【 The Festive Season 】 ● Yesterday Evening ● As I am writing this, I am listening to Aye Ri Sakhi , a composition of Amir Khusrow whose shrine is the first thing that one witnesses after entering the Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah Complex. The 14th Century Sufi musician, poet and scholar was father of Qawwali, which comprises poetry devoted to the God recited in musical form, but later they were modified to give them a romantic touch too. I had planned to witnessed the Qawwali that takes place on each Thursday Evenings at the Dargah, but due to Muharram it was cancelled for the day.  Disappointed? Yes.  But I got to taste this sweet delicacy - Sheera, which is sweet dish made of Rice with lots of Ghee, Spices & Dry Fruits. It's so wonderful that our country witnesses so many festivals on the same/consecutive days. 【 Sunday Story】 ● Old Delhi पुरानी दिल्ली ● 4:30 AM The weather was pleasant, it was drizzling and the cool breeze made it just perfect for a cup of Garam Chai. I wish I could sit there for a while, but my already tired body just wanted a bed and a light blanket at that moment, hence decided to head back home for the much needed sleep. While walking back, I was amazed to see the wonderful Iron pillar structure at the platform. It reminded me of portions of Victoria Terminus Station (now CST), Mumbai.   After all, The Old Delhi Railway Station is as old as the Indian Railways itself. Since it was opened in 1864, the building today is a pleasure to look at, explore and decipher the Rich History that it carries. 【 NOT Abandoned 】 ● Par ... Chalta Hai Majboori Hai ... ● Delhi is the power house when as it's the capital of the country housing the 'People in Power' and other government officials which help run the various ministries and departments. I came across this government residence which is really old, going by the design and structure, this one is anywhere around 40-50 years old. Buildings if not properly maintained are bound to die out, and this one doesn't give a healthy-building-feeling, but as it is said that it's really difficult to get a government residence when there are so many in queue, and the waiting time in the queue is sometimes as long as 3-5 years.  It's probably time that we should do away with the "Chalta Hai" attitude. I am sure all of us would benefit from it and it would help create a better society. 【 The Sunday Story 】 ● The Helping Kid ● Amidst the crowded Old Delhi, I witnessed this young Kid, who after his evening playing hours had come to help his Dad at their Food Stall. While the Father was taking out the the eggs from the crate, the Kid was preparing the Fire on the portable Stove. It's so wonderful to see Kids getting to spend quality time with their parent. On the contrary there are families where young kids are either engrossed in the virtual worlds via digital gadgets or are spending time outside home with their friends. 【 Portrait 】 ● Impression ● It is generally said that First Impression is the Last one ... doesn't hold true, I believe. In a lifetime, one meets so many people; and based on our preconceived notions, we create an image of that person without actually knowing them properly.  Only after one has spent considerable amount of time with her/him, one actually comes to know whether the image that was create holds true or not. So, there are definite positive possibility of one being wrong at the first instance.  This also brings me to the thought that one should not judge others immediately, spend time with them and get to know them well. If we start practicing this, I guess we can create a more acceptable society where peace and harmony prevails.  What do you say ? 【 Lag Ja Gale 】 ● Love for a City ● I feel that cities are like living beings. Just like you and I. And there are some you are fond of, and some that You Love. Is there City or Place that you Love ?  Like people, cities has their own unique stories which give them a character and an identity. It is shaped by kind of people those live there and make it what it is. It comprises of both the aboriginals and the migrants (who later make the new city their home). The migrants bring with them different culture, language, traditions, rituals and food habits to the cities, making the city very rich culturally, and provide the city it's unique character. For the ones new to a city, it takes them a while to know the place, understand it and know it, just like we experience with people. And after a while, we become part of it. The traits of the city, to some extent become part of us...And then the question that would pop up is that who shapes whose characteristics ? 【 In-Sync 】 ● With The Nature ● Its really interesting to see how non-humans (birds, animals etc..) are in sync with the nature and its changing climate. Like Peafowl (a.k.a Indian Peacock) is seen dancing to the cool breeze during monsoons as if welcoming the rains on the mother earth. 【 Chai & Newspaper 】 ● The Sunday Story ● Newspaper for Mind And Chai for rejuvenation of Soul That's his take on Chai & Newspapers. On Sunday's, Pitaji has more time hence, instead of two he reads three newspapers. And if time would permit, probably two rounds of Chai until breakfast is served. His love for newspapers started during his high school days. He would spend a lot of time in school library, it was where it all started.  Even after 40 odd years, newspapers is something he never skips. And when he is traveling, he picks up the city's local newspapers, but makes sure he goes through all of the missed ones, once he is back. This is a habit that am trying to inculcate.  Hope I can continue it for years to come... 【 The Chai Story 】 Recently, My Dadaji  (over 70 now) gave up Chai and consumes a glass of Milk about twice a day. The other day Pitaji called me, the usual calls and asked his pet question “Kya kar raha hai” Chai pee raha tha “Chai mat piya kar, nuksaan karti hai” Par main toh Green Tea pita hoon “ Wo bhi mat piya kar, Doodh Piyo Dhoodh. Dadaji ko dekho, unhone Chai ekdum chhod di hai “ Suggesting a Chai enthusiast to quit chai is like asking a chain-smoker to quit smoking. I love experimenting with Chai, finding different variants etc.. and I always keep my consumption at an optimum level so that it does not affect my health. Also, it’s isn’t an addiction for me. So, at this point I wanted to tell him, Pitaji, wo 70 ke hai, unki umar mein jaake main bhi chhod dunga. Chai pyaar hai mera, ayese kaise chhod du ? 【 Be A Rebel 】 The year was 2006, I was in school reading the Indian Freedom Struggle in my History Books. This was the same year when Rang De Basanti was released and I was in awe of that movie . Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra did an amazing work in adapting the essence of the freedom fighters and to bring about & create characters such as DJ (played by Aamir Khan). The whole experience was just Mind Blowing I was at Jaipur recently, and random trip happened to Nahargarh Fort, situated near Amer. This is the Baaoli (traditional water storage structure) where Aamir, playing DJ, jumped in the water from the the place I stand. If you ever get a chance, you must come and see this one. Disclaimer: I was disappointed by cleanliness of this place. Plastic wrappers, polythene bags, corn peels etc ...
