There was a time when hip-hop was thought to be “dead”. And yes, there was a low point in rap & hip-hop during the earlier 2000’s. But we’re at a time now in which the hip-hop community is establishing a greater identity for the lyrical legends of the 90’s and more talented freshman are coming out of the woodwork like you haven’t seen in YEARS. It gets kind of sickening seeing people say that rap/hip-hop is overrated and that “it all sounds the same”… Etc.
I, personally, believe the types of people that say those things don’t really love music like they think they do. If anything, hip-hop is the MOST INVOLVED genre of music out there. Sampling ALL genres, making jazzy or boom-bappy or alternative beats. Rhyming about every possible subject. It’s the most direct descendent of true poetry I can think of.
Living in a town with limited music stores and limited hip-hop hype has been somewhat stressful, especially considering I’m a white female and don’t generally end up being around people who are into this type of music.
But seeing Jake of hiphopfightsback out here contributing to the hip-hop community has been such a relief. So here’s to you!
