Yes Saionji has no EXCUSE for being a bully, but she does have a REASON. Which is the backstory you mentioned. Saionji is not bullying people for the sake of bullying, she's doing it because she feels weak and is lashing out at the people around her to feel strong. It's why she targeted Tsumiki specifically. Tsumiki is anxious and weak willed, she reminds Saionji of all the things she hates about herself. Yes. This is no excuse. But it's absolutely a reason even if the reason is not "good enough" in your eyes. To Saionji this IS a big deal, because she can't even look at her own insecurities and attacking others is the only way to feel like she has control.

And yes like you said Ouma is VERY smart, he leads people through manipulation and pushing in certain ways. Unlike Saionji who targets people for purely emotional reasoning, Ouma's is entirely calculated and has a reason.....

But his actions still read as bullying. He crosses the line constantly with his comments. Its very fair to call him a bully if his reasons might be "better" than Saionji's.

But this reasoning behind Ouma's harsh behavior is EXACTLY why Saionji would end up in his line of fire. Look at v3 chapter 3. In chapter 3 Yumeno is going through emotional turmoil, and it is Ouma who pushes and prods at her (absolutely crossing the line and could be called a bully for sure) in order to get her to face the feelings shes running away from.

This is a FACT. With this in mind I see no reason why this wouldn't exactly apply to Saionji, who is also hiding from her feelings and insecurities. Ouma would call her out. Ouma would be MEAN about it. He would give her a necessary wake up call and a taste of her own medicine.

After going through all answers here's what i think, based on a physical fight;

Nagito:

Advantages: His luck is so damn powerful, i think he might win without trying. (But thats a boring answer so im still gonna write a bunch of details.) He has the height advantage against Kokichi, and both of them are probably smarter than Togami.

Disadvantages: I doubt he knows how to fight AT ALL. He is also ill. And there's a chance he'll just disqualify himself because he's against ultimates.

Togami:

Advantages: He might have learned martial arts. It wouldnt surprise me based on his backstory. If he did, he defeats Kokichi easily. Nagito only has his luck getting in the way. Also Togami's probably healthier in general than the other two. He has the height advantage too.

Disadvantages: Hot take(?) but i dont think he's as smart as the other two. Also the possibility that he doesnt know how to fight.

Kokichi:

Advantages: He's smart, first of all. According to what Maki said in v3, he's also really fast and agile. That might make up for his lack of height. I dont think he is super strong or anything, no way, but he probably got involved with fights before. DICE commits petty crimes so that wouldnt be surprising. There's also two scenes in chapter 4; Kokichi gets punched by Kaito, but he doesnt fell to the ground unlike Shuichi did in chapter 1. And post trial, when he punched Kaito. Well, in Kaito's defense he was sick, but there isnt enough evidence to determine how much Kaito's sickness had an effect on the impact of Kokichi's punch. He still dodged it though so he must have some experience.

Disadvantages: He is underweight, and way shorter than the other two. They would tower over him.

Results: Nagito would win because of his luck. But if he decided to not fight against them because they are ultimates; then its hard to choose. We cant be sure about Togami's fighting abilities, but he looks physically at more advantage. Meanwhile Kokichi's smarter and more agile, but he is physically at disadvantage especially if Togami knows how to fight.

Gonna step my toes in the stupidest discourse waters possible, but personal musings (that I’ve told literally any person who will listen to me);

You’re all going to hear a rant I have about a shallow crossover comparison that’s way too popular. With the caveat that I’m not actually, like, upset with anyone for enjoying it, I just think it’s not as logical as some people make it out to be, and I think it warrants thinking about why it’s so popular despite the incongruity, if you’re into thinking about media and the things it can accidentally imply.

This is probably obvious, but one thing I suddenly feel the need to point out is:

Akane, as a character, having "gut feelings" that are often right sometimes reads to the viewer as just a near-supernatural coincidence, especially since all of the characters consider her stupid and she kind of considers herself stupid, and the language of "That's what my gut is telling me," positions her as the passive party and vague intuition as the active agent, but we're given no actual reason to think she's just supernaturally better at guessing. This isn't a Yasuhiro situation. She is pretty much just figuring stuff out with her mind but unable to articulate how and why she reaches her conclusions. She can't point to her evidence and say how it relates and reasons out; she just observes things and susses out generally what's going on based on her observations. But because she usually either can't explain her reasoning (because she maybe doesn't really know it) or doesn't think to explain her reasoning (like her "A ninja could do it," thing in Case 2), it comes across to everyone as her just going off vibes and lucking out.

I hesitate to stress this idea too much, since Akane is a character who exhibits a variety of intelligence that the game doesn't really value, and I worry that emphasizing "The fact that she guessed this so early means she solved the mystery first (except Nagito)" just means succumbing to the temptation to make her have the kind of intelligence that the game does value instead of meaningfully appreciating the kinds of intelligence she definitely has and exhibits, but like I said, I felt compelled to bring it up.

Ages in Danganronpa are way more complicated than I think people really think about. 2 out of 3 of the main games are like "they're high schoolers, but surprise! Not really! But also still maybe technically!" and the 3rd game is like "they're probably high schoolers, but whether we mean '14-15 year old who just started classes' or '18-19 year old about to graduate' is up to you." No one is a teenager except for the installments/scenes where they are. No one is an adult except for the installments/scenes where they are. If Izuru Kamakura is an entirely new person from the teenager he was made from, does that mean he's technically only a few years old? Depending on how you take the ending of V3, you could say that the casts of the first two main games are decades older than the cast of the third. This contradicts the logical following that they would all be about one year apart from each other in an HPA universe, following high school grade levels. This also contradicts the game where they're all implied to be about the exact same age and grade level. Of course, all of this excludes Yasuhiro, who has canonically been held back several years and is thus older than the rest of his class. But also, if you think about the requirements to be a Hope's Peak student, all it says is that you currently have to be in high school, not in your first year of high school, so theoretically there could be students who were about to graduate but got scouted and did a couple years of high school all over again as adults, so you could have any number of adult high schoolers at Hope's Peak Academy. There's a character in one of the side games who makes a point of refusing to give out her age. So, how old are any of these characters? At this point, it's up to you and your personal interpretation.

This is the kind of complicated age shit I expect from a series with time travel, but to my knowledge, that's one of the few things Danganronpa doesn't include in one form or another. And this is the same franchise that had a magical bunny rabbit AI defeat/kill a giant AI of a fashionista that destroyed the world because she was bored. What a franchise.
