You just have to watch the movie as a comedy, it gets a lot of value that way imo.
Also canonically he survives the end lol, there's a sequel that involves him getting out
I’ve avoided watching it forever just because I know the ending and feel like that might ruin it for me, but fuck it, I’m gonna watch “The Wicker Man” (1973)

the "chat is a pronoun" discourse is captivating to me because it goes so far beyond ordinary misinformation
like imagine if suddenly there was a wave of posts saying that Dogs Are Birds, like "omg you guys i just realized dogs are actually birds!!!" and any time anybody said "theyre mammals, not birds" dozens of people would get super defensive about it and make snide condescending posts/comments like "KNOWLEDGE is knowing that dogs arent birds, WISDOM is knowing that taxonomy is fake and all organisms are whatever you want them to be forever, peace and love on planet earth," and they would keep posting about how Dogs Are Totally Birds because "well dogs are majestic and have beautiful voices, like birds" and if you pointed out that those qualities are immeasurable (& have nothing to do with being a bird) and that metric could categorize most animals (& several things that arent animals) as 'birds' they would call you a gatekeeping elitist and say "let people enjoy things" or some thesaurused equivalent, and maybe someone would also say "we're just having a Laff, it's just a fun game dont be so Serious" but they (and a non-insignificant number of other people) otherwise speak as if they believe with conviction that Dogs Really Are Birds, and this is Really Big & Exciting News because Dogs Are The First 4-Legged Bird, and then when people who know biology made posts explaining in-depth what taxonomy is & why dogs arent birds theyd start getting asks like "what about cats, are cats birds??" "are hamsters birds?" "what about sharks??" "i think flies are birds because they have wings." and then imagine this all persisted for more than half a year

no animal was harmed during the making of this video. not one. for the few minutes that we were shooting film, the guns of each hunter fell silent. the industrial bolt throwers observed a moment's peace and the jaws of every predator hung softly open. no fish bit any hook and the bait worms held off on drowning only until the cameras stopped. the tails of ruminants ceased to flick just as their attendant flies, in unison, landed on their flanks to catch their tiny breaths. a spider instantly stopped winding silk around a wasp, patiently waiting for the caesura to end. a young veterinarian paused with the syringe in their hand. somewhere, a colicky baby stopped biting its mother's nipple and nursed happily for the very first time. we're sorry. we're sorry it couldn't have been longer. we didn't know this would happen.

So for members of bdsm Dungeons, it's a rule that you don't approach other members if you see them on public for privacy reasons. They might not want people knowing they're a freak.
That said, it's normal to make friends in that space who you hang out with, outside of kink stuff. When that happens and people asked where I met my friend, my go-to line was "Spin-class," which is a very funny joke if you know me even a little. Very not my scene.
Well, funnily enough, while I was working at a homeless shelter, we had a very similar rule because of the homeless stigma. If a guest from the Shelter sees you outside of work, you don't acknowledge or approach them. They can approach you, but you don't tell whoever you're with where you know them. The guest gets to decide if they want to share that info.
Smash cut to me being out with a friend I met at the dungeon a very long time ago. I bump into a guest from the shelter who approaches me to chat. My friend asks how I know the guest, and without thinking, I blurt out "spin class" before remembering that's my go to lie for how I ment dungeon friends. These two proceed to have a conversation, neither fully understood.
Friend: ooohhhh okay i get it. Spin class! Me too. Stopped taking that class a while ago tho.
Guest. Oh for real? That's sick man, good for you! You got a good set up now?
Friend: The best!! I've taken up wood working so my furniture is all custom. Got plenty of space to do "spin" at home. It's coming together.
Guest: Hell yeah brother!!!
Friend: was really good to have my own space during the rona, but man it's lonely! I kinda miss the group dynamics.
Guest: Yeah, i heard that from my homie when he got out of "Spin class!" But it's for the best.
Friend: it can be, but its not for everybody. Can be safer to Spin in a group.
Guest: i know that. Lost a few homie to "spinning" alone. At least at the "class" you got other eyes on you.
Friend: I'm sorry to hear that! You know some elements of "Spinning" are risky but you never think anyone would get hurt. So, my buddy here still a real hard ass for safety?
Guest: oh man you dont even know. They revamped our whole fire escape plan.
Friend: Oh shit! They did that back when i was in Spin class too!
Guest: still improving the system i guess.
Friend: they still keep a bunch of robes outside in a shed so people who get out can cover up?
Guest: Yes!!!
Friend: Did you know it's their fault we have a 30 second rule!
Guest: Damn really!?! Makes sense tho, if there's a fire you gotta get out fast!
Friend: Yeah, I Never gave it much thought before they brought it up, but yeah the last thing you want is a fire when you're all tired up!
Guest: Yeah, that's true. I didn't know they came up with the rule, tho. I do like having the space between the beds clear...
Friend: Yeah it's so annoying when people block the path with their shit.
Guest: Yeah there's not enough space between beds for people to be hording shit.
Friend: Yeah! I loved that they always got people to keep their area clear.
Guest: not gonna lie i hate being told to clean up but it is better that way.
Friend: Yeah... haha.
Guest: well it was nice chatting with you brother.
Friend: you too, man! See ya around!
Guest: see ya!

Perhaps police departments should be mostly staffed by part-timers. This way everyone also has a different normal job and thus are part of the community. In this way, the police are less likely to develop their own unique values different from the community. And thus, the state enforcing unpopular laws becomes more difficult (moreover since everyone has a second job, they can more easily just quit if they don't like what they are ordered to do). And with all the people it is harder to develop a culture of corruption. Perhaps, it could be a two weeks out of the year thing, if that works nicer with people's schedule. We want as many people to be policemen as possible (in fact, for police jobs that don't require physical stress, we should abolish any health requirements). Maybe, police work should be part of the gig economy. We need more good paying gig economy style jobs. Imagine the delight in giving the person who arrested you a low rating on the app afterwards.

I mean I just think, sorry, but the whole "porn (I guess straight porn) causes men to view women as objects" discourse is a part of the larger "fiction media inculcates beliefs into people in a really direct, naive way", which like... maybe if you are stupid? Like maybe if you are actually dumb. But I don't know how to express that if you have actual deeply-felt principles, and contemplate your actions in light of these principles honestly, uh. This just does not happen?
