Alan is about to get hit with a fireball and dark gets in the way and is injured. Chosen realizes that they are the one that almost killed Dark and has a crisis about it while Alan is tending to Dark.
Dark is immune to fire, I think, but a punch or something would definitely knock them down HARD. They may be strong, but Chosen is still a lot older and stronger than them!
Tumblr media
It also probably wouldn't actually help in the end-- if anything, it would make Alan actually angry with Chosen!
The good news is it probably wouldn't happen— either because Alan waits to free them until they can talk or because Chosen and Alan simply just avoid fighting in front of Dark.

if chosen was released and either dark heard they would try to kill alan or chosen actually tries to do that though dark probably will attack Chosen to try and defend him... i could see it turning nasty if one of them accidentally went overboard

My protip of the day if you know someone with a dietary restriction. Picking up something that person can't eat and going "Oops!! Haha, sorrrry, guess you can't have this." is, generally, not very funny. "Haha, look away!!" same thing. "Oh who ordered this? I bet it's [person with the dietary restriction against it]" same.
Either, you're mocking someone's moral/spiritual conviction, or you're jokingly threatening their medical safety. Neither of which, in my experience, make for a good joke. With the double-whammy of singling out the person to make fun of them.
"Okay but my specific friend actually loves these jokes."/"That's not true I have a restriction and I think these are funny." That's good, and I'm happy for you, and glad you have this communication about what you find funny with your friends. If you're cool with it then let your friends know.
But I've found that, as someone with a dietary restriction, these jokes are constant and come from all sides, and from people who never seem to want to know whether I find it funny.
So I'd say it's better to err on the side of caution of "maybe mockery should not be the default state with which I approach this person's restriction."

so how does alan react to dark's powers? i think chosen definitely panics because "what if alan punishes them?"
he panics a LOT. the first circumstance he sees that they have powers, he's probably holding them, which makes for a bad scare if they're using their fire! and i definitely agree; chosen is terrified of him hurting dark and gets extremely protective after that, but he's more just scared of getting set on fire than anything, so Dark turns out fine, much to their surprise.
Tumblr media
chosen does their best to teach Dark how to control their fire and how to use it in a defensive manner with what small flames they can manage, but it really just results in Alan being set on fire a lot less! since dark doesn't feel too threatened by anything there's not much reason to use their powers!
They do start burning and destroying things for their own entertainment still but it's in the less devastating form of just setting a browser tab on fire!

I hate how often some (typically abled) people will go “well, if you can’t [get a specific support], then what?” when it comes to disabilities. As if it’s a “gotcha” moment. And then act like you’re exaggerating when you answer that question honestly.
Disabled people often die from a lack of support. A lot of disability aids are not a luxury, but a basic need in order to live.
“Well what happens if—” people die. People hurt themselves. People hurt others. Disabled people don’t magically become abled if our needs aren’t met.
If a bedbound quadriplegic is caught in a housefire, and there’s nobody there to save them, they’ll probably die. They won’t magically become able-bodied out of sheer will.
If a nonspeaking/nonverbal autistic is denied access to alternative methods of communication, they’ll suffer in silence. They won’t spontaneously become capable of speech.
Disabled people are disabled all the time. Our disabilities don’t go away just because they’re inconvenient, or if we’re in danger.

im waging war on mint flavoring being the standard for all dental supplies, to the point where no one ever thinks to ASK whether or not you are okay with mint. i fucking hate mint. its sensory hell for me. we have the technology for toothpaste and floss and mouthwash to be flavored differently or not at all and YET!!!!!!!!!!!!! im sick of this world's pro-mint agenda.

the reason so many characters who "use humor to mask the pain" or "are assholes with hearts that care DEEP down" are mischaracterized in fan content is because fans would like to explore the more vulnerable side implied but not shown all the time in the source, but in doing so forget the outer layer the character actually acts like most of the time, which then echoes as fans begin to immerse themselves in fan content exclusively without going back to the source for a long time. that is to say that you cant separate the outside self a character presents to others from their inner self and insecurities they are and have inside - they may have issues, but theyre still funny and/or an asshole

I've finally figured out an argument that convinces coding tech-bros that AI art is bad.
Got into a discussion today (actually a discussion, we were both very reasonable and calm even through I felt like committing violence) with a tech-bro-coded lady who claimed that people use AI in coding all the time so she didn't see why it mattered if people used AI in art.
Obviously I repressed the surge of violence because that would accomplish nothing. Plus, this lady is very articulate, the type who makes claims and you sit there thinking no that's wrong it must be but she said it so well you're kind of just waffling going but, no, wait-- so I knew I had to get this right if I was gonna come out of this unscathed.
The usual arguments about it being about the soul of it and creation fell flat, in fact she was adamant that anyone who believed that was in fact looking down at coding as an art form as she insisted it is. Which, sure, you can totally express yourself through coding. There's a lot more nuance as to the differences but clearly I was not going to win this one.
The other people I was with (literally 8 people anti-ai against her, but you can't change the mind of someone who doesn't want to listen and she just kept accusing us of devaluing coding as an art) took over for I kid you not 15 minutes while I tried desperately to come up with a clear and articulate way to explain the difference to her. They tried so many reasonable arguments, coding being for a function ("what, art doesn't serve a function?") coding being many discrete building blocks that you put together differently, and the AI simply provides the blocks and you put it together yourself ("isn't that what prompt building is") that it's bad for the environment ("but not if it's used for capitalism, hm?" "Yeah literally that's how capitalism works it doesn't care about the environment" she didn't like that response)
But I finally got it.
And the answer is: It's not about what you do, it's about what you claim to be.
Imagine that someone asks an AI to write a code and, by some miracle, it works perfectly without them having to tweak it---which is great because they couldn't tell you what a single solitary thing in that code means.
Now imagine this person, with their code that they don't know how it works, goes and applies to be a coder somewhere, presenting this AI code as proof that they're qualified.
Should they be hired?
She was horrified, of course. Of course they shouldn't be. They're not qualified. They can't actually code, and even if by some miracle they did have an AI successfully write a flawless code for every issue they came across that wouldn't be their code, you could hire any shmuck on the street to do that, no reason to pay someone like they're creating something.
When actual engineers use AI what they do is get some kind of base, which they then go though and check for problems and then if they find any they fix them, and add on to the base code with their own knowledge instead of just trying different prompt after prompt until they randomly come across one that works.
People who generate code like this don't usually call themselves engineers. They're people who needed a bit of code and didn't have the knowledge to generate it, and so used a resource.
And there you go. There are people who have none of the skills of artists, they don't practice, they don't create for themselves. When they feed the prompt to the AI they then don't just use the resulting image as a reference point for their own personal masterpiece, and if they don't like it they don't have the skills to change it---they simply try another prompt, and do that until they get something they like.
These people are calling themselves artists.
Not only that, these people are bringing the AI generated thing to interviews, and they are getting hired, leaving people who slave over their craft out of the job.
And that is the difference, for the tech bros who think AI art isn't a big deal.

there's an extremely niche plot in romance fiction wherein our invariably heterosexual leads fall in love after a night of passion leads to an unplanned pregnancy and they're now bound together by an impending child. I cast no judgment on anyone who enjoys this, but since I'm an evil gay and this is my personal nightmare scenario I want to see a zany romance novel premised on the opposite resolution: a couple falls in love while on a whirlwind roadtrip to obtain a legal abortion
