End of Year 1 Summary!
Wah!! Time flies and finally we are done with choreoimprove for the year! 
I have learnt so so much from this class and it changed my perspective on choreographing and improvisation. It feels like it was just yesterday where we had our first class with the post-its and sharing our favourite dance videos.
The past 13 have been nothing but weekly 1ups in our choreographic skills as well as improvisational skills. From mirroring to threading to just pushing a body part, these are ways that have made my improvisation better than it was though there still is much to work on! I have also learnt the importance of having motifs and intentions in a choreography as they are what brings out the choreography and gives it life. I have definitely been pushed out of my comfort zone, having to showcase in front of my peers almost weekly and be confident in what i create, and honestly, i would say that i have grown so much from that process.
Another thing for sure is that repetition is more or less my best friend in improv or choreography as i never notice how simple yet complex it can turn a piece into.
Lastly, our class is a noisy bunch and i just want to say a big thank you to Ms Susan for dealing with our nonsense every week and being so encouraging!

I officially changed my selected item from airpods pro to torchlight because i feel like i had more things to explore. So for the torchlight, i discovered more scientific kind of characteristics? like those that you have to think a lot for...
And i ended u choosing 3 motifs to explore with:
1. magnifying gray area (distance
2. distance
3. flipping switch (not really, but more of pull and push/ forward and back)

Then after deciding the motifs, i moved on to choosing the music by drawing out the graph and then choosing from there. I chose Resolution by Matt Corby instead of Half Light by BANNERS as the song is a lot more wavy and there are a lot ways to use the music which is what i want
And after awhile of exploring with the song, i decided on what i want to focus on

Music Graph Activity
Using the graph to find points of moments

It is pretty straightforward. So for me, i got the words baby, SYF, tiktok and ice maker which is weird but i managed to make a story to help portray my dancfe later on.

The points can be seen as crosses on the graph.
The class was then split into 2 groups and figured out which song each person wanted to do; either the first or second song. I went with the second.

As stated earlier, i had a 5 day MC and i did miss out on a lot hence when i came back to school, i had plenty to catch up. The video above shows m y process of getting everything back together and being able to carry out what i have to explore within a short period of time before showcasing to my classmates.
With the 2 points that i have chosen, i begun exploring and came up with possible movements that can attract attention yet bring out the motifs at the same time.

Music Appreciation Session 2
We were exposed to different kinds of music and then had to guess the type of music it was. Then, we were given graphs to draw on while listening to music.They were 2 different types of music hence, the graphs differed.

This is the graph for the first song. It is my own interpretation of it. Ms Susan went through everyone’s graphs and it was concluded that everyone had either similarities or differences between the graph.

05 MARCH 2020 (MA #3)
Before class, we were tasked to bring in an everyday item that we use all the time and write down it’s characteristics (e.g color, shape, size etc)
For me, i chose my airpods pro because i use it everyday without fail and whenever i get the chance to. So here’s what i came up with:

we had to “sell” our item to our classmates and make them want to buy it, Our class was in chaos because we were all in fits of laughter... but it was fun
Then we had to come up with ways to improvise about our item and not mimic it’s abilities. Choosing 2 points to possibly be motifs and also choosing music for the final solo work

Music Appreciation
Session #1
In music appreciation, we were exposed to the knowledge/fundamentals of music and how it plays an important role in a dancer’s journey.

We were asked how we felt music was incorporated in soundpainting and this was what we discussed:

after the discussion, we came to a conclusion that music can be interpreted differently just like our perspectives on different kinds of dance.
from there, we learnt the fundamentals of dance:

We then learnt about the different types of listeners. I didn’t know that there were so many types of listeners.

I think identify with the “attentive” listener as i’m always thinking about the indirect meaning of the music and mostly try to incorporate feelings into it.
Moving on, we also learnt about the dynamics of music.
