandom and shipping is imagining what could be, not always taking what is like it's set in stone.

"Why do you ship that, they don't even interact that much." What if they did?

"They've said they're just friends." What if they weren't? What if they're just not in love yet? Or in denial?

"They hate each other, it would never happen." What if they didn't? What if it grew into something else?

I know we're in a decade of unprecedented representation in comparison to the 2000s and 2010s, but cutting off headcanons and what ifs entirely robs you of so. much. fun. potential.

It's a time honored queer nerd tradition to take straight media and bend it to our will. We used to do it because we'd starve otherwise, yes, but now we get to do it just for kicks. Fun. Whimsy. Because even with more rep to go around you're bound to watch or read something with a shipping possibility that isn't fully realized or doesn't even make sense for the canon. Ship it anyway! It's about what grabs you!

And more to the point, stop talking like there's no reason for anyone to ship it or people aren't "allowed" to ship it because canon didn't say so. That's just more policing and gatekeeping we simply do not need.
