Luke 6:45 (NIV) A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.

in therapy my therapist and i were talking about my own feelings of self worth in relationships. and she asked me to say qualities about myself that someone else would be attracted to, on a romantic and platonic level. so i named some things like compassionate, empathetic, etc. and she said “you named things that you can give someone. ways you can serve, rather than ways that you are” and y'all..my mind was blown that’s gonna stick with me forever like she then proceed to tell me actual innate qualities about myself that she liked and thought anyone else would like as well and i hadn’t even considered those because like she said i was focused on things i could do outwardly to attract and maintain connections rather than who i was as a person..goddamn!!! thats tea!!!

“If love can still wound you, give thanks. Your heart’s not cold. If a child can still delight you, give thanks. You’ve not grown old. If traffic can still vex you, give thanks. You’re not shut in. If injustice can still move you, give thanks. You’re not shut down.”

Alone. That’s how Satan wants us. Alone with our own tangled thoughts. Alone with his whispered lies that start to sound more and more like truths. Separated from the very people who could speak courage into our deep places flirting with discouragement and defeat. Separated from friends who could let us stand on their faith when our own gets a little shaky. The enemy knows if he can isolate us, he can intimidate us. Confuse us. Deceive us. And ultimately, make us believe that the safer paths in life are ones apart from God and our friends who serve God. Sweet friend, if you have felt isolated recently, I want to encourage you to reach out to that friend who leads you back to God time and time again. If you are longing for a friend like that tonight, turn toward Jesus. Ask Him to send a godly friend your way. And know that I am praying for you to find that kind of friendship too.

Sometimes the enemy looks like anxiety. Sometimes the enemy looks like depression. Sometimes the enemy looks like procrastination. Sometimes the enemy looks like complacency. Sometimes the enemy looks like negativity. Sometimes the enemy looks like fun. Sometimes the enemy looks like a good idea. Sometimes the enemy looks like he’s not that bad.
But all the time, God is good. But all the time, God is faithful. But all the time, God is loving. But all the time, God is patient. But all the time, God is kind. But all the time, God is truthful. But all the time, God is welcoming.

Trauma does crazy things to your brain: cognitive gaps, inexplicable phobias, silence and shut down. But the soul is so resilient and capable. It has a way of healing around good people, safe communities, and the chance to be heard. Given the opportunity, we get up again.

It is not God’s will that you lead a life of perpetual anxiety. It is not his will that you face every day with dread and trepidation. He made you for more than a life of breath-stealing angst and mind splitting worry, He has a new chapter for your life. And He is ready to write it.
