“The size of your forehead, the shape of your nose, the way your body looks, all that pales in comparison to the complexity of your soul, the butterfly effect your smile brings, and the way your presence makes the earth feel a little more like home.”
— Ekta Somera

I find happiness in different places.
It's in between pages. It comes in pots and fertilized soils. It's inside a box of new cereal and the seams of freshly laundered sheets. Happiness is the first drop of rain after a long hot summer day. It's in the cute paws of our kittens. It's the swift movement of cloth when I give my new dress a twirl. It's clicking submit on an overdued essay. It's in the scent of freshly picked flowers. It's in the depths in journal phrases.
I found happiness in other places.
It's in the glimmer of your dark brown eyes. It's in the green dot beside your username. Happiness is in the sound of our footsteps when the streets of Manila are finally quiet. It's in the first sip of shared sweet tea after class. It's the sound of your laughter. It's in the melody of your voice when you say my name. It's in the umbrella you hold to shield me from the sun and the rain. It's in your subtle switching of places so it's you who's walking beside the highway.
I kept happiness in some places.
It's in our favorite table in a cafè. It's in the wooden chairs where we sit down and pray. I kept it in between the menus of our favorite place. It's in a mug of hot chocolate. It's in the pockets of your hoodies. It's in the cup of our unplanned sundaes and in the shared interests for dreams and vast spaces.
I left happiness in your hands.
And you didn't take care of it. Instead, you let it grow cold. You drained its warmth. You forgot to cultivate it with love. You forgot to give it back.
