In 2000, in a millennium issue, India Today named her among "100 People Who Shaped India", noting: "Durga Khote marks the pioneering phase for women in Indian Cinema" as she was one of the first women from respectable families to enter the film industry, thus breaking a social taboo.

She also ranks among the top ten actresses in mother roles in Hindi cinema,most notable among them were as Jodhabai in K. Asif's Mughal-e-Azam (1960); as Kaikeyi in Vijay Bhatt's classic Bharat Milap (1942); her other memorable roles as mother were in Charnon Ki Dasi (1941); Mirza Ghalib; Bobby (1973) and Bidaai (1974). She has received the highest award in Indian cinema, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award (1983), for lifetime contribution to Indian cinema.

SAVITRI KHANOLKAR - The lady who designed “PARAM VIR CHAKRA”

Savitri Khanolkar, a Swiss national whose real name was ‘Eve Yvonne Maday de Maros’, married to an Indian Army officer, ‘Vikram Ramji Khanolkar’.

In 1929, she met Vikram Khanolkar, a young Indian Army cadet undergoing training at Sandhurst, who had come to Switzerland for a break.

She was still a teenager then; however, both fell in love although Vikram was much older than her. She came to India in 1932 and married Vikram in Lucknow.

After marriage, she changed her name to ‘Savitri Bai’.

In spite of her European background, she quickly adapted to Indian culture and traditions. She became a vegetarian, learnt to speak fluent Marathi, Hindi and Sanskrit. And also learnt Indian music, dance and painting. She called herself an European with an Indian soul, and never liked being called a foreigner.

She had a deep interest in Puranas, which she read extensively, and also studied India's ancient history and its legends. It was due to this that ‘Major General Hira Lal Atal’, the first Indian Adjutant General of independent India, asked her help in designing the Param Vir Chakra. Drawing on her extensive knowledge of the Puranas, Savitri Bai thought of Rishi Dadhichi, who had given up his own body for Indra to make the deadly Vajra, or thunderbolt. She came up with the design of a double Vajra.

The Param Vir Chakra is cast in bronze. In the centre, on a raised circle, is the Ashok stambh, surrounded by four replicas of Indra's Vajra and flanked by swords.

Incidentally, the first recipient of the PVC, Major Somnath Sharma, was the brother-in-law of Savitri Bai's elder daughter Kumudini, who died while fighting at the Battle of Badgam during the 1948 war with Pakistan.

After her husband passed away in 1952, Savitri Bai sought refuge in spirituality and spent her later years with the Ramakrishna Math. She also wrote a book on the Saints of Maharashtra. She passed away on 26 November 1990 at the age of 77 after leading a truly remarkable life. A Swiss national of mixed Hungarian-Russian descent, married to an Indian Army officer had designed the ‘Param Vir Chakra,’ the highest military award in India!

With the PVC, Savitri Khanolkar also designed the Mahavir Chakra, the Vir Chakra and the Ashok Chakra, the highest peacetime gallantry award. In India's official order of precedence, the PVC is second only to the Bharat Ratna.

She deserves great respect because of her sincere respect towards India's culture, traditions, languages, literature and her great contributions to this land.

Shri. Rajiv Gandhi (Aug. 20th, 1944 - May 21st, 1991)

Remembering our Former PM & Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi ji, for his dynamic leadership & invaluable contribution towards the technological revolution in India.

Unlike his younger brother Sanjay Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, a pilot, is said to have never shown any interest in politics. His passion was flying.

Rajiv Gandhi remains India's youngest Prime Minister to date. He took charge in 1984 after his mother, then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her bodyguards. At that time, he was 40. August 20, 2021, marks Rajiv Gandhi's 77th birth anniversary. Unlike his younger brother Sanjay Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, a pilot, stayed largely away from politics.

Education

Rajiv Gandhi studied at Welham Boys' Preparatory School in Dehradun before moving to the residential Doon School. He was later joined by his brother, Sanjay Gandhi, there. After finishing school, Rajiv Gandhi went to Trinity College, Cambridge. Soon after, though, he shifted to the Imperial College (London), but could not complete the course. Upon returning to India, Rajiv Gandhi obtained a commercial pilot's licence from the Delhi Flying Club and became a pilot with Indian Airlines. 

Story behind his name

Rajiv Gandhi's name pays homage to his maternal grandmother Kamala Nehru, the wife of India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. The word "Kamala" means Goddess Laxmi. While the word Rajiv means Kamal (lotus), the flower used to worship the deity.

First election

Before his brother's death in 1980 forced Rajiv Gandhi to join politics, he had been a commercial pilot with the Indian Airlines for 10 years. Following Sanjay Gandhi's death, Rajiv Gandhi contested and won his first election from Amethi, a seat his brother represented in Parliament. Rajiv Gandhi's son and former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, too, successfully contested from the same constituency thrice before losing to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s Smriti Irani in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Rise to power

Rajiv Gandhi became not just the Prime Minister but also the president of the Congress party following Indira Gandhi's assassination in 1984. The same year, under Rajiv Gandhi's leadership, Congress won a thumping majority of 414 seats in the Lok Sabha elections which remains a record for the highest number of seats ever won by a single party. 

Assassination

In May, 1991, Rajiv Gandhi was campaigning for the general elections. During a rally in  Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, he was assassinated by a Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) suicide bomber.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee (Hindustani pronunciation; 25 December 1924 – 16 August 2018) was an Indian statesman who served three terms as the prime minister of India, first for a term of 13 days in 1996, then for a period of 13 months from 1998 to 1999, followed by a full term from 1999 to 2004.

Vajpayee was one of the co-founders and a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He was a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, a Hindu nationalist volunteer organisation.

He was the first Indian prime minister not of the Indian National Congress to serve a full term in office. He was also noted as a poet and a writer.

Importance of Rudraksh (रुद्राक्षों का महत्व)

माना जाता है कि एक बार पृथ्वी पर त्रिपुर नामक एक भयंकर दैत्य उत्पन्न हुआ था। वह बहुत बलशाली और पराक्रमी था। देवताओंके लिये उसे पराजित करना असंभव था; तब ब्रह्मा, विष्णु और इन्द्र आदि देवता भगवान शिव की शरण में गए और उनसे रक्षा की प्रार्थना लगने लगे।

It is believed that once a fierce demon named Tripura was born on the earth. He was very strong and mighty. It was impossible for the gods to defeat him. Then Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Indra, etc went to the shelter of Lord Shiva and prayed for protection from him.

भगवान शिव के पास ‘अघोर’ नाम का एक दिव्य अस्त्र था। वह अस्त्र बहुत विशाल और तेजयुक्त था। उसे सम्पूर्ण देवताओं की आकृति माना जाता है। त्रिपुर का वध करने के उद्देश्य से शिव ने नेत्र बंद करके अघोर अस्त्र का चिंतन किया। अधिक समय तक नेत्र बंद रहने के कारण उनके नेत्रों से जल की कुछ बूंदें निकलकर भूमि पर गिर गईं। उन्हीं बूंदों से महान रुद्राक्ष के वृक्ष उत्पन्न हुए। फिर भगवान शिव की आज्ञा से उन वृक्षों पर जो फल लगे उनकी गुठलियों को रुद्राक्ष कहा गया। वैसे भी देखा जाये तो ‘रुद्र’ का अर्थ शिव और ‘अक्ष’ का आँख अथवा आत्मा है।

Lord Shiva had a divine weapon named 'Aghor'. That weapon was very large and sharp. He is considered to be the embodiment of all the gods. With the aim of killing Tripura, Shiva closed his eyes and contemplated the Aghor weapon. Due to his eyes being closed for a long time, a few drops of water came out of his eyes and fell on the ground. The great Rudraksha trees were born from those drops. Then on the orders of Lord Shiva, the kernels of the fruits which fell on those trees were called Rudraksh. Anyway, 'Rudra' means Shiva and 'Aksha' means eye or soul.

ये रुद्राक्ष अड़तीस प्रकार के कहे गये हैं। माना जाता है कि जो फल शिव प्रभु ने सुर्य के नेत्रों से उत्त्पन करवाये वे कत्थई रंग के थे और उन के बारह भिन्न-भिन्न प्रकार माने गये हैं। इसी प्रकार चन्द्रमा के नेत्रों से श्वेतवर्ण के सोलह प्रकार के रुद्राक्षों की उत्त्पति हुई तथा कृष्ण वर्ण वाले दस प्रकार के रुद्राक्षों की उत्पत्ति अग्नि के नेत्रों से मानी जाती है। ये ही इनके अड़तीस भेद हैं।

These Rudraksha are said to be of thirty-eight types. It is believed that the fruits that Lord Shiva produced from the eyes of the Sun were of brown color and twelve different types of them are considered. Similarly, sixteen types of Rudrakshas of white color originated from the eyes of the moon and ten types of Rudrakshas of Krishna color are believed to be originated from the eyes of fire. These are their thirty-eight differences.

वैज्ञानिक तौर पर कहें तो रुद्राक्ष एक फल की गुठली (बीज) है । संसार में यही एक ऐसा फल है, जिसको खाया नहीं जाता बल्कि गुद्दे को निकालकर उसके बीज को धारण किया जाता है। यह एक ऐसा बीज (काष्ठ रुपक) है, जो पानी में डूब जाता है । पानी में डूबना यह दर्शाता है कि इसका आपेक्षिक घनत्व अधिक है, क्योंकि इसमें लोहा, जस्ता, निकल,मैंगनीज,एल्यूमिनियम,फास्फोरस, कैल्शियम,कोबाल्ट,पोटैशियम, सोडियम, सिलिका, गंधक आदि तत्व होते हैं । इसी वजह से रुद्राक्ष का मानव शरीर से स्पर्श को महान गुणकारी बतलाया गया है । हमारे देश भारत में इसका उपयोग आध्यात्मिक क्षेत्रमें ज्यादा तौर पर किया जाता है ।

Scientifically speaking, Rudraksha is the kernel (seed) of a fruit. This is the only fruit in the world, which is not eaten, but after taking out the pulp, its seed is worn. It is such a seed (wood form), which drowns in water. Immersion in water indicates that its relative density is high, because it contains elements such as iron, zinc, nickel, manganese, aluminum, phosphorus, calcium, cobalt, potassium, sodium, silica, sulfur etc. For this reason the touch of Rudraksh with the human body has been said to be very beneficial. In our country India, it is used more in the spiritual field.

हमारे देश में व्यावसायिक तौर से रुद्राक्ष प्राय: तीन रंगो में पाया जाता है। लाल, मिश्रित लाल व काला । इसमें धारियांबनी रहती हैं । इन धारियोंको मुख कहा गया है । एक मुखी से लेकर इक्कीस मुखी तक रुद्राक्ष होते हैं । परंतु वर्तमान में चौदहमुखी तक रुद्राक्ष उपलब्ध हैं । रुद्राक्ष के एक ही वृक्ष से कई प्रकार के रुद्राक्ष मिलते हैं । एक मुखी रुद्राक्ष को साक्षात् शिव का स्वरूप कहा गया है । सभी मुख वाले रुद्राक्षों का अपना एक अलग महत्व होता है । हमारे ऋषि-मुनियों के मुताबिक इन रुद्राक्षोंके मुख के अनुसार देवों की महिमा बतलाई गई है । ज्योतिष शास्त्रों के मुताबिक निम्नानुसार मंत्र-जाप करने से कष्ट निवारण का महत्व दिखलाया गया है।

Commercially in our country, Rudraksha is often found in three colors. Red, mixed red and black. It has stripes. These stripes are called faces. There are Rudraksha from one face to twenty one face. But at present up to fourteen Mukhi Rudraksha are available. There are many types of Rudraksha available from the same Rudraksh tree. One Mukhi Rudraksha is said to be the form of Lord Shiva. Each face Rudraksha has its own significance. According to our sages and sages, according to the faces of these Rudrakshas, the glory of the gods has been told. According to astrology, the importance of trouble prevention has been shown by chanting the following mantras.

देशभक्ति मतलब सिर्फ भारतीय ध्वज को लहराना नही है बल्कि अपने देश को मजबूत और सशक्त बनाने में सहायता करना भी है।

१५ अगस्त तो जश्न ए आज़ादी है, हर तरफ मुबारकबाद की सदाएं गूंज रही हैं।

एक दिन के लिए तो हम सभी भारतीय हैं उसके बाद फिर वही #जातिवाद #धर्म और #पाखण्डबाद का बोलबाला होगा।

Shri. Vilasrao Deshmukh (May 26th, 1945 to Aug. 14th, 2012)

Remembering the Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra and veteran Congress leader Shri Vilasrao Deshmukh Ji on his death anniversary.

A man who started his journey from Sarpanch of a village to 2 times Chief Minister of Maharashtra as well as served as Union Minister of India, a senior Indian National Congress Leader on his 9th Death Anniversary.

Late Shri Vilasrao Deshmukh had a lot of accomplishments during his ten-year tenure, including the forgiveness of farmer loan.

Fondly remembered as ‘Lokneta’, his contribution to public life shall be forever cherished. Under his leadership the state of Maharashtra reached new heights and his leadership became a synonym for development.

Wife of Soldier killed in Pulwama Attack joins Indian Army! #NikitaKoulDhoundiyal

Two years ago she had bowed towards the coffin of her husband Major Vibhuti Shankar Dhoundiyal who got martyred during Pulwama attack and whispered "I love you".

Today she donned the same uniform that her husband sacrificed his life for. Now she became Lieutenant Nikita Kaul Dhoundiyal.

What a befitting tribute!!

On World’s Wrestling Day, this is how Sushil Kumar faced the Camera for the Media .. Face Covered .. Guns .. Protection ..

He is allegedly involved in the murder of 23 Year Old Wrestler ‘Sagar Rana’ at the ‘Chhatrasal Stadium’, along with co-accused ‘Ajay Kumar’.

Sushil and his associates allegedly attacked Rana and his friends at the stadium on May 4, 2021, and brutally assaulted them. Rana died in the hospital because of his injuries.

According to the statement of the Police given to the Court, “Sushil had asked his friend (Prince) to make that video. He and his associates thrashed the victims like animals. He wanted to establish his fear in the Wrestling Community��.

Why, even after getting so much success, a man is so much frustrated to commit a murder of a fellow man?

Let’s just hope the truth comes out , and Justice prevails.

She is Durga for us.

Holding NIV mask to maintain Oxygenation of the patient with one hand and feeding him in between with utmost care.

She is neither his daughter nor daughter in law. Unfortunately, he will never be able to know her name.

They will thank us ... Doctors and God when he will be back home with grace of God.

But we know they are the one we need.

Kudos to all Nursing and support staff for their extra-ordinary works. May you all stay strong.
