early screening color script selections - my favorite part of working on this movie was helping establish the colors with these thumbnail paintings before production started. Most are painted over early storyboards, but some I didn't have boards or designs and had to go off vibes alone. Its cool to see how some of these ideas still made it into the final film. A lot of artists down the line definitely pushed and plussed the colors, and I love how it turned out.

A Sword.

Made after Cl. 11821 from the Musée National du Moyen-Âge @museecluny - à sword that is very familiar to me, as it appeared on the poster (and catalogue cover) for their 2011 exhibition "L'épée- Usages, Mythes er Symboles" for which I had the honour to be associated Curator.

Spring steel blade, etched and gold-plated, and steel fittings, gold-plated. Grip is horn.

Making this sword was quite the learning experience, and a near constant challenge for a variety of reasons. The original bears the arms of the Dukes of Milan ; however, some details on the blade are barely identifiable due to corrosion, and I had the hardest time trying to figure them out. Eventually I went for those of Francesco Sforza, with the two-headed Reichadler as adopted by Sigismund in 1455.

The strong spine and yet delicate blade profile was also a thing on its own to manage, and it is during the hot-straightening of it that I severely burned my forearm in August 2024.

I did not follow the exact dimensions of the original, the idea was rather to make a Sister-Sword of it, but I'm not that far off.

Overall length is 1124 mm, with a 964 mm blade that is 42 mm wide. Cross has a 149 mm span. 1247 grams.

Point of balance about 14 cm from the guard, right under the main Sforza 'Biscione'.
